I have not tried the buffet here, however their ala carte dishes are good. I have celebrated my birthday here on a few occasions, and never once I was disappointed with the food and service. The service here is decent, the staff are friendly and helpful. Food wise, their raw fishes are fresh and well cut by the chef. They even serve puffer fish sashimi. Though not my cup of tea. Their dining upstairs can be a bit dark, although that didn’t really bother me. Good experience and I look forward to try their buffet.

Umai-Ya is a place you want to go if you are looking for a reasonably cheap place for Japanese buffet. Frankly speaking, the quality was ok, but with the price it’s charging, I wouldn’t mind going there once in awhile. It’s important to make reservation as the place is always crowded. If possible, I would prefers to seat at the tatami area. Although it’s buffet, they do not have buffet line to display the food. Instead, you have to order off the menu and they’ll serve you the food. Because they are serving your order, it would be wiser to order slightly more instead of going bit by bit. That’s because they tend to take a bit of time serve the order. The quality of the food was ok. The sashimi and sushi were not too bad. They have noodles and rice options on the menu too. Apart from the usual free flow green tea, they provide free flow of beer too.

My colleagues and I used to go there for lunch when our office is still back in uptown. Whenever I’m there I always order their Saba Shioyaki(grilled mackerel with salt) to go with a bowl of white rice. Every once in a while we still go back for lunch even after our company shifted out of uptown. There’s one time my mom and sister decided to drive up to Damansara to have dinner with me after work. After a long work day, some comfort food for the tummy is just the best. This time, instead of the usual Saba Shioyaki, we ordered a few different type of sushis, garlic fried rice, agedashi tofu and chawamushi to share. For beverages, my mom and sis had their hot sake while I have the usual hot green tea. Overall their food was quite delicious but their price is a little steep.
