I went home last week and we were trying to figure out where to go to out to dinner one night. Sushi is usually the top choice so my mom suggested Shukai and that she’d heard highly about it. Overall, i agree. The waitress told us that the sushi lady is there EVERY night doing her thing. «Major dedication.» We all shared the thai mixed vegetable entrée with shrimp and two sushi rolls(the specials) It was all delicious!

Oh my gosh where are y’all? This place has the best food! I had the avocado salad and grilled shrimp, tuna sushi, yellow curry and sparkling sake. Heaven

Great sushi, great service and great prices. We love Tom, owner/sushi chef, he strives to give the best service and he takes time to know his customers. Prices are well worth it and quality is excellent.

Highly recommended. Delicious and fresh sushi! Try the Volcano roll, Japanese bagel, or baked salmon roll. Every thing was great! Service was quick, staff was friendly. Rolls are standard pricing $ 8 — $ 10 well worth it I will be a returning customer.

This is the best sushi restaurant I have been to in a while! My husband and I love to try new sushi places. This was by far the best thus far. I highly recommend this place. The sushi is VERY fresh! My young children even raved about it! We also got the fried rice and cucumber salad. Both were additionally amazing!

The tuna and salmon nigiri is so fresh it melts in your mouth! We shared the Shukai roll and the Wrightsville roll which were both so delicious and so fresh. The Wrightsville roll was so wonderful we had to share a second.

This is truly an amazing spot. The atmosphere is perfect… Tom Yum Soup, Tuna Tartare, all sushi, all Thai. You will not be disappointed. The owner rocks too — true food artist! Get ‘em Tom!!!

Great sushi! Sit at the bar and talk to Tom. Tell him what you’re looking for and let him make it for you. Why go anywhere else for sushi.

Just ate here last night. We thought this place had just opened, but has been in business for over 1 year. The sushi was excellent. The Tuna Symphony, was the best tuna sampler type dish we have ever had. Very friendly servers. We will defiantly be back.

We LOVE Shukai! Best sushi in Wilmington without a doubt. My boyfriend and I go there at least twice a week. Tom and his staff are absolutely fantastic. Great service, fresh fish, extensive menu with lots of options, and delicious saki. I adore this place and so glad that it’s close to home :) thanks Tom!

Locally owned, delicious, and creative. Really a 4.5, but hey, I really like Tom(the owner) so I’m giving them the 5 stars. One of our favorites for sushi Ambiance: Yes, it’s in a strip mall, but the inside is cute, semi-casual. They have a sushi bar along with dining room tables. Service: Very friendly wait staff. The rolls themselves can take a few minutes to come out, but that’s because the chef/owner prepares everything HIMSELF. Really, truly, the pride of ownership. At the end of your meal, Tom comes by to greet you, every time. We went once on Chinese New Year, and he shared in some saki with our table to celebrate. Such a personable guy. Food: We always stick to sushi, although, I’m sure the Thai food is excellent, too… Things we love– 1. Generous portions 2. fresh seafood 3. creative and beautiful presentations Recommend: –tuna symphony –R2D2 roll –Firecracker –Wrightsville Sunset –Sushi napoleon Drinks: try the plum sake, you’ll like it Recommend for small groups wanting to get delicious sushi to share.

Fantastic place, their chicken fried rice was awesome and there sushi was good to. Had the regular assortment and a rainbow role. Only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because if your a sushi lover don’t expect to get a boat or large entrée here, they only do smaller order’s. However what they do serve is tasty and done right and the thai is good to. It’s also a small shop I saw 3 – 4 employees tops… If the place had a lot of customers at once I don’t think they would be equipped to handle it. Overall a very good place to relax and have a great meal.

Our visit tonight(Monday) was just okay. It took a while for our food to arrive. The quality was there but I have had better sushi in Raleigh. Part of our order made it on the bill but never made it to the table. Hate that. Long intervals between server visits to the table made us just want to pay and go.

The curry is spicier than it says on the menu, but that’s fine with me because I love spicy food. My wife complained to me that the green beans in the curry were undercooked, but again, I like crunchy, squeaky green beans. The portions were perfect for one, hungry person. Will be back.

«Tuna Symphony» is a MUST get. Or simply order the Ahi Poki Tuna, and the Tuna Tartar. My absolute favorites there. The sushi on the other hand. Balls of rice. It’s sad how places try to rip a customer off by putting almost no fish in the roll and adding a ton of rice. But again. «Tuna Symphony». Or the above stated. Is heaven

The Tom Yum soup with shrimp was nicely spiced even though the shrimp were a bit overdone. Chicken with ginger sauce was fresh and flavorful. I will definitely give Shukai another try when I return to the area.

Saturday night dinner crowd with no waiting. Brian was our server, well done dude. Good service, dinner was just right. Large portions, so prepare to take home unless you are a big eater. We ordered edamame for an app, i had the yellow curry with tofu and my date had the cashew dinner with chicken. The cashew dinner had the hot pepper icon next to it, but the waiter said it was medium. My date is not a ‘spicey’ food eater, but he tried it and really enjoyed the full flavor of the dish. The food was well prepared and the service was spot on. It is quieter than Indochine and more intimate. We both appreciated that for a change.

This place was both a great surprise and great dinner. It is new and yet the entire evening was super. We started with edamame and a sashimi appetizer. Very fresh. We then went to Thai and had a curry veggie dish and a shrimp and green bean dish in a spicy brown sauce. Wow! Both were delicious. Te place was busy and the sushi bar was busy as well. Our service was great and timely. Top it off with the owner Tom coming out to say hello and check on our meal and service. Nice touch. Try this place. The ambience is top notch. Nice wine selection too.

Great new sushi/Thai spot near the beach. Tom Yum Shrimp soup, Seared Tiger Beef app, Chef Choice Sashimi, Yellow Curry… all very good and extremely fresh. Very reasonable prices and nice atmosphere(even though in a strip mall). Dinner was a treat and I look forward to having lunch here frequently. An excellent addition to the neighborhood.
