The beauty hall is not very friendly and some of the women in there literally scowl at you as you are walking past. Who is going to want to stop and have their makeup done if you can’t even smile at the customer?! It’s so off putting and unprofessional… don’t even get me started on the queue system at Mac when you just want one item! Bought some bedding from upstairs and the cashier didn’t say hello or thankyou just chatted to her mate and gave me no eye contact throughout… do they not get taught any customer service in there? It’s not a store you want to spend any longer in than you have to and this is coming from a shopaholic! The big bosses should really do an undercover shop in here to see what it’s really like. Debenhams Belfast is NOT on par with the mainland UK stores and I can see why it’s half empty even on a Saturday. Lack of manners, respect and nice personalities especially from the younger staff members. Don’t go into retail if you don’t like working with the public it’s that simple.

A confusing store if you’re not used to the layout and multiple entrances and exits. As you can enter and leave the store on both floors its easy to forget where you are and what direction you should be going in. In store things aren’t much better as all concessions merge into one, especially on the make-up and perfume aisles. Just a little word of warning here as well, be prepared to cough and choke on the strong scents, the well groomed sales assistants will try to sell you. The smell not only lingers in the air but also on you and your clothes. The fashion sections are a little better with helpful and pleasant staff. However trying to find a changing room proves somewhat difficult. And then when you do find a room, you also find a queue. If you fancy shopping on a quieter day, try a Monday or Tuesday when less customers are about and the store opens until seven!

I don’t like clothes shopping at the best of times. I remember on two separate trips idling walking around both Macy’s and Bloomingdales in New York, the epi-centre of fashion and being completely bored and knackered. I think you have to have both the bank roll and the inclination to look for the hard bargain — I unfortunately do not fit in either of those categories. Debenhams however served me well last winter after a shift at the paper, wearing my coat. It was an old friend which I still have but my god it had certainly run its course. I popped in here on a freezing January late afternoon and took advantage of their popular blue cross sale, picking up a fantastic Jeff Banks grey coats. Long and similar to something Patrick Bateman might wear it was pure wool and a steal at £65.

This huge department store is located in Castle Court. It consists of Debenhams own brand range as well as a number of high street brands retailing in small sections throughout the shop. This makes it so much easier than having to traipse around all the shops where instead, here you can browse through the fashions all under one roof. The store is set over three floors. On the ground floor you can find make up as well as women’s clothes. On floor two is men’s wear and on the third floor is the home goods section. It’s useful to come here if you’re after the likes of a house warming present or even a wedding gift as they sell lots of lovely household items. Another great time to come if when their sale is on, it’s hard to miss as it’s publicised everywhere! You do get some great bargains though so it’s worth the crowds.

If you ask me, this branch of Debenhams is suffering from a decline into old age, much like the shopping centre it can be found in — Castlecourt. It’s not that there’s anything particular bad about it(although most of the clothes they stock are pretty shocking — Julien McDonald, I’m looking at you!), it’s just that it doesn’t really measure up to the fancier department store in town. To be fair, their stuff for the home is still pretty nice, so it’s still a good place to go to for wedding presents and such. I find the service a bit disappointing too, apart from the staff on the beauty counters, so all in all, I tend not really to go in unless it’s absolutely necessary.

I think everybody has heard of Debenhams at some point in their life. It is one of those stores that is popular purely on the basis of its name. The one in Castlecourt is absolutely massive(spread over 140 different floors… or three… can’t quite remember) and sells absolutely anything. Although I had heard of it, seen the TV adverts and so on, I’d actually never been in it until my girlfriend brought me in to look for a wedding present for her friend getting married. Going in is very daunting for a man as you have to go through the biggest make up area I have ever seen. With women get their face done and perfume being sprayed one has to be prepared to put your head down and concentrate on the escalator. Don’t look left or right otherwise you will get some of Ralph Loren in the eye and let me tell you, that hurts. Though she did apologise and said it had never happened before so I suppose I can forgive her. Once through this we started browsing in the home wares department until we got a piece of crystal that we wanted. All of the floors are choc-full of products and stuff for people to waste slightly more money on than most shops. Although heavily priced and aimed at women I thought the store was quite good I’d come back again for browsing, though it does seem to be more of an expensive version of Dunnes Stores Drapery department.

As other reviewers have said, this is not really my kind of place and all and nor is it the kind of place for any male under the age of 30, or if they are below 30 they’ve been stupid enough to get married and move in with their girlfriend. But that being said this is a pretty good shop. There is basically everything you would expect from a very well stocked and well thought of department store. There are women’s clothes, mens clothes, make up, accessories and all sorts of homewares. The staff are dead on and the place is very well laid out. Its just kinda for old people which is a bad thing, but you can’t go bad if you need to head in here for whatever reason.

My review isn’t actually for Debenhams shop, we all know what they do. But I stumbled across something interesting at the Benefit counter yesterday! A Brow bar! Yes you can go to the lovely benefit girls and get your crows, plucked shaped and waxed! Then have your make up re done by the same lovely girls right after! How great an idea is this! I thought it was great and was absolutely heartbroken I had only that morning attacked my own with the tweezers, i will certainly be coming here in a weeks time! Very cool!

Helpful & friendly staff. A wide range of products — they have everything from eyeliner to toothbrushes. Clothes are good quality. Big bright displays to entice you into the shop & demonstrations on kitchen products are done a lot. They need to stock a bigger range of sizes though!
