The bread here in the basement of Tokyo station is fresh made at the shop and you can watch them cook behind glass as you sit in the relatively large dining area. The bread is good and they have a lot of savory types with bacon and other meats. The bread is lighter and softer than most places which is awesome. The cost per piece is about 400 yen per which checks with the normal tokyo station mark up. My only gripe is the coffee is bad, really bad. I should have went with water or tea bad. If you go here you will enjoy the chow, skip the coffee and grab something else…

Small bakery and coffee shop, for a quick bite on the go in Tokyo station. Found this place on a corner, heading toward the Shinkansen tracks. Decent variety of baked goods, considering it was about 8pm. Didn’t try the coffee because my hands were full. But baked goods(stuffed croissant and seasonal bagel) hit the spot once I got to my train !

If you’re in Tokyo station and can’t find something to eat, especially for breakfast, go downstairs. There are a lot of gift shops on the train station level, but if you go to the basement you’ll find more choices as in bakeries and cafés. Burdigala is a bakery and café that does not have a large selection, hence the name Burdigala EXPRESS. The French inspired shop offers pastries, sandwiches, bread, cookies and cake. There is a seating area but it seems most people get take out as the café is packed at 7:30AM on a weekday. I love the fact that they ask how many«wet» napkins you would like, but bathrooms in general don’t have any paper towels.
