Delecate, tasty and amazing! Ended up getting this for dessert for every night of a four day stay in the Roppongi District.

A little difficult to find but thanks to the Unilocalers who posted pictures of the store, we found it! We came on a weekday, around 2ish so it was empty. We browsed the menu and I chose the avocado mascarpone and bf had the caramel. It was so good!!! I wish this was closer to our hotel in shinjuku because we’d be here everyday!!! Definitely a recommended place to those who like shaved ice!!!

trying to find kakigori in the middle of fall/winter is like one of the hardest things ever. Most places do not have it but Yelo does and so happy I found this place on Unilocal. It’s down a little alley way so keep your eyes peeled. its downstairs too when you do find it. cash only but its so delish. We got a strawberry and matcha one and it was so good, we went back twice. The ice is so incredibly soft and the syrup that they use is very nicely blended. The matcha wasn’t extremely sweet either, its actualy bitter if you don’t it with the milk that is in the middle. This is better than korean pat bing soo. If you go to Tokyo, make sure you stop here for a nice treat. they have a lot of fun flavors including alcoholic ones too. I didn’t try the topping but my hubs got the red bean and he enjoyed it. its a small place with bar and about 4 tables but both times we didn’t have to wait. the ice does melt faster than i would like but def a must go.

I went to Yelo last year and it was magical! The line was quite long and it was pretty hot outside but it was sooo worth it. I got the red wine/white peach with granola and mascarpone and it was amazing! I’m really sad I didn’t find time to go this year, but next year I will definitely be coming back!

Long line at 8pm on a Sunday night to get into a 12 – 15 seat max space. Ok, we’ll wait, since the reviews seem to be raving about the shave ice. It’s shave ice, so the line should move fast right, otherwise it’ll melt! But wait, we still have to wait in line to order takeout? Ok, fine. But wait, what do you mean no toppings for takeout orders?! That just about did it for us, not being able add adzuki or mochi to our matcha shave ice! It wasn’t that we had issues with their weird rules, it was the way they were conveyed to us and how rude the staff was. From the waiters to the manager, just awful. One of my very few rude experiences from Japanese people in Japan. Up until last night, almost everyone I’ve met have been the most polite and courteous human beings ever! The shave ice was delicious, full of matcha flavor, but not worth putting up with extremely rude staff.

Anybody who knows me knows I have an unrequited lust for all things sweet and frozen. Hot summer day with the mercury pushing into the 30s so what better tonic than frown goodness? This is a cozy restaurant without too many seats so it may require a small wait to get in, but the wait is definitely worth it. The kakigori at this establishment employ a superfine ice that is so soft and light it’s almost creamy. The toppings are full of flavor and everything comes together in a beautiful symphony of flavor. This has got to be the best way to kill the summer heat in this neighborhood. On a recent visit had the caramel with mascarpone and granola toppings. The granola was somewhat superfluous but it was nonetheless a hit. Highly recommended.

Great place for kakigōri(Japanese shaved ice) in Roppongi. There’s also alcoholic versions. Not in the mood for shaved ice? This place has counter and table seating with a bar and kitchen. The setting is rather small with combined seating for about 16 – 18 people. You can bet there’s going to be a line but the tables turn pretty quickly. The wait is really from the labor intensive kakigōris being made. They’re not made from a giant ball of ice and syrup poured over the top, no, these guys are intense and put the flavors and goodies in layer-by-layer. A little on the pricey side for ice(~¥850−950) but I feel it’s well worth it.

Do it. Do it now. Kakigori is as amazing as it looks and it needs to be in your mouth as soon as possible. Bar Yelo — dessert Kakigori/cocktail bar is awesome and will deliver on the hype that this crazy cool dessert promises. Nestled in the back streets of Roppongi district Bar Yelo is extremely easy to miss if you don’t look carefully for the entrance. The actual place is below street level so look out for the sign on the sidewalk or you’ll walk right past it. We went on a Friday night —(Note: awesomely it stays open past midnight for all you post-dinner desires) and there was actually a bit of an line to get in as a big group of friends has booked a table for 10 ppl — which was kinda ¾ of the seats in the whole place as it’s actually pretty small, max occupancy would only be around 15. The guy running the place told us we’d have to wait till they all had seats which was fine cause we were still kinda full from dinner — we had to wait outside due to the lack of space but as soon as there was room he ran out and came to get us. He gave us menus and suggested we get our order in asap so we could get them in before the big group ordered theirs, so that we wouldn’t have to wait — which was thoughtful. I ordered the amazing looking Tiramisu flavour with Oreo while my husband — quite a fan of offbeat flavours got the green tea flavour with Shiratama(which seemed like little mochi bits). Watching how they were made was super cool — see my mini vidoe clip! End result is a moutainous shaved ice dessert that makes you feel like you’re eating flavoured clouds. So light and awesome you think you could eat two… but just wait, give your stomach a few minutes to adjust and you will realise that no, no you can’t. Deceptively light an fluffy Kakigori we found is actually extremely filling and if you eat too quickly will make you feel quite ill if you’re not prepared. Try not to walk too much for about 15 minutes after or you will be sorry. Other than — amazeballs. Go. Try it — it’s an experience well worth having.

Yet another place to believe the hype for. As I continue to find out during my time here, the best places are usually located away from the main streets — the ones that get the most facetime. You’re on the right path once you’re able to get a good view of Tokyo Tower and run into a 7 – 11. Once you’re at the 7 – 11, take the back door out, and turn to your right. You’ll soon run into a five-story building with Yelo on the basement level(you’ll need to take the stairs down). It’s a dark place, with five seats at the counter and four tables fit for two people. Since it was slightly rainy that day, yelo wasn’t as crowded as it usually is, so I was able to snag my own table. The menu is already on the table, and it’s english-friendly. yelo gets quite creative when it comes to shaved ice. You can choose from avocado marscapone or mango lassi, among other flavors. I went with their recommendation — the tiramisu, which turned out to be quite light with the perfect amount of sweetness. I could’ve easily had three more servings. Yes, yelo is fantastic. If you’re ever in the Roppongi Hills area, this is a must!

I’ll admit it — this was one of the top places I looked forward to visiting while doing my research for Tokyo. I know, I know… they have sushi and steak and noodles and so many other delicious food — and I’m amped up about shaved ice? YES… and they didn’t disappoint. There’s a bit of a wait since the place is tiny– literally there is 6 stools at the bar and maybe 4 more tables of 2. That’s it. Worth the wait. I promise. Not only do they photograph super well — they taste just as good. How good can shaved ice get? Listen, I grew up in Miami, FL having granizado every damn day of my life… I consider myself a shaved ice expert. Those granizados are child’s play compared to yelo. I’d consider this a «high end» shaved ice. Yea, that sounds right. Nice wood tones throughout the restaurant. Beautiful presentation. YES… THISISTHEHIGHENDSHAVEDICEYOUNEVERKNOWYOUWANTED! I got strawberry milk — man. I can’t even explain how good this was. The ice melts in your mouth(duh), but blends together to form a creamy consistency — it tasted just like Haagen Dazs strawberry ice cream — but better — rich, creamy, perfect amount of strawberry. Heavenly. My friend got the avocado. It was actually pretty delicious as well! They have green tea, and cotton candy and tiramasu — about 9 flavors in total! My only regret — not trying them all.

Shave ice dessert shop. This nice cozy shop is located in the Roppongi hill amongst all the Night Workers and the muti_ethnic bouncers. The.shop size is typical Japanese restaurant size, about five tables of four. I had cherry flavored shaved ice. It was delicious. The cherry blossom shaved ice reminds me of cotton candy. The sweetness was subtle, not overly powered like ice cream bit sweet enough to electrify your taste buds. There seems to be condensed milk in the bowl. The texture was silky smooth, melt in your mouth experience. Had shaved ice many times before, but this one definitely stands out as one of my top choices. The reason is because it was very simple, to the point, super delicious and not too heavy on sugar. Great flavor, silky smooth(don’t order the avocado). Green tea was good too. Perfect place after a meal

A shaved ice specialty shop/bar in Roppongi. Price: 800 Yen Kids: Good. Seats: 5 tables and 6 counter seats. Kakigori(shaved ice) is a traditional Japanese treat, especially during the unbearable hot and humid summer days in Japan. What makes this place so neat is that they combined the concept of «bar» with«kakigori shop». I am sure that they are targeting the Roppongi bar hopping crowd, seeing that the place is open«until morning». What time is that anyways? I guess it doesn’t matter. «Frozen H2O» + «Syrup» = ¥800. Hmmmmmm. Makes you wonder. Fabulous business model? It depends on whether or not people are willing to pay that much for shaved ice. My guess is YES. There just isn’t too many other alternatives. Most Kakigori shops close by sunset; just about the time Roppongi bar hoppers are getting out of bed. Kakigori shops are often run by grandpa and grandma selling Kakigori for about 300 Yen. PREMIUMKAKIGORI: Among sweets fans, some premium Kakigori shops gaining popularity. Places like Darumaya(Jyujo Station) or Asami Reizo(Saitama) are very popular and charge about 1000 yen. The key difference between these premium Kakigori shops and Yelo is that Yelo doesn’t seem to use premium ice. At least they don’t market that they do. Premium ice is expensive to source, because they are often frozen naturally using mineral water. They don’t just put tap water in sub-zero freezer and make ice. Ice is made over weeks in natural weather. I have tried these natural ice Kakigori; but to honest, I could not tell the difference between such natural ice and one I had at Yelo.
