First off, I really wanted to like this place. The guy who left a review about the bacon was right about it… yum! Anywho, we arrived early and got a seat. Within a few minutes a waitress arrived and took our drink order. She explained that all off the wait staff would be taking care of us. She did return with our drink order. However, after waiting another 20 minutes, nobody came to take our actual order. I ended up getting the manager who remedied the problem. I had the French toast stuffed with raspberries. It turned out to be be French toast with a raspberry jam. I didn’t care for it, but I ate the bacon. At the end of our meal, the manger did come by and ask how everything was. I explained that I didn’t care for my entrée. She was very apologetic and offered other options, but I declined. She was gracious enough to give me some crapes to go. Sadly, I didn’t like the crapes either. The inside was delicious, but the outside was cold almost raw dough. I also disliked the coffee. The view was really nice. For the money, next time I’ll just stick to Mary’s.

If I hadn’t had a coupon to try this restaurant out I would have been even more disappointed! Everyone’s reviews were spot-on… I wish I had checked Unilocal before purchasing the Groupon. The service is abominable! The only friendly person I encountered was the maitre d’ seating guests. The rest of the staff is absolutely useless. The idea that everyone is your server basically means that no one is your server, no one actually takes responsibility for your table. We had to ask for anything we needed multiple times while servers walked around chatting amongst themselves inattentive to the tables. We actually watched two servers spend the entire time we were in the restaurant busing 1 table. The food was actually good, but the portion sizes for the price was outrageous. I could get a better version of everything we had somewhere else for a better price with better service. Will not be coming back! Will not be spending $ 35 for this kind of breakfast!

PUBLICSERVICEANNOUNCEMENT! (I don’t say this lightly people.) That was the best bacon that has ever touched my taste buds. I wouldn’t joke about something this serious. As I bit into that 8″ strip of heaven I instantly knew. I knew that until this point we had disrespected every hog that was sacrificed for consumption. Until now they died in vein, but no more. Famous Toastery has ripped Excalibur from the Sorcerers Stone. Simply put you must put their bacon in your mouth immediately. Don’t waste time people. The manager was also extremely friendly. As she came by to check on how I enjoyed everything. I explained to her I was in shock because I had just eaten the best bacon of my entire life. I could tell by her face she wasn’t surprised because she already knew that. If I had seen the cook I would have hugged them. Not a normal hug. Like an uncomfortably long hug. Famous Toastery… Bacon wizards. Also, the Stuffed French Toast was great, service was phenomenal, but that bacon though!!!

Food was okay and the prices were a bit steep for what you got. Beautiful place to eat, just okay food and prices.

Solid 3 Stars – rounded up. A «just a few minutes» wait turned into 45+ min in a very crowded area. We were seated and realized ool around us, seated 20 min before, hadn’t received their food. With low blood sugar, I asked if I could order and the poorly trained server snottily said no. He did serve corn bread with apple butter shortly after. Would have been nice to know that was coming. Food came quickly when ordered, and was pretty good. However, the Hollandaise sauce was not authentic. Left a lot to be desired. The menu has a lot of options. You can order breakfast or lunch anytime of day. However, it forces you to be decisive because they don’t mix Savory and sweet items comma and don’t offer a little bit of everything on the plate(some hash, fruit, etc.).

Unilocal has been so good to me in Winston-Salem! This was another Unilocal find and I have been here each time I visited the area. I like their motto«Everyone is your server» because the staff is very attentive and your glasses are always full. The food was served in a timely matter and tasted good! Nothing too out of the ordinary so everything was just as described on their menu. Hours are typical brunch hours and they close at 3PM.

So I never could understand, after looking at all of the delicious pics, how The Famous Toastery was barely managing a 3 ½ star rating after 40 reviews? Now I realize that pictures are deceiving! From the moment I walked in on a Saturday morning at 8:00, I was impressed with the cool décor of this restaurant! That’s where it stops though! The pleasant staff seated us and brought out their extremely bitter coffee! Now I appreciate stronger than normal coffee, but this was so bitter and strong that it’s not appropriate in my opinion for your normal service. Apparently they serve a sweet cornbread as a appetizer, but it was brought to us with our meal which was quite strange! So I ordered the Crab Cakes Benedict, which is a excellent dish at neighboring downtown establishments, but here it is quite disappointing! All breading with hardly any sign of something from the sea! Patted out thin, not served on half of a English Muffin, and drowned in a much too thin hollandaise sauce! The other entrée we sampled was their version of Huevos Rancheros. Incredible in flavor, but lacking any substance. A incredibly thin layer of retried black beans, with two eggs on top, a thin layer of tortilla strips, all topped with a light layer of red salsa. Not worthy of a $ 10 price tag when you have no meat in the dish! A real disappointment is how I sum up my visit to the Toastery, as I had this bookmarked for months!

Our meal was on point. Great menu selection with lunch and breakfast offered all day. My boyfriend was a little put off by the prices on the menu until he received his meal. We were both very happy with our food and the service we received. They had a fantastic patio for us to enjoy our breakfast on what was an amazingly beautiful morning. We will definitely be back to the Famous Toastery. Plenty of parking as well given its«downtown» location.

Went here for a late brunch with a friend this Sunday. My impression of the Toastery is only so-so. I don’t anticipate returning any time soon. First I will get the pro out of the way: Stuffed strawberries and cream cheese French toast was delicious. There was about a 20 min wait, which wasn’t too bad, but the waiting area seating just seemed very awkward. Just sitting there staring at the entire room as they eat. Hah. Service was mostly fine. The sausage patties I received unfortunately reminded me of McDonalds. I was disappointed and asked for some bacon instead. I never received the bacon. I was disappointed again. Also tried he biscuit and gravy. Taste was alright, but again reminded me of fast food. Overall atmosphere of the restaurant was not half as inviting as it could be.

Healthy options and great service. The runner omelet with fresh roasted veggies, turkey and Brie was a little disappointing– there was minimal Brie, veggies were a little undercooked and not exciting and the gluten free toast tasted freezer burned. My partner had eggs Benedict on a biscuit. Biscuit was doughy. But the egg was cooked well. Won’t go back since it was a little pricey($ 18 each with tip — plate plus coffee) for a sub par breakfast. The 3rd star is being given for decent coffee and good service. Otherwise, food alone would be a 2.

The menu was almost overwhelming with so many options. Everyone ordered something different and we each tried a bite of each other’s food. All was fantastic!

Nice addition to the area. Went here on Sunday and it was very busy. That is a good thing. We were able to sit outside and enjoy a delicious meal. I had a chicken Caesar wrap. Really good. Chicken was flavorful and tender. The greens tasted so fresh. Not like just some shredded old bagged lettuce. It was fresh and had just enough to not over due it. Service was very good and different. Every server is your server. You don’t need to wait and look for the one who took your order if you want something. You can ask any server you see if you need something. I thought that was a great idea. Much easier for the customer. The staff seemed very on point with the system too. Very friendly and on top of everyone’s needs. Food wasn’t cheap but definitely worth it.

Was in the area and decided to get breakfast before leaving. We chose to try out this restaurant, and was not overly pleased. I wouldn’t rush back here again if I happened to be in Winston Salem again. If you do live here I wouldn’t highly recommend coming here. First, there was a wait which was typical for breakfast on a Saturday morning. When we were finally seated, they wanted to squeeze 5 people in a 4 person table so we told them that would be too tight, especially since a larger table just opened up next to it. We said we would wait for the table to be cleaned off in the corner, but the hostess insisted we go back upstairs to wait which we didn’t want to do. So instead she made us wait outside, and when we got cold from being outside and tried to come back in, the door was locked and the hostess didn’t even come back to get us, a customer had to open the door. We were finally seated and wanted to just order right away. They have the motto here that every server is your server, meaning whoever happens to be near your table will help you. This does not work well and just confuses customers and causes errors. We did get corn bread with this really good apple sauce when seated. I ordered the Greek omelette. When we were served our food, everyone’s was fairly cold. The potatoes definitely tasted like they were cooked in a huge batch and just sitting in the kitchen for a while, which is why they were not hot and mushy. The omelette was fine but the eggs weren’t that fluffy at all. The toast was also cold. But, I highly recommend putting the apple sauce served with the corn bread on the toast. They also forgot my friends bacon and we had to ask two different waiters for it until it was finally brought to the table after we were all done eating. With all of theses errors plus cold food, I was not impressed with this breakfast place.

I can here for lunch and enjoyed Toast much better this time. The service was great and the manager came to check on our table several times. I had the #3 burger with Gruyère cheese. The burger was huge and juicy and the sauteed mushrooms and onions were great. I got the pesto pasta salad and it was a little bland but good. The sweet tea was good as well. I would probably order from the lunch side of the menu in the future. It is a loud restaurant and the prices are on the higher side.

We had a wonderful time at brunch this weekend. My friend and I finally stopped by since it changed from District to Famous Toastery. The atmosphere is wonderful and with us experiencing such a warm December it’s nice to have an outdoor breakfast/brunch spot. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. I got their signature Bloody Mary and it was a delicious blend of all the BM essentials plus horse radish, tabasco sauce and olive. The best part is that it was on special for $ 6! I also ordered the sunrise burrito filled with egg whites, Brie and veggies served with their homemade salsa, it was perfect. My friend got a lobster egg dish with hollandaise and practically inhaled it. We will definitely be making this a regular weekend outing! Thanks for the wonderful experience FT :)

The breakfast here is good if you don’t mind a $ 40 breakfast for two. That’s a bit out of my league for regular eating, though. I admit this is my own bias, because I wouldn’t balk at paying that for dinner and even a robust lunch. Pricing aside, the food is good and the service is attentive, if a bit overeager still. I had 2 – 3 different people try to clear my plate when i was still working on the last little bits. For what i was paying, I wasn’t going to leave a scrap. After the 3rd person asked if I was done with it, they left it alone finally. I am curious to know, going forward, what is going to become of the rooftop bar, because that is without question the most unique and desirable part of the otherwise badly laid out(structurally) building.

We have been here twice so far, but I am already convinced it is my favorite breakfast place in the WS. It is super nice to have a breakfast place that serves creative, interesting breakfast options in a nice environment with great service! A true sucker for all things smoked salmon, I have tried the bagel and salmon and eggs dish. Both were great, but I am hesitant to name either as my new favs. Also a bit disappointed that the salmon was farmed vs. wild. I did throughly enjoy the rye toast though. And who can beat having cornbread to snack on while you wait for your meal! I think the true winner at this place may have to be the omelets, which the husband tends to order on the reg. The tastiest combo found thus far has been the Northwestern, which comes with herbs and goat cheese, but adding mushrooms took it to the next level. They achieved such a nice caramelization on the shrooms that they truly made the whole dish! The grits here also super deliciously tasty, but also very rich. We will def be back to eat our way through more of the Toastery’s menu. It will also be super nice to eat here on the patio during warmer weather.

We just had a friend bring us lunch from this establishment. Both my husband and I went with lunch items opposed to breakfast: a club sandwich and a Cobb salad. Both meals were good. My salad didn’t have avocado on it unfortunately. I find that happens a lot to me. I LOVE Cobb salads and restaurants always say it will come with avocado but the salads never seem to have it. The portion sizes were nice. We have a $ 50 gift card for this place so I am excited to try some other menu items!!!

Really enjoyed my breakfast here! If you had been to District the interior will look super familiar. As in they didn’t change a thing about the main room when you walk in. But, why would they? I always thought that was a pretty spot with all the chandeliers. The menu itself if very extensive and you can get breakfast or lunch at any time of the day. Every server is your server, you don’t get assigned one specific server although they do seem to be assigned to certain parts of the room. To start every table gets a basket of corn bread with apple butter. I was a fan! I generally always get corned beef hash everywhere I go. Their’s is definitely homemade, not the out of the can variety. They pride themselves on being a scratch made kitchen. They serve it topped with eggs cooked to your liking and hollandaise. Now, I am a huge hollandaise fan but I thought it was a bit too much. Next time I’d rather just get eggs with corned beef hash on the side. I found the hash to be quite tasty and would certainly order it again. My husband got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a biscuit. The bacon was crispy and delicious, the biscuit was more a cross between bread and a biscuit. We were in opening weekend and they did not have their liquor license yet. They will be offering mimosas and bloody mary’s soon enough.
