I found several hairs in my food and the gentlemen cooking behind the counter gave me horrible customer service. They also overcharged me drastically

Very good authentic Mexican food at this semi-dingy hole-in-the-wall taqueria. I love non-pretentious old-school places like this, especially when the prices are great like they are here. Awesome salsa bar as well — 4 varieties of fresh homemade salsa, 2 types of deep-fried peppers, radishes, and jalapeños en escabeche.

Decided to try this place after reading some good Unilocal reviews. How disappointing! Watched the«cook» place each styrofoam plate of food in the microwave. Aside from the fact that styrofoam takes forever to decompose(it’s a «going green» nightmare!!), isn’t it also toxic to ones health. Especially microwaved I would assume. When the food came out the beans were all fried and dry along the edges. The flautas were greasy. Only pros were the man at the register was friendly and the food didn’t make us sick afterwards.

Huge potato tacos that are crazy good and only a $ 1! I bring all my friends here when they visit because sometimes you just need a freaking burrito.

Pros– Authentic, tasty Mexican food! This place has a large menu, suitable for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Nachos, tacos, burritos, and enchiladas were all fresh & flavorful. The cook made menu changes to meet our needs. The cashier was nice and service was fast and friendly. A variety of flavorful salsas & fresh limes at the salsa bar. Also, super yummy horchata!!! After a day of hiking, this place hit the spot. Cons– Everything is served on styrofoam which is hella awful for the environment. I tried not to think about all the waste. Brrr. And then there’s the bathroom. Yikes. Not sure how to even describe that experience. Just avoid it at all costs, trust me. The atmosphere of the restaurant was not glamorous, but the art on the walls is cool. So, bathroom situation notwithstanding, the experience was overall positive.

I had high hopes based on the reviews but was completely underwhelmed. We were headed back to PS from Joshua Tree, starving with our toddler in-tow, and meh. Edible, but forgettable. However, the people were very sweet.

This review is based on Carnitas alone, as I have grown up in Los Angeles and frequented many taco stands, trucks, dives, restaurants, etc, in search of the perfect Carnitas. A lesson for you newbs on Carnitas. Originating from Michoacan, this pork is slowly braised in lard which basically makes this a pork confit. I will not argue with anyone, regarding duck fat and it’s perfection and if you are a fancy French person, you know a good duck confit. I personally prefer a good carnitas taco for 2 bucks over a $ 40 plate of fat braised duck. However…I do understand that most fancy people will not step foot inside of a run down-ish divey hole in the wall Mexican joint. Good for you, stick to your fancy shit. Surprisingly, I have found the best carnitas I have ever had in my life, not in the heartbeat of the Barrios of LA, but out in the desert, Yucca Valley. I cannot drive by this place, even when I’m not hungry, I must always stop and get one carnitas taco, just to get some of those crispy fried edges and moist tender inner bits in my mouth. Of course on a homemade tortilla. I believe in science and the perfect family owned recipe. It’s pretty simple and beautiful, if you can just find it… and that part is now done for you. I hope you plan a visit to the desert soon and stop here on your way in! You will stop on your out too: D

Divey yet enticing space. This is where you find good food. I ordered to-go, although there are a few tables. I wanted beer with my tacos or I might have taken a seat. #4 carne asada tacos with rice & beans: Wow, these are some of the best tacos I’ve had. Large, meaty, great tortillas, everything you want in a taco. Beans & rice are standard fare. Cheese enchiladas — solid, maybe a little too much cheese grease. You get two, which makes for a fair amount of food. Bean tostada — also solid. Not large. Three salsas — verde is not picante, as you’d expect; light red is somewhat picante with a light taste; dark red has good ancho flavor and is the most picante. All three are good. No one in line to order when I got there about 5:30 on a Thursday afternoon. Friendly, quick counter service and the food only took about ten minutes to prepare. Recommended.

Um hello, you cheap little taqueria right outside Joshua Tree. Venturing into some unknown territory and few Unilocal reviews, I bit the bullet and I’m sho glad I did. Tacos were about $ 1.65 and they were meaty and delicious. A nice little salsa bar, delicious tortillas and some solid spicy fillings, with a high five to the al pastor and carne asada. A quick hearty snack for 2 for about $ 6? Score. Place is a dive and you’ll see definitely see some locals chowing hard, so eat up!

Came to this place based on the reviews. I was greatly disappointed, unfortunately. I ordered the carne asada burrito and found it to be partially uncooked making the first bite fairly disgusting. My wife ordered the taco salad and found it to be smothered in sour cream. That dominated the taste … Might as well be eating a tub of sour cream. The only redeeming item was the al pastor taco. They were decent. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!
