Have stayed here several times over the years, no thrills hotel without an elevator, so if you have heavy bags, think twice! Only stayed one night this time, but asked the lady at the front desk this morning what the checkout time was. After she stated 11am, I asked if it would be possible to extend it to 12, I thought a reasonable request. She looked at me and said«why, are you going to church»! Since when are you required to provide an explanation or reason, you’re not! I have stayed at many hotels this past year and asked for several extensions, but this was the first time I was ever asked why. I was born and raised in Winona and moved away 30 years ago, but come back frequently to visit family. I will not be staying at this hotel again!

Very pleasant front desk personnel. Better than average breakfast buffet. An older hotel but it is obvious the owners take care of it. There are little, cute decorations everywhere. I recommend this for the value driven traveler.

Had a friend in town from NY stay here. I stood next to him as he checked in and the woman said, «And why are you in town?» We just stared in amazement. «What are you here for?» she stared back expectantly. I said, «I don’t think that is any of your business.» «Well, we have to know,» she snapped back. «No – you don’t. I really don’t think you do.» I answered. She retorted that for sales and marketing reasons they need to know what people are doing in town and why they are here. Very intrusive.

Very small room, actually not much bigger than the bed they put in it. I was surprised by how small it was and actually had to laugh at it. We were also put in a corner room next to a utility closet and anytime anyone would access that closet it sounded like they were walking into our room. Very thin walls, I could hear conversations in the hallway and I’m certain we inadvertently bothered our one neighbor with some of our own moderate noise. That said, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable enough. Where this hotel really loses it is the service at the front desk. I booked the hotel through because I wasn’t looking for a Days Inn, I was just looking for a deal on a hotel in Winona. Apparently the front desk at the hotel didn’t like that I went through a third party who they are partnered with to make my reservation. I was scolded when I checked in and told about problems that they were allegedly having with Priceline over my reservation details, problems which I was never made aware of by Priceline or by the hotel prior to my stay. Problems that, frankly, weren’t my problem. So upon checking in I am told about the problems they had, informed they had reserved three rooms for me out of their confusion and urged to simply call them directly to reserve rooms with them from now on. My problem with that, is that this isn’t my problem. If they don’t like working with a third party to fill their rooms then they should either stop working with that third party or they should not blame their guests for how they found their hotel and made a paid reservation to stay there. I had just driven the width of the state of WI and the last thing I need upon checking in is to be told how much I’ve inconvenienced the hotel I’m staying at by reserving my room from a website they partner with. And the kicker? They gave me a sheet of paper saying next time I should try a different third party website to reserve my room. Hypocrites.(When I checked out I got to relive all the Priceline drama again. They really need to take a hard look at the hospitality part of their business.) Some of the wording on labels and signage about the room were odd too. There were special instructions about when and how you could run the air conditioner, the no smoking sign was very forceful(a minor quibble but it shows the lack of attention to detail and hospitality in the place) and I really just couldn’t bring myself to feel completely comfortable in the place. Bathroom was fine, good water pressure in the shower. Overall, the front desk really needs to work on its manners, be careful about getting a small room(seriously, there were two adults in that room and the bed took up about 90% of the space) and if you go through a website to do your booking be prepared to be given a crappy room and a lot of attitude upon check in/check out. I will be using a different hotel the next time I stay in Winona.

Hotel is adequate, simple typical free breakfast, again adequate, room was clean and ok but a bit noisy. Staff was friendly both times we stayed here. Reasonable price. WiFi is free but we did have trouble connecting at first

Great little budget motel located near St. Mary’s University and also not too far from Winona State. The rooms were recently remodeled and look modern, the staff was friendly, and the continental breakfast had a wide variety of choices.
