Reservations… at a diner? Have you ever??? The food at the Westfield Dinner is simply average dinner fare, the type where the one really good meal sticks in your mind, when in reality is there are more swing and misses, that a hits. However, the attitude of the front of the house is disappointing. This was in my family’s(Me, wife, 5 year old and 1 year old baby) «regular rotation» for our Friday night dinner out. We talked about crossing it off the list, but out of shear indolence, we found ourselves going back. The treatment by the front end hosts(Owner family members?) caused us to cross it off for good. Multiple times, we were kept waiting for a table, noticing customers that who came in after us, seated ahead of us. When I asked about that, I got a shrug in return. A recent Friday night brought us back, only to be seated in a very small table, next to the swinging doors of the kitchen; replete with clanging, general hustle and bustle, orders being barked out and flies buzzing about. We politely asked our server if we could move over to a nearby table, and he agreed«No Problem, do so.» After we got our crew packed up and moved over,(in of itself, quite a task) and finally settled in to order our dinner, the Front End Host, comes over as says«You can’t seat here… this table has a reservation, please move back.» Reservations… at a diner??? REALLY??? I mean let’s not kid anyone, It really is a small step above a fast food joint. Maybe it’s the«Westfield» in the name; that town, that brand, that comes with a sense of entitlement. Without a doubt, the New Jersey Diner is an icon but, the Westfield Diner is as has-been.

This place is consistently very good. My husband loves their breakfast menu. I can’t resist their pesto salmon club. The flavor combination is excellent. We often go alone or with family and friends. Lovely atmosphere and the wait staff are very attentive and friendly. A must go. Signed, A Local Girl who loves to eat

Perfect food and service if you want to eat generic, poorly prepared, disgusting food & never actually see your server after they take your order!

Worst diner. Rude people and mediocre food. I can’t understand why they’re packed? I’ve eaten here three times and gotten ill — three times. Unless you like Greek food don’t bother to waste your money. You’re better off going on the highway or Cranford if you want diner food.

Decent diner im Westfield. Ordered the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and home fries. Home fries were pretty dry but were filled with lots of onions and peppers. Server was extremely attentive and kept the coffee cups filled at all times.

Lots and lots of diners to choose from in NJ, but I’ve been here several times and the food is great. Portion size is huge and their selection of healthy plates is bigger than most diners. Service is hit or miss, but the food is fantastic!

Super clean, owners on site, very little wait time for a table even when it’s busy and very little wait time for your food Great pancakes and omlettes but omlettes can be a little on the dry end so I prefer scrambled eggs, also good lunch place for salads and sandwiches

Not sure why this place has such bad reviews but for diner food it sure hits the spot. I’ve only experienced ordering take out but food is always prepared for pick-up within 15 minutes and food is consistently great. We live in the area and it is just a nice place to grab something quick for lunch or dinner. Greek chicken panini, sweet potato fries, falafel salad are some of our go tos.

Love the Westfield diner. The menu is so big you can get anything from Italian night to waffles with strawberries, bananas and whipped cream.(That will be our next visit) tonight I had the grilled chicken Caesar wrap served with French fries(always cooked perfectly crunchy outside soft inside) my husband had the chicken kabob dinner served with salad and dessert. Of course he was so full we had to take dessert to go. The service is always attentive. Tonight we were treated to bruschetta to start the meal. Will definitely be back several more times.

They used to be much much better. So I’m only comparing them to their own past standards. Most diners are busy for the«dinner hour» but these folks were in a horrible mood. Walked in the front door, waiter whining loudly about a take out order to the register lady. While being led to seats after a short wait, we were over taken by a waitress who literally pushed my fifth grade daughter out of her way looking for«the cheese cake» and then slammed her fist on the counter. We were seated, ordered and when food arrived, wife’s French onion soup was cold, cheese not warm enough to even melt. Daughter’s pancakes, cold too. My BLT on toast, or warmed bread, came without mayo. I thought that was a standard. At least it has been whenever I’ve ordered one for the last 50 years. They’ve been going downhill for some time. Now they’re out of our book. Too bad.

Went to the diner with my wife for an after movie bite. What a mistake!!! Simple food gone bad, my wife had a BLT that the bacon was so burnt it was like eating bacon bits, fresh made, no doubt it had been laying on the grill since breakfast time; sandwich inedible. I ordered pancakes, 3 good size pancakes all in different degrees of doneness from undercooked to burnt. On the bright side the chicken sausage on the side was great, even though the waiter could not recommend them as he never tasted them before. In the end we should have sent our food back. If this is the best a diner can do, try a different one, lots of options out there.

I came to this diner for the first time last week. It was… a really bad experience. My dinner came with soup, salad, my entrée, and a dessert. The only good thing out of all of those options was the soup, I had chicken orzo. The soup was actually quite delicious. As for the salad, the lettuce wasn’t even crunchy. My entrée was grilled chicken with pesto pasta. It was not good. The grilled chicken was super dry and the pasta didn’t taste good at all there was no flavor whatsoever. As for the dessert, I ordered the Oreo cake and asked to change it because I couldn’t even take another bite it was gross, in exchange I got a chocolate cream pie and there was more whip cream than chocolate. The whip cream had no flavor, and the chocolate didn’t taste well either. The only thing that was somewhat okay was the crust. The room we ate in felt like a sauna! The only reason I didn’t give this place one star was because of the waiter. He wasn’t a great waiter but he tried.

Well I would say that this place should be least on the list to visit if you happen to find your place in this small, quaint little town of Westfield. First, the menu is huge, so many items that it’s hard to even narrow down what you want. Secondly, the food is below mediocre and the bad service makes it worse. Yeah — thanks for making a visitor feel very unwelcomed Luis.(Sarcasm). There are better places that aren’t too far. Also, don’t get the fried egg sandwich, because Luis put in well done, when a fried egg sandwich should have a runny yolk, even though that’s not what I requested. And thanks for charging me extra for cheese on my sandwich, and nearly $ 5 for burnt potatoes. Awesome… not. but the guy, probably the owner, that checked out, was nice. 1 star for him!

Ok, so my husband and I are gluten-free right now. This is something I hate with the fire of a thousand suns, but if doc says we need to go gluten-free for a while, then fine we will even if I think it’s ridiculous *pouts* The only reason I mention this is because we both ordered gluten-free things! My wrap tasted like cardboard, so I’m certain that order was put in correctly. However, when my husband talked about how delicious his gluten-free pancakes were, I started to get a little suspicious. Then, when the check came, it looked like this: Chicken Wrap *Use Gluten Wrap Pancakes + egg + meat *regular Ah-HA! We knew it was too good to be true! Hubs brought it up with the manager, who said he’d look into it. I was seated facing the front, so I could observe that pretty much every employee was involved with the 20 minute conversation about what they’d come over and tell us. Finally, the woman behind the counter came over and told us(with a big time attitude) that she checked with the chef and it was gluten free, and practically RAN away. Meanwhile, our waiter was nowhere to be found. Now, I get it, the waiter made a mistake inputting the order. But to just lie to our faces is bullshit. Tell us you screwed up. We won’t flip out. I’m just glad that we don’t have an actual food allergy. Also, as far as diners go, they’re stingy. My wrap came with about 8 french fries, and we had to flag down the waiter for coffee & water refills(after we sat with them empty for a while). We’re in the area often, but we won’t be returning.

Diner food at it’s best — busy evening had to pick up the teenager and he needed food immediately! I went with the chicken gyro,(eat it with a fork and knife — more chicken and tzahikii sauce than fits in a pita) husband had the french toast, son ordered the full dinner of soup, salad, and salmon. Everything was cooked perfectly, our waiter was attentive to the famishing teenager and we left happy that we didn’t have to listen to a complaining kid. We were also impressed with the pay phones in the vestibule — throw back!

Horrible horrible service !! My husband ordered the soft tacos and it comes with a side of rice. The rice and beans looked like it was made last week. The guacamole that it came with was pure LIQUID. It looked like diarrhea. I ordered the Greek chicken panini which comes in a multi grain bread. First of all the bread was not your average panini bread, it was a pita bread. Secondly, everything was falling off and ending up on my plate. So I told the waiter and he argued with me and said«well that’s how paninis are made.» Uhh, not really. He was not accommodating and seemed annoyed. Never coming here! Stay away. There are better diners out there.

Didn’t have a bad experience when I was here earlier this evening with the family. Our waiter was cool and attentive throughout our dining experience. The meal portions were HUGE. I had the Balsamic Pork Chops which came with mashed potatoes(see picture). That came with a choice of soup, salad, and dessert. Five minutes after my family and I placed our orders, the food immediately came right out, which was much quicker than I thought. The complimentary bread basket which came out as well was hot and fresh, and was perfect for dipping in the soup. Crackers came with that as well. Here’s what I had: Chicken Noodle Soup: HOT and tasty, and perfect for dipping of bread and crackers. Plain Salad with Croutons: Tasted fresh. Balsamic Pork Chops: Those were huge, and tasted great! The mashed potatoes were just okay. Chocolate Layer Cake: Tasted great; nice ending to a good meal. The fact that my entrée came with all the extras was a perfect value meal. Overall, my family and I were pleased with our experience and if we ever decide to eat out at a diner again, then THIS would be the place. Cheers!
