I had never spotted this shop before, so I have a funny feeling it has either moved, or it has just opened. Most likely the former. Either way, curiosity got the better of me, and I was in before anyone could say«where’d this shop come from?». Pulse clothing was deathly quiet, and really didn’t have much of a heartbeat about it. Bare walls and concrete floor made for an austere ambiance, mirrored by the one sales assistant who barely dared to look our direction, so enthralled by rearranging the ladies clothes section was she. Not that there were too many clothes to be arranged… a few dresses, crazy t-shirts and the like were hung in front of her, concluding the ladies section. Not really my kind of clothing though — it’s very edgy and a bit creepy. I swear those skulls on the t-shirts were watching my every move… The men’s section is slightly bigger, with a good few jeans, and those scary t-shirts again. There really wasn’t much else to look at, so out we both darted, for fear of those strange garments following suit(should that be ‘following tee /t-shirt’?). Not one of my most favourite shopping experiences.

Now I do tend to buy any ‘brand’ clothing either online or from somewhere like Tk Maxx but I was after a particular Affliction t-shirt that I spied in Macy’s in New York but was too strapped for cash to make the plunge at the time. I popped in and was greeted by quite a stark environment. Very minimalist and vacant, white walls, a few images of hip kids on the walls and a small variety of hip clothing. I ending up finding the t-shirt in a rack full of other Afflication products and was about to get my card out to pay the good gentleman when I discovered the price… £90… for a t shirt which would have not looked too far out of place in Tk Maxx for half a score. The prices are a touch on the ridiculous side. I am aware that the brand was expensive but I’ve looked elsewhere. In the US you could almost afford one of their suede jackets for that price. Anyways, regardless, this is a place for the young fashionistas of Belfast who are willing to drop almost a tonne… on a t-shirt. Have at it…
