Despite the strange name(«coots», really?) this place is quite nice. I wasn’t expecting them to sell boba drinks here. Rather than the usual flavors you would expect from a boba shop like almond milk tea, their flavors are all typically Japanese such as royal milk tea(black tea with milk) and matcha milk tea. I was pleasantly surprised that their boba was soft and very fresh, as it’s difficult to find fresh boba in Japan(let alone any boba).

One of my favorite when I lived in Japan was the green tea shaved ice. I’m back for a short visit after 17yrs in my old stomping ground and found this place. The matcha kakigori was so refreshing with a small dallop of anko and matcha soft serve on top. I love the sweets in Japan as they’ve got just the right sweetness unlike in the states where everything taste like a pound of sugar was used.

Good spot for a coffee date if you’re bored of the usual chain coffee shops. Koots feels more«asian» and has unique items on the menu. You can find many healthy options of Japanese tea or typical Japanese desserts and meals. Personally, I come here whenever I’m craving some healthy pearl/bubble/tapioca tea. I get the plain green tea with some tapioca — a treat without all the sugar!
