My wife and I went here in order to get out of our rut of eating at the same places over and over again. The food was pretty good, and we were even more excited to find out that they had a lunch menu… until we got the check. When questioned why the bill did not match the price list, we were told that they had decided not to allow any«specials» that day. No one bothered telling us this before we received the bill. We left feeling a little ripped off. I don’t mind paying for a good meal, but 50 bucks for a quick lunch before a movie was a little excessive. Don’t think I’ll be going back again. YMMV.

We got the hibachi chicken and hibachi vegetables. Very good. The prices are expensive but you get fresh, well prepared food. I would haven give 5 starts but my waiter was MIA. He was also making drinks so everyone that came after us got served their drinks and food before us. My boyfriend and I just watched him. It even took forever to get our sodas.

Definitely the best Nikki’s in town! Luca(sorry if I spelled your name wrong man) is one of my favorite bartenders. Always remembers you and is really attentive. Every time we go and sit at the bar he always makes us feel special in some sort of little way. Usually a big way! My girlfriend and I visit every Sunday and always look forward to it. If you haven’t gone to Nikki’s and met Luca, you’re really missing out!

My girlfriend and I just left Nikki’s off Military Cutoff. We waited 10mins at the bar before being served a drink with only 2 other people sitting at the bar who already had their food and drinks. We got our drinks, then waited probably 5 mins to be sat. The time wasn’t unreasonable, but the service was lacking. Then we were sat at a table where we were ignored for 25mins. No one checked on us at all. Not once. No waters. No nothing. It was pathetic. We got up and left. Then we saw the waiters trying to figure out who’s table it was… Wow. Just went to Okami on College and was immediately sat and have a drink. They are equally as busy. Don’t waste your time anywhere else!

We’ve been Nikki’s customers for 9 years– since they were just a small restaurant downtown. We have never been disappointed! Had another great meal last night for our anniversary. Highly recommend!

Was a super busy Saturday night, so instead of waiting for a table we opted for the outside area, even though it was a little chilly. The waiter couldn’t get the heat lamp to work, so Johnny Chin(the owner) brought us some hot sake to keep us warm! The whole staff was awesome, and we had a great time! Mad props to Mr. Chin!

One of our favorite spots to eat in Wilmington. Quality service, comfortable atmosphere, and great sushi! We’ve been regulars for 2 years now. I recommend it to all my friends. Delicious and affordable. See you there. :)

Stephanie was an amazing bartender/server. The dining experience, drink service, and food presentation was outstanding. Most definitely coming back soon! Maybe even tomorrow! Who freakin knows? But that’s life, right? Ciao xo

Disappointing experience The shrimp and chicken were both over cooked. There was some flavor but the rice and veggies were missing something, pepper perhaps, and no pepper shaker anywhere in sight. Their competitors have nothing to worry about.

While the wait staff were prompt and polite, the food left a lot to be desired. The sashimi pieces were about a third to half as big as comparably priced sashimi at other sushi restaurants, and the fish itself was relatively tasteless, which was really disappointing since my dinner was almost entirely sashimi. The miso soup had two minuscule pieces of tofu in the bowl and the rice was dry. Even if the meal was half the price it was, I wouldn’t have been satisfied with the food, but especially considering it was a premium price for a mediocre meal, I wouldn’t return here for sushi.

We have had great food and service but last time here we watched the chef use his spatula on raw chicken then immediately use the same spatula to serve our rice. I passed on the rice for me and my family and the manager only offered a look of confussion. I just paid and left… for good.

Working in the Wilmington, NC area, my office was close to Nikki’s. Went there for lunch in the sushi bar and it was delicious. The staff was polite and the food was great. I am new to the whole sushi thing but you know good sushi when you see it. Delicious and fresh. Wide array of styles to choose from. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for sushi in the area. Is it bad that I want to go back there for dinner tonight? :)

Wife and daughter went here on Easter Sunday night mainly because most other places were closed by 7. Glad we chose this place. Had sushi, as well as hibachi style meals. I had scallops and they had the chicken. The entire meal was prepared perfectly. Scallops are not the easiest things to cook on a flat grill but chef did a great job. Seen the show numerous times from other hibachi type restaurants so most likely will just order at regular table next time, but there will be a next time.

I try to be accurate and fair in my reviews and also descriptive. We arrived before the dinner crowd so only a few tables were occupied. We started with soup and salad. Our meal included filet mignon, lobster, shrimp, rice, vegetables and noodles. Our cook was very entertaining(quite hilarious actually) and from all of my Hitachi style experiences including those at Bennihanas this cook and the meal was the best. Food was fresh and prepared properly.(Nothing worse than under cooked or over cooked food) The portions were large and the price for what you get, reasonable. Our total bill for two with filet shrimp and lobster was $ 62 wait staff was friendly and attentive. I will dine here again. I don’t eat sushi so I can’t comment on it.

Went here while vacationing at Kure Beach because we had a gift certificate from and it was really good. Our hostess/server Karen was very friendly. She and other staff members made us feel welcomed even though our 18 month old was being an inconsiderate jerk for most of the time we were there. The food was typical of a Hibachi place and the portions were decent. The chef was funny without being annoying or obnoxious like some hibachi chefs that I’ve dealt with in the past. We all left satisfied and with a takeout box to enjoy later.

This location is reasonably close to my office and I have gone here several times for lunch. They used to have a pretty good lunch special on Friday’s which I have taken advantage of on several occasions. I’m a bit of a sushi-holic and love trying new kinds and rolls that I’m not familiar with, Nikki’s has your basic selection. Although not the best sushi in town(try Yosake) this is a decent backup option if you can’t make it downtown.

My wife and I are new to the Wilmington area and we have tried 3 of the areas sushi restaurants so far. Nikki’s has been the best so far. Service was attentive and friendly. I would have liked to see more choices for the sushi/shashimi entrée’s but what was there was fresh and tasteful. We enjoyed all the rolls we ordered. It does get a little noisy with the habachi grills but it gives the kids something to watch. We will eat here again.

TL;DR: Pass. Food is awful, service is poor. As far as Japanese goes, this is by far the most underwhelming experience I’ve had thus far. My fiancé and I found Nikki’s on Unilocal, and after reading the rave reviews, decided to give it a shot. Big mistake. Never before have I had Teraiyaki chicken that was the exact consistency(and moisture content) of cardboard. Despite it being slathered in clearly Kikkomann-sourced bottle teraiyaki sauce, I couldn’t bring myself to finish. The accompanying vegetables were wilted, mushy, and as unattractive to the eye as they were to the palate. My fiancé ordered two rolls, and several pieces of sushi. As soon as her plate got to the table, the smell of stale fish threatened to overwhelm us. Aside from the sushi being far beyond its prime, everything was slathered in some vinegar-based sauce that made everything all but inedible. As that weren’t bad enough, they were apparently not anticipating a large Saturday night dinner crowd; our waiter(whom, it should be noted, was the only waiter on) was also our(incompetent) bartender. My fiancé’s drink was disgustingly sweet, after the near-5-minute wait to get it in the first place. All told, the 3-course meal cost us nearly $ 105 that I’d dearly like to have back. I could’ve spent it on something far better. Like a root canal.

Wilmington has a number of sushi restaurants but Nikki’s is among the best. The location near Mayfaire has always been good with service and the sushi is fresh and inventive. Some of the rolls are unique and it changes often so the variety is welcome. The head chef is a great guy with excellent experience and make each dish presentation look appetizing. Being a sushimi fan, I enjoy the variety but also the quality. 3 different types of tunu, uni most nights that is fresh, hamachi is really nice and the sake tops it off. Give it whirl!
