It seems weird that I haven’t yet reviewed Solo, this is because I have always attended events at Solo and not actually had a genuine meal experience, that is until yesterday… The interior of Solo is sophisticated, without being overly fancy — this is a good thing, it has a real feeling of diversity — you get the impression that you could go in and feel comfortable having a meal in jeans and a T-shirt as well as a business suit. There’s a real warmth to the staff, they always engage in a wee bit of banter and are always on hand to help you out with a smile. The menu is diverse, you can have Asian style food, Tapas or classics like a burger. Yesterday I opted for a starter of Salted Chili Chicken and I think I convinced most of my table to join me. The salted chili chicken is truly amazing, it’s gourmet style so get the idea of a takeaway out of your head. The flavours are epic and the the dip on the side compliments the chicken perfectly. For main I went for a steak sandwich, when ordering I was asked how I wanted my steak cooked, even by asking this question it shows the chef has real pride in his food regardless of what it is! The steak came out cooked exactly to my specification, it was accompanied by a a side salad and rustic chips — perfect for what I wanted! Solo is the type of place that you could easily lose track of time in, it’s got that stay bar type feel. If you’re looking for somewhere for a big group then look no further the staff are easily capable of dealing with large groups! Top notch all round!

Last week I tried out a new restaurant which opened up in Belfast city centre in December. Solo Kitchen and Bar is based in Wellington Place at the former Wimpy and Carlton Bar. The restaurant seats 40 in the tapas area and 80 in the casual dining area which a mixture of Asian and European food. On Thursday my mum and I headed into town for a bite to a eat for lunch. The lunch menu is served Monday-Saturday between 12pm-2.30pm and prices start at £4(for the soup of the day with wheaten bread) up to £10(such as the steak sandwich.) I decided to go for my old favourite, salt and chilli chicken, while my mum opted for the seafood linguine. We also choose a side of Cajun spiced fries to share. The salt and chilli chicken costs £5 for the small portion and £8 for the larger potion and comes with naan bread, Asian slaw and chilli and lime aioli. I was extremely impressed by the amount of chicken and the brilliant portion size matched the brilliant taste. The chicken strips were crispy, flavoursome and spicy, without being too dry. It was completely ‘more-ish’ and I would definitely order it again. Equally, my mum raved about her linguine and remarked that the portion size was impressive. The pasta was served with mixed seafood including prawns and mussels(a lot, may I add), garlic, fresh chillies, cherry tomatoes and a white wine cream sauce. It also came with garlic bread. We didn’t have time for dessert, but I would loved to have tried the puddings which include chocolate fudge cake, orange panna cotta and tiramisu. I didn’t know much about Solo so might not have necessarily tried it any time soon, but I’m so glad I’ve found this little gem!

The brand new Solo has hit the ground running. I have been twice since it opened a few weeks ago. One for the Unilocal event, and then the official opening night. It is seriously good tapas food — the salted chilli chicken is incredible. The deserts — not so much. Still decent. The portions are very good, staff are great and it’s a nice location, beside the City Hall. Definitely worth checking out!

I recently chose solo for our department quarterly lunch as it was relatively new and I am always trying to find new places to go. The menu looked great and it was very central so top marks before we started. Trying to organise a department lunch is stressful at best, with preorders and attendees changing faster that Mr Benn. Solo were very understanding and met these changes with enthusiasm and patience. The meal itself was amazing and the service was top class. Couldn’t fault one thing. With 28 people attending I would expect a huge lapse between the first and last order coming ourt, especially with 2 waiting staff. But they delivered the food very efficiently and nobody was left waiting! Well done solo. They even held back meals for the generic late comers and learnt some names! The restaurant has obviously been newly decorated and was a hidden gem in the city. I got told by one of my colleagues that the bathrooms were great and she loved the use of posh face cloths instead of paper towels. The little things count! When I returned from the lunch I had an email thanking me for our custom. Overall a really friendly restaurant with an amazing lunch menu food. Your only problem will be selecting the meal!

Attended an event here and had an amazing evening. The venue itself was great, I had been to this place for lunch when it was Maze. I was impressed then and was impressed last night. I had some tapas. We had some Lamb, Paella & Prawns. The food was good and came really quickly. We also had a trio of deserts. The lime cheese cake was the nicest. We also had some cocktails and I have to say they were gorgeous. The atmosphere for the restaurant is really relaxed. The staff where super helpful and nice. Can’t fault the service at all. Price wise it’s reasonable for tapas so you can choose to spend what you like. There is a full bar also so be sure to indulge. I’ll definitely be back to Solo sometime soon. Check this place out

Pretty cool restaurant! I had the privilege of attending a secret supper event here and was astonished at the fact I was never aware of this place before. I visited a few days later with my fiancé, it was a Saturday night and the place was crazy busy. But this never impacted on the high quality service or the great food solo had to offer. I feel it’s a little bit pricey for the food and drink e. g a fiver for a pint(not in my day) but would definitely call back or recommend to anyone looking a nice meal or a few nice tapas! With drinks of course…

Lovely wee place with a great atmosphere. Had the chance to eat here as part of a Unilocal event and it was delightful. Attentive staff, nice décor, great food. Looking forward to coming back when the restaurant relaunches next week. Great night.

I’d not eaten in Solo(formally maze) before so was eager to try new city centre venture. The staff were very friendly and attentive the entire night. The décor is quite simple with booths for a more private dining experience. There is a more casual seated area at front close to bar if you’re just having tapas style nibbles. We had drinks to start(sangria) which was lovely and sweet. Food followed shortly, lovely marinated lamb, seafood paella and prawn/chorizo on toasted breads in great sauce. All dished were very rich and quite tasty. I would recommend the restaurant to most people as it has a varied menu if not all your party is into Indian or Spanish style dishes. We had a dessert trio, chocolate brownie which was dense and rich. Chocolate moouse with cream and fruit, again rich and not too sweet with cream. Lastly was a delicious cheesecake, really good sharp flavour mixed with crumbly base. The cocktails are generous in size and they don’t seem to skimp on spirits. Lots of cocktails are just sugar and juice. All in all the new venture seems to be getting the service and food right, hope it gets the customers to keep it going.

I visited Solo tonight with the Unilocal Secret Supper — this was my first visit to the restaurant and I was thoroughly impressed. The interior of the restaurant is clean, modern, well laid out, and most importantly, comfortable! We were shown to our table, and given a drink, and after a very short wait, our food was brought out. The first course was a trio of meals: Paella, Chorizo and prawn toast, and beef salad. There was a generous amount of each to allow me to get a real taste of the food, and they were all delicious, particularly the prawn and chorizo! Once we had finished this, the waiter provided us with ‘seconds’ of the Paella, which of course I accepted! Next, was a trio of desserts; we got a lemon cheesecake, a kind of chocolate truffle dessert, and a mini brownie. The brownie and cheesecake were beautiful, hoever the truffle was slightly rich. Still ate it though! ;) On top of this, the service was fantastic, really personable and knowledgeable staff and a real credit to the business. Thanks for a lovely night guys!

Attended a Unilocal event here last night and have to say the food was outstanding! We’re given a sample plate of their tapas… unreal! Plate included lamb, paella and prawns on ciabatta… sounds simple but the flavours were beautiful, well thought out and delicious! Were also given dessert… a little chocolate brownie type, a shot glass with choc, cream, nuts(all the good stuff) and a line cheesecake… this was HEAVENLY!!! Seriously I’d go back just for that! *droooooool!* Had a few cocktails… made to perfection… luscious and pretty to look at too lol!!! The staff were very attentive, friendly and couldn’t do enough for us! The boss lady was so welcoming, spoke to us individually and as a group, getting out feedback and generally being a decent sort! The décor it’s lovely. funky lighting, little booths for smaller groups, modern furnishings and hand towels in the bathrooms… I know that sounds so silly an unimportant. but it def adds a touch of luxury instead of using paper towels(which you can do if you so wish) All in all had a fab experience… and absolutely can’t wait to get back!

Loved the jumbo prawn and pastrami tapa. Tastes married together so well. Another highlight was the June bug cocktail. Soooo addictive and it’s massive. I was talking about how I could bottle it and take it to the gym to try and pass it off as a health drink. Lol. Tastes like a Poly Pineapple ice lolly. Just the right amount of flavour and booze. Staff are lovely. Venue is modern and clean. So handy to city centre and to busses.

Well, well, well haven’t Maze rebranded themselves well and now shine as Solo restaurant! I visited tonight as part of a Unilocal Secret Supper Event and was delighted with the service, wine, cocktails and gorgeous Vegetarian food I received. We were greeted on arrival with a glass of Sangria swimming with fresh, tangy fruit. I dined on a beautiful Vegetarian tapas platter of deep fried mozzarella sticks in sweet chilli sauce, bruschetta, olives, sundried tomatoes, manchego cheese and toasted almonds — pure lush(as per usual all my Carnivore friends were green with envy hahahahaha)! Dessert was a trio of cheesecake, rich chocolate pot and a chocolate torte. Wine wasn’t too bad either, cocktails fabulous, service attentive and staff delightful. Will definitely be returning to Solo soon and am looking forward to my next visit. Plus the décor and atmosphere of this restaurant is modern and luxurious. Would highly recommend Solo as it’s now a sensational spot.

Would have been comical if we hadn’t been so hungry. It wasn’t just that the staff were bad, it seemed as if none of them had ever been in a restaurant before and as a result they weren’t aware of what usually happens in them. Our table was booked and then confirmed by telephone a couple of days beforehand. Still no table available when we arrived so we had to stand by the front door for 40 minutes without being offered as much as a drink. When we sat down, after battling with the staff to get someone to take our order, we waited another half an hour before being told our food order had not been left in the kitchen and our drink order had not been left at the bar. The one younger member of staff who did seem to have insight appeared powerless to do anything about the ineptitude of the older waiting staff. She tried to get the manager to talk to us but they never appeared. We had to leave and get food at a stall in the Christmas market instead. Fawlty Towers fans may enjoy this chance to get a taste of what it would have been like to be served by Manuel and co., everyone else should steer clear.

Went here for first time for dinner. Décor & ambience very nice. Food very nice reasonable price, only downside is a little slow on service especially in between courses.

I went here with a group of friends for tapas & cocktails. We didn’t have dinner thus the low star rating. A brief scan of the menu didn’t inspire. Not quite sure what to make of this place. It was midweek but the restaurant was empty whilst Home across the road was jumping! When I arrived to meet my friends I thought it was closed as there was a heavy curtain over the door and they were seated down near the back(it’s long and narrow and not terribly well lit) A local radio station was blaring out(I hate that) it made conversation difficult. Drinks were ordered and arrived quickly sadly not our tapas platters. Possibly a ploy to encourage you to buy more drink but as we were going on somewhere this wasn’t gonna happen. The restaurant was nicely decorated with booth style seating soft seats and curtains but the lack of customers did nothing for the atmosphere. Staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit but as the place was pretty empty I guess they enjoyed the diversion! The tapas when they were served were varied and delicious and portions were generous but they need to lose that loud radio and work on a bit of ambiance to entice me back anytime soon

Food was delicious and the cocktails were lovely but service I felt was quite poor, waited over 30 minutes for our meal but the wait was worth it! Nice food and nice drinks!

I went to Maze Restaurant with a group of my friends on Saturday night for dinner and a few cocktails. I went for the honey chilli chicken. It was a good sized portion and cooked to perfection. I ordered a cosmopolitan and had instant cocktail envy as my friends strawberry daiquiri looked amazing. And it was so I ordered one for myself. The customer service was first class. There was always a member of staff waiting nearby if we needed them. I showed one of the waiters my Unilocal App and told him we were entitled to 15% discount. I wasn’t sure if this would have been accepted as there was 12 of us but the waiter stated that this would not be a problem and the 15% was taken off our entire food and drink bill. This saved us roughly about £35. After we paid our bill the waiter offered us a complimentary shot of our choice, which of course we accept before heading to a night club in Belfast. Overall we had a great experience at Maze Restaurant. I cannot recommend this place enough.

I tried Maze tonight for the first time. We were early enough for the pre-theatre menu where you can order two courses for £14.50 or three for £18(up until 7pm Monday-Thursday or up until 6:30pm Friday-Saturday). I opted for salt and chilli chicken for starter which is served with naan bread, followed by honey chilli chicken for main, served with fried rice and prawn crackers. Both courses were tasty and very filling — so filling that there was no chance of fitting any dessert in! I also had a strawberry daiquiri which not only looked great but also tasted fantastic! Staff were friendly and even brought us water for the table without us having to ask them which was nice, though service was a little slow when we were in. A nice restaurant with a good range of food, whether you’re into Indian, Italian or more local food!
