Port City Chop House

Food was very good. Bake Brie app was fabulous. Oysters were fresh. Filet was perfectly cooked. The only reason for the low review is its my birthday and since I’m gluten free and can’t eat their standard complementary desert, they were unwilling to make alternative arrangements with one of their gluten free options. Makes no sense to me.

I am a sucker for a good chop house I am new to the area and found this place courtesy of Unilocal.There were high reviews but I assume from people that don’t know any better. First off let me give you my loves of the night which would be our server so sad I can’t remember her name and the crème brulé. The place was very clean but so very dated I felt like I was in the 80’s and not in a good way. The food was mediocre at best. They need a better bread with sum flare they need to offer something to enhance the meat the current options are so basic… Needless to say I won’t be spending another $ 160 here I could have brought groceries and put it on the grill.

When you see prices like these, you expect a great meal. Wasnt impressed

Went for a birthday dinner. Service was impeccable and food was great! One of my guest steak was over cooked. They apologized and paid for the steak dinner. That’s how customer service is done. I will be back.

This place is good. I think Ruth Chris has better tasting food and prefer the environment at Ruth Chris. Honestly this place very is good. Staff is very friendly.

It depends. If you are comparing it to Outback or some other chain then it is far better. If you are comparing it to a restaurant that cares about service then you will be wanting for more.
Pleasant and clean but no tablecloths and typical flatware. The food was good but no style or elegance. The service was barely adequate. Our server couldn’t have cared less and we needed to flag her down for service. My steak was properly cooked but lacked flavor. My spinach was freshly sauteed but again lacked flavor. Dessert was a nuked fruit soup with oatmeal poured on top.
This is no Ruth’s Chris. While it may compare in price it falls short in execution.

The salad with salmon on top is five stars. Me friend insisted I get it, 3 days have gone by and I can’t stop thinking about it.

The restaurant is elegant yet warm and inviting. Our waiter Daniel was friendly and informative, we were vacationing and he took the time to tell us about the area and made recommendations.
Our oysters Rockefeller was delicious, I’ve never tried it before so I could not compare but even at $ 17 for 6 shells I was not disappointed.
The bread was crusty warm and soft. My Caesar was a little bland but my wife’s house salad was amazing with a creamy blue cheese dressing that over flowed with blue cheese and flavor.
We both had 8 ounce ribeye seasoned and cooked to perfection. My wife had the potatoes au gratin that Daniel recommended and she has not stopped commenting about how they were they best she has ever tried. My loaded baked potato was huge and tasted like u’d expect. Not great not bad just ur traditional baked potato.
The only disappointment was the cheesecake that accompanied our dinner package tasted like SAMs club with herseys syrup and a artificial raspberry icecream topping from ur local grocery store since it was «free» I didn’t knock off a star given our overall enjoyment however it was a very poor note to end our evening

A great location and my wife and I were expecting a good meal.
Firstly, when a good restaurant presents you with a good bisque accompanied by plastic rapped oyster crackers I am concerned.
I was disappointed. My Cowboy ribeye lacked flavor. It was clearly under seasoned.
Both requested Medium Rare– it was missed on both steaks– they were both clearly rare!
I feel like this restaurant is priced for better quality and better overall experience.
My recommendation is give this a miss. Save your $ 165.00 for when you are at a better restaurant.

Always pleased with the food & desert. Pleasant atmosphere. Consistent each time we chose this for lunch.

Enjoyed an anniversary dinner there and was not disappointed. Every course that came out was better than the last. As amazing as the food was, honestly the best part of the meal was the friendly staff.

Excellent food. I had the filet with crab meat, bearnaise sauce, and asparagus. Salad, bread, mashed potatoes with garlic. All of it was excellent, as was the service. Nice big booths and tables, clean and well maintained. A bit expensive, but you know that going in. No surprises.
Too much food to finish. Got a to-​go box ate it the next day, another full meal. Awesome. Assuming you’re not on a tight budget, highly recommended!

Long wait to get drink, order. Restaurant half empty. Server basically ignored me because I was sitting alone.
I have had better Ceasar salads at an Applebee’s.

Oh my gosh… I’m staying at the Hampton Inn Suites directly behind the Chop House so was thrilled to learn that the Chop House delivers room service?! to the motel. I had the sashimi tuna and it was AMAZING! Like butter! Soooo fresh! We are relocating to the area and I can guarantee this will become one of our favorites. Try it, you will not be disappointed. Thank you Port City Chop House! :))

This place is okay. Food has lost quality. Booths and chairs have got to be reupholstered or buy new. $ 31 filet mignon– I should have a comfortable seat. Get some decorator in there and earn rights as great restaurant.

My husband and I were in town for the weekend and were told that this is the place to go if we wanted steaks, which we did! I think that there is NOTHING I would change about anything we ordered. The filets were cooked exactly correctly, the crab dip was excellent, our waiter was great. Top notch! We loved it!

Food. Service. Atmosphere.
Celebrated the closing of a house there a few weeks ago and let me tell you that, while pricey, it is the best place to have a special dinner to enjoy or reward yourself (and your wife, and grown up family).
The steaks looked awesome. I had the lobster and it was the perfect size and cooked to perfection.
From the hostess to the server, from entry to exit, I very much enjoyed…

Always good! We go often and sit at the bar, or at a bar table. The drinks are excellent and the food is outstanding. If you go before 7PM on most nights, they offer a selection of $ 9 appetizers, all of which are special and delicious. Tops are the oysters Rockefeller and the Tenderloin beef tips. Also excellent are the crab dip and the lump crab cocktail. The steaks are the best in Wilmington. I especially love their filet mignon. Excellent management and a professional wait staff.
We also go for lunch, the salads are very fresh and delicious, try their chop salad with grilled chicken or salmon. and one last recommendation… they make the best club sandwich I’ve ever had.
I’ve never had a reservation and never had to wait. We always just go straight into the spacious bar area. They also have a a very pleasant outside dining area, with a fireplace.

Three stars because if you bill yourself as a high end steak house then you need to live up to that.
My hubs and I both got the Ribeyes. His was a bit over cooked. Mine was cooked fine, but my baked potato was barely warm.
The salads were adequate but we had a much better Caesar salad tonight at another establishment. I was very sad that I could not give this place higher marks. The service was excellent but the food was meh, for the money we paid. Sorry Port City Chop House, I wanted to like you. Maybe we were there on an off time.

I can’t believe I did not review this place after my last meal here! I would have sworn I did. Having eaten here many times over the last few years, I have to say the quality and service have been and continue to be top notch. This is the place to go for that special occasion, which for me will be almost every time I go to Wilmington! The steaks and chops are fabulous, and for me the appetizers can be enough to fill me up! But I go on, and on, and on, and sometimes it is just too much! I am hungry again and I just had dinner. Oh if I was in Wilmington tonight!
