I hope management sees my review. I went I to this location to find something for my husband and gravitated to the handguns. As a CWP holder I have been considering a new carry weapon. I am looking between a Kimber and the Beretta Storm and I was excited they had both in stock. I thought I might be able to do a side-by-side comparison. I was standing in front of the Kimber case and a gentleman was about 3 feet from me and we both got there about the same time(I was there first). A male worker walked passed me and asked that guy if he needed help. When that gentleman said no, he walked passed me again and went to a man who just came up to the case and was about 8 feet from me in the other direction. He asked him if he needed help and he said no. Then he asked another man and walked passed me a third time. Never did he ask me if I wanted help. I hate to think it is because I am a woman, but I don’t know what else to think. I have purchased two firearms from Gander Mountain in the past(all my myself!). I’m not sure if I will purchase this one from GM. I am seriously disappointed. I feel like I stepped back into the 1950s. Grrrr! ***UPDATE*** MAY12, 2015 I just received two messages from Gander Mountain management and I spoke with Amy L., at the Winston-Salem store. She listened to my experience and apologized for it. She said she was going to review this with the employees and use it as a training opportunity. I can’t ask for anything more than that. I’m impressed they reached out to me because they could have easily brushed this under the carpet, so I am changing the rating from one star to four. Sometimes it’s not about the inital experience but it’s about how it is handled that matters, and let’s face it, I’m a fan of how they responded to this situation!

I am not a huge fan of this store. I stepped in to try to surprise my husband with a new magazine for his gun. I will admit that I do not know the first things about guns, so I had the model of his weapon and went in to look for a magazine. The staff was not at all welcoming or friendly. I never did find anyone to help me, and I left empty handed. I don’t think I will be returning and will go back to the internet to find what I need.

Went to Gander Mountain looking for Outdoor clothing. They offered a good selection of merchandise. The employees were very pleasant but the company appears to have some practices that are not very customer focused. 1) There is one unisex fitting room for this Entire BIG store! From speaking to the sales people, many customers mention this deficiency and 2) They sell coats galore but have little access to mirrors. The response is ‘there is a mirror in the dressing room’…and there is only one! Funny.

I heard the gun superstore advertisement and in a lapse of judgement decided to give them a whirl. I walked into the store and directly made my way back to the gun counter. I was very impressed with the wall to wall inventory of firearms but my impression stopped right there. I knew exactly what rifle I wanted and had the money to buy it. Although the store was not busy. I stood at the counter for at least 20 minutes. One salesman behind the gun counter was locked in a debate with what I assumed was another customer. They discussed the merits of watching paint dry or some equally impressive topic but now I think it could have been his brother because he sure as hell wasnt buying anything. Meanwhile behind the counter. several other sales associates passed me in a continuous loop to, what I can only assume was, a trek to ignore other customers since no one spoke with me at all. All this despite my best come hither look, direct associate eye contact and pointing at the rifle not 5 feet away. I knew I was in the wrong place when an associate walked by and said ‘Hows it going?’ I said ‘I need some help’. I was told ‘He will be with you in a sec.’ Indicating the paint dry guy. I said ‘seriously?’ But just to myself as that associate was moving away at high speed. In frustration I left. go figure. I was mad at myself for giving them the time that I wont get back. I then drove over to Dick’s sporting goods and being greeted by a friendly and courteous sales person… made my purchase. If you decide to buy a gun here at Gander Mtn. stop by the camping supplies first and buy a fricking tent. You are gonna be here awhile.

Hilariously overpriced guns and accessories. They’ve got a super big selection of guns in all categories, but the sticker prices are a good 25−40% higher than any decent independent gun shop around town(and we have plenty!). They’re also insultingly stingy on trade-in offers. Big selection of boots and other gear, but honestly the gun department is so insulting I’d rather spend money elsewhere.

Gander Mountain is a fantastic store for Hunting, Fishing and Outdoor enthusiasts! It’s worth a trip just to look around! Gander mountain sells guns, ammo, hunting, fishing, grilling, cooking, food preparation tools, kayaks, canoes, outdoor footwear, coats, clothing and probably something that I didn’t mention! This particular Gander Mountain is located in the former Circuit City and has been open since Thanksgiving 2012 but only recently held a ‘Grand Opening’. I didn’t attend those festivities it must have been quite the attraction, I know of several people that were mired in the traffic jam. I went in looking for a meat patty press which was a lower price than the on line merchants that I often deal with when purchasing odd items like this. The gun sales area had quite a crowd! They did have a line of ten people and growing at 4:45 on a Tuesday afternoon when another cash register opened up. This was about the only complaint that I have about my experience here. The cashier that rang my order up and mentioned that she just got one for Valentines Day but hadn’t tried it out yet. Yeah, I think if she got a patty press for Valentines Day and was actually happy about it then Gander Mountain made a good hiring decision! There is a nice Gander Mountain in Greensboro but this one brand new still has the shine!
