I really like this place. It is one of the quieter restaurants in 1 Utama and I always wondered if it is because it lacks visibility as it is inside Isetan. I really like their curry rice dishes. The karage chicken is really tender and the soft shell crab is amazing. They also serve very nice quality rice. I highly recommend this place for Japanese curry rice lovers. Staff are responsive. You get free refills for the green tea. If you don’t mind that the place is in the middle of a department store, give this place a shot.

Senya Dining is just located inside the Grocery Store — Isetan, in KLCC, just right after the entrance. There is a wide range of selections of ready pre-packed Japanese food that you can choose, such as sushi rolls, appetizers, fresh sashimi, rice and others. Besides that, you can also order the noodles/udons from the menu. Personally, I think it is a good place if you are looking for a quick lunch or dinner to dine in, as you can just buy the pre-packed food and ask for reheat, then you can enjoy your meal. However, it is not a good place for you to sit down and chill, and also not suitable for a group of friends to hang out, as they provide limited tables. It is usually very crowded during the lunch hour that you can barely get a seat. Normally, I will only visit the shop if i have a short lunch break from work. I will get a pre-packed food, reheat and back to office, instead of looking for a seat there, as it is too crowded. I found their food is quite good with affordable price. Not bad.

For no frills, high quality Japanese food, my first choice is always Senya. Nestled cleverly in Isetan supermarket at KLCC this restaurant’s owner chose all the right priorities and ditched the extras that often raise prices and don’t deliver anything worth the money. The quality of the sushi/sashimi and cooked meat options is unparalleled for this price range. It is way better than the sushi you can buy in the main grocery store and miles ahead of places like Zanmai or Sake Sushi. Try the salmon sashimi and you will taste what I mean. The beef don is one of my personal favorites. They use a special type of thinly sliced highly flavorful beef that is simply cooked to perfection along with a few onions and served over perfectly cooked rice and sprinkled with pickled ginger. You order at the counter but there is plenty of space to sit. It’s not a place you would want to spend hours in, but this convenient and cozy setting is a fine location for sitting down for a minute during your busy day to enjoy some mouth watering fresh fish or perfectly cooked Japanese rice.
