I enjoy the scene in the downtown area ! I love the rooftop patio for an evening drink or for a bite to eat. The district burger is great and the homemade potato chips are crisp and fresh. The sweet collard greens and the fried chicken are not bad either. The service is always stellar and the place is clean and refreshing. They have decent entertainment too. I am hoping that they can stand the test of time and hang in the Winston-Salem bar scene for years to come.

Ok tap, Lousy service and an overrated atmosphere. Rooftop bar kinda sucks with no taps. Easily avoidable.

1 star for the view 0 stars for everything else. Ordered 2 beers and both came back wrong. Saw table beside us have a food order messed up so we walked out. But hey, that view.

Meh… just meh. The location and building are fun and interesting. We’ve had dinner and drinks before heading to a show at Ziggy’s several times. Lots of outdoor seating and the rooftop bar is a fun place to hang out, weather permitting. The food has been hit-and-miss, even though we tend to give items a second chance. For example, the tuna was delicious the first time, sub-par ever since. A sign of cost– cutting? The chili is usually dependable. With the exception of the male bartender on the second-level, the service is not good and rather rude at times, usually an indication poor training/management. Cleanliness doesn’t seem to be a priority — dirty flatware is common. The bathrooms are usually a mess. Sadly, if the owners(aren’t they on their 2nd or 3rd owner?) don’t start paying attention to details, The District may soon be just a memory.

We’ve had mixed results here but the food was always good. The first time the service was horrendous and the inside, downstairs seating very uncomfortable. Later, however the meals were much better and the service markedly improved. We’ve eaten here a few times and tried any number of items. I’d say it could be a solid 4 star with some work on the service and timing.

I only give it three stars because our waitress on the roof was very out going and the view of the city was nice. The food was not good at all. I would only go again for a glass of wine or drink on the rooftop.

The food we had was pretty good. However, when we went the first time, the owner went around to every table out in the patio and greeted the — every table but ours! Hmmmm… Businesses need to realize they need to be friendly to ALL paying customers. We frequent almost exclusively local-owned restaurants & businesses, are always pleasant and aren’t cheap about. The second time we went was after a concert at Ziggys– it was a mad house in there– not a good atmosphere at all. Very loud, drunken, sloppy, uncontained college mess– maybe the wrong night?

Much room for improvement as the best part is the view from the roof. I’ve come here a few times and heard complaints from most of the people I’ve eaten with so I know it’s not just me, the vegetarian, who is disappointed with the food. We’ve had some strange service as well; one night it seemed like the place was being run by high school students, none of whom cared about actually waiting on us. Another time we were brought the wrong food twice, and I had to wait for my black bean burger long after those who had ordered meat had been served. Here’s hoping it’ll be different if and when we go back.

I’m such a fan of District and their roof top bar!(Dinner is another story.) Every time I go I have a great time! There is literally a bar on the roof top, as well as a good amount of seating for you to sit down and talk with friends. On weekends, there is typically a band playing outside, so it might get a little loud, but it’s bearable. The bartender can make any drinks you want, and he makes them good. I love hanging out on the roof when the weather is nice! Great place to go with friends! :)

This is a mediocre establishment whose supposed rooftop bar is just on the second floor. The music is as terrible as the drinks, and if you’ve convinced yourself that you need to take someone to the bar that you thought this was, you should just do the equivalent in a city with real nightlife and not Winston.

I went there for dinner last weekend with my girlfriend and a couple out of town friends. We sat on the rooftop, which had a beautiful view of downtown Winston. That was nice. Right after they brought out our appetizer, they informed us that the Fire Department was shutting down their food service for the night due to an issue with their hood in the kitchen. We asked if we had to leave, or if we could order drinks, and the waiter said we could stay, but that they wouldn’t be serving anymore food. The waiter was extremely rude… my girlfriend ordered her usual drink(Jack & Lemonade) and the bartender said«We have lemonade, but it’s downstairs. I could get you a Jack & Coke, or Jack & Ginger.» She said«I’d really like a Jack & Lemonade if that’s ok.» The waiter let out a big sigh and said«Well it’s going to be a little while because I have to go downstairs» and walked away without taking my drink order. I said«Excuse me, could I place my drink order?» He shouted from across the roof«I have to go downstairs to get lemonade» and he just walked away without letting me order my drink. When he came back with the drink, we asked for our check. I really had been wanting to try this place for a long time, but I was just so turned off by the rude staff that I don’t know if I’ll be back. What a shame.

Normally I only order the chicken Caesar salad and any respectable establishment can execute that, so I can’t attest much to the food. You come here for the atmosphere and ambiance. Killer rooftop views, live music, and a darn good lemon drop martini keeps me coming back. Drinks are a little pricey considering its right down the street from 4th st bar hop central but good nevertheless. It’s worth the extra for a calmer atmosphere, in my opinion. Servers and bartenders are nice enough as well.

This is a long-overdue update — now on their third executive chef and second owner, this gorgeous facility is let down massively by the food and prices. You know you’re in for a bad night when the server starts by telling you which items from the menu are no longer offered — the list is extensive, and includes quite a few of the dishes we liked most, including the Moravian Chicken Pie. We hear that a new menu is coming soon, which hopefully will be better tailored to the newest chef’s strengths. Fingers crossed.

Ugh. I have been coming here since they first opened, wanting/hoping the service and food to be consisently good. When I noticed the solid B sanitation grade on my last visit, I should have been more worried. My soup came served lukewarm at best. I would have returned it, but it had taken so long to get served and the waitress didn’t check on the table until she brought the bill. I did complain about the soup, and she said, «Let me see what we can do for you.» When she returned, she said, «We’d like to offer you another bowl of soup served hot!» Really? The strangest attempt at service recovery ever from a restaurant I’ve supported many, many times. Between the sanitation grade and the unpredictability of the experience, I can’t give this place a thumbs up.

We sat at the rooftop and it’s definitely a rooftop bar with food. The view is excellent and the drinks are reasonable. We got seated on a Friday night with no problem, but it was a tad windy. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an app as we planned to eat dinner elsewhere and they were just«okay». As an outdoor rooftop bar, it can’t be beat!

Okay, so I have eaten here several times. We recently took our new friend out to dinner here on a Friday night. We waited for a really long time for drinks — just beers! Although they have a good selection of beers on tap but you’re going to wait at least a half an hour to get them especially if the bar is busy. This very small bar serves the entire restaurant and the bar area itself so don’t expect a quick beer, let alone a mixed drink. Additionally, The waitstaff inside this bar area were not very friendly, understandably so since they were doing a lot of work with very little support. I have also had drinks out on the rooftop in the summer, the view is great, but the same minimal service still applies. I ordered the chicken ravioli. No complaints about the dish, the food was pretty good, however I could tell it was laden with a lot of fat and probably pretty processed. Our server who waited on us for dinner was very nice and did his best to accommodate our group considering the slow service trickling down from the bar. Overall everyone was satisfied with their meal and there were no mistakes with our orders. When the district first opened, the service and food was much better. Recently, I feel that the service and the food quality has slipped a notch. I would only come back if a friend really insisted upon it. I don’t have seriously strong objections but I don’t love it either. The only saving grace is the rooftop bar, I think the rooftop bar is great for nice weather when you want to sit outside on the deck and look over Winston, but the food is just a touch above chili’s quality in my opinion.

I was a little thrown off by this place! When I hear bar and grille in the restaurant name I think something a bit more low key. The dining room was beautiful, so I could tell right away they were going for a less casual experience. Maybe because I had a different mind set going in I didn’t expect to see $ 25 entrees. None of the two better priced sandwich options appealed to me so I went with one of the pricier entrees. I got the short ribs with polenta and they were really good. However, it was one of the few things on the menu that really appealed to me. The bf enjoyed his dip sandwich. To me the crab dip had too much mayonnaise in it. The brownie sundae was good, but the brownie wasn’t warm. I will definitely come back, probably once the weather gets nicer out so I can enjoy the rooftop deck. Now that I know what the menu looks like I will also know what to expect when walking in. Unlike some of the other Unilocaler’s experiences our waiter was very friendly and all the food came out in a timely fashion.

Maybe I came here on a bad night, but I was so excited to come here. I have been wanting to come here for almost a year now and finally got the chance to. We came here on a Friday night this week and made a reservation ahead of time. We told them we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Everything started going downhill from this point on. It took forever for the waitress to come over and ask us what we wanted to drink. The waitress was in a hurry and she looked impatient. When it finally came time for us to order, half of the things they listed on their menu were not available. SERIOUSLY? Why would you put it on your menu if it’s not available? We were told that they are in the process of changing menu, great but you cannot keep doing business with half of your items available. In the restaurant business, «in the process of changing menu» cannot be an excuse. Both of us in my party asked for entrees that were not available. We were reduced to very little options, so the waitress looked impatient and walked away. Finally our food arrived, neither my salad nor the shrimp po boy sandwich were appetizing. The waitress even recommended that I order the shrimp po boy sandwich and it was just a bunch of fried shrimps, then romaine lettuce, tomato and a couple slices of red onion. On the very bottom of the dish were 2 pieces of bread. Am I supposed to make a sandwich out of this? Things were scattered all over the plate. This was NOT worth $ 9. The salad, the mixed greens tasted dry and it was not good. I didn’t even finish the salad. Well, I didn’t finish my shrimp po boy either. The other person in my party ordered the brown sugar ribs. Her ribs had a lot of fat in it, they were very sweet and the meat keeps getting stuck in between her teeth. What a disaster. Finally when it came time for us to pay. I used a visa giftcard, the manager walked back over about 5 minutes later and handed me his cell phone. I was surprised;. I was asked to talk to the lady on the phone with visa. HELLO, this is VERY unprofessional, you could have asked if I have another payment method? If not, at least give me an introduction before stuffing the phone in my face. And I cannot believe this is the manager doing this. During our whole 1.5 hour at the restaurant, there were 4 incidents of employees dropping plates on the floor. Wow? I am speechless. Maybe a different menu is not what you need, better staff both(waiters and chefs). The only reason I did not give this place 1 star is because there is ample parking(3 different lots), the interior of the restaurant is pretty cute and their rooftop is pretty cool. However, the rooftop is not open during cold seasons. None the less, a restaurant is a restaurant, bad food and bad service just kills everything. Maybe another reviewer below me is correct, only come here for drinks at the rooftop don’t come here to eat.

We ate at the District last night in the bar area with a large group. The service and food were great. The beer was a great deal at 2.50 for drafts. We had several appetizers including the fried pickles, nachos, and fried green tomatoes. The fried pickles were sweet which was different and I like that. One of our favorites was the nachos it had chicken and corn on that and it was very delicious. I tried the burger with avocado and cheese cheese which was very good. They use a pretzel bun which was needed because the hamburger was very large. My husband had the dip sandwich and he enjoyed that as well.

This was a neat place. My husband and I were visiting my parents in Winston-Salem and turned to District Rooftop Bar and Grill. We sat inside, because in November it’s a little chilly. The food was good… nothing absolutely amazing, but spot on for what we needed at the time. We got the crap artichoke dip(so much for the diet) and it was delicious… Unfortunately because it was so long ago and we only went for lunch, my brain doesnt remember what we ate. I know it was good and I know I want to come back in the summer and sit on the rooftop and drink some cocktails… I’ll update my review then.
