Service is good. Food isn’t bad. The crab Rangoon and nime chow were stellar, but the beef noodle soup was bland and the beef was fatty and tasted super cheap. Wasn’t a huge fan. The best thing about this place was the decore. There were 4 fish tanks with cool exotic fish in them and plenty of room in the place for it to be relatively quiet due to the fact that there was no music playing haha. Probably won’t come back unless I’m strictly getting nime chow and crab Rangoon.

Atmosphere is nice and clean. Ordered the rice noodle soup hoping it to going to be like vietnamese phở but aside from that broth was bland and the beef was way overcooked. Service was slow considered this dish is relatively fast to make. Probably would not make another trip out here. Would rather go to Silver Crystal instead.

I lived down the street from here, so i always loved going on a walk and stopping in for a quick bite. I think it was better wen it was Jackies Galaxy, the food tasted less salty. It’s still good, just not as good.

The last few times I have been here have been wonderful. I usually order the vegetable been bong with a lot of substitutions. Add fried bean curd, extra coconut milk, made with sticky rice noodles, and a veggie nim chow instead of egg roll. They are SOGREAT with doing these substitutions for me. I probably sound like a food snob(which I kind of am) but It’s awesome to go somewhere that doesn’t get pissed at you for doing so. The last time I stopped in the owner or manager(not sure which) even made me my own peanut sauce without fish sauce(I’m vegan) for my bee bong. This was incredible nice and I didn’t even ask for it(usually I just ask for sweet and sour). The portions are also very big and I always leave satisfied and sometimes with leftovers!

Jack’s Penang Best Asian Fusion Food anywhere. I won’t go to Chinees and Thai Restaurants and even Japanese food restaurants when I can get it all at Jack’s. Tremendously Large portions, particularly with take-out. Service is great. When I walk in I wonder why there isn’t a wait. We go there a couple of times a week, I think the word should get out, I am sure you will go back again and again. I am picky when dining out, try it and you will become a fan of this wonderful restaurant. Thank you Jack!!! Gary K.

The service was terrible and slow although the restaurant was not anywhere near full. The food was mediocre at best. Nothing special. Go to the nearby Silver Crystal restaurant for the same genre of food, but much better quality, taste, and service.

The food is amazing, kitchen is a little slow during dinner but everything was fresh. Waiters were friendly and professional, owner was extremely friendly… Love it here!

I keep giving this restaurant another chance. and each time it keeps getting worse. I am still hopeful though. This last time i went the service was VERY slow. the restaurant was COLD(its January) as were the extra plates they gave us to separate our food. They brought out our appetizers … but never came back with plates for us to eat them. We both had to share the one dish they came on. The entrees came out sporadically and tasted like they was reheated. This is definitely not Jackie’s Galaxy anymore. And lastly, even the bill was messed up. Will i go back? maybe eventually … but not for some time. There are PLENTY of other Chinese restaurants in RI.

Go for a drink at the bar and maybe have an appetizer. The time we went to sit down and eat was disappointing. Our waiter did his best but took way too long for our order to arrive. Frustrated by the lack of service we asked to speak to the owner, what a piece of work he is! He heard our complaints then made the motion with his hands indicating our waiter was«crazy»… Mr. Penang, as owner, you hired this individual and it wasn’t even his fault! Nice job throwing your employee under the bus. We were given a different waiter after this exchange which was unnecessary and uncomfortable for all involved. Check comes, not a single thing comped. As we left we all agreed never to eat here again and I sought out our original waiter to let him know it was not his fault and his boss is the real problem!!!

We went back to Jack’s Penang tonight(NB: It is no longer Jacky’s Galaxy — a different owner and a different menu) after not having gone in quite a while due to poor service the last time we went, not to mention a few other things that did not sit right with us. But tonight everything was A-OK — our food was excellent, the wine pour was generous and the service was superb. Our waiter, Carlos, bent over backward to be sure we had everything we wanted, and another waiter we know there, Chris, also stopped by the table to chat with us, and we were so happy to see him again. Both young men are very knowledgeable and excellent waiters. Happily a full sushi menu had been added since our last visit. My chirashi entrée was excellent and fresh. My husband really loves the beef satay hot pot, and his was delicious tonight, as always. A steamed vegetable dish rounded out the dinner for us and the servings are so generous, we had to take a lot of food home.(Our dog was extremely happy!) We’re delighted we had a terrific experience tonight, not to mention excellent food and service. We will be back here soon — it’s very close to where we live, so that’s a win-win for us!

After reading some other reviews I’m wondering if maybe it’s just me. Like maybe I just have some sort of dumb luck that makes my experience not as great as other people’s experiences. My hubby and I came here for dinner tonight. It wasn’t overly busy, maybe three other tables. We shared an appetizer combo that came with Vietnamese style Nime Chow, Lot, and Crab Rangoons. Overall not bad for what it was. For my entrée I ordered the mini Godzilla roll and two pieces of unagi sushi. The hubby got chicken with basil. The Godzilla roll and chicken with basil came out at the same time but the two pieces of unagi took another five minutes to arrive. Everything was going fine until I got the hiccups! Unfortunately, our waitress did not provide us any refills and seemed to have vanished. Eventually, I was able to get past the hiccups when disaster struck again! My stomach was full… What do you do when you can’t finish your food but don’t have enough to warrant a to-go box? You pick out the good parts! I went after the raw fish in the mini Godzilla roll which unfortunately had two things wrong with it… it was slightly fishy and it was only white fish. The description from the menu: «tuna, salmon, white fish inside deep fried scallion, masago and special sauce.» I greatly missed tuna and salmon(the main reason I ordered the roll in the first place) So my husband and I sat at the table, done with our meals, nothing to wash it all down with for another fifteen minutes. Our waitress finally noticed us and brought the check and we escaped. One thing that disappointed me about the food was the sloppy presentation. Maybe I will just try the Chinese food from now on.

I visited Jack’s Penang tonight with my boyfriend after a long day in Bristol. We were pretty tired and just wanted some quick sushi and decided to stop here. My boyfriend had been here once prior and enjoyed the sushi. The waiter was extremely friendly and very attentive. Great customer service. However, that was really on the great thing about the restaurant. Our spicy tuna roll just tasted like spicy mayo. There wasn’t any tuna taste at all, so little in fact that i split the rolls open to see if there was tuna inside! The breadcrumbs they placed on top were stale and gave the rolls a weird garlicy aftertaste. The shrimp tempura roll was tough. It seemed like the shrimp were maybe cooked too long and caused them to become hard to chew. The rainbow roll was the only roll we really enjoyed because the fish on top was definitely fresh. I haven’t tried the other Asian faire but have heard it is better than the sushi. I would definitely be willing to try it out again.

Perhaps I’m a bit spoiled because I live within walking distance to Boston’s Chinatown but this place is just blah. I hate restaurants that try to offer everything under the sun and this is definitely a restaurant that fits into the category. The menu offers Japanese Sushi, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai. The second that I saw their menu, I knew that everything will be bland — yes it’s easy to cut up a few pieces of fish and serve it on a dish. It is also easy to throw vegetables and noodles into a wok and then scoop it onto a dish. The reason why restaurants are able to establish a good name is not because they offer a lot of different options but that they can cook an ordinary dish in an extraordinary way. This restaurant however does not understand that concept and time after time, I come to this restaurant hoping for more. They offer a lunch special where you can select from a condensed menu. The lunch will also come with a side order of soup and an egg roll or fried chicken fingers. No matter what dish I order, the order is usually oily and bland tasting. I wish that someone would open a legit Chinese restaurant in RI so when my parents want to go out for lunch or dinner, we can go somewhere legit.

Overpriced Chinese food for the area. Better experience at Seven Moons not to far down the road with better selection and more reasonably priced. Within 10 mi.

I love the food at Jack’s Panang especially the Nim Chow and Pad Thai but honestly I have not had a bad dish there. I stopped going to Jacky’s(the place before Jack’s) because the food was not up to standard and had health violations. When Jack bought it, I tried it again and was impressed. The staff are very friendly and food is great. They have added sushi now too which I tried tonight and was very pleased. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because of the take out. They often forget to put in the essentials(soy sauce, chop sticks, hot and sour sauce etc). In addition, I have found you really need to check each to go order, they have left out the white rice I ordered two times. So as long as you double check your bag before you leave, you are fine. But going home without the right food is not so good. I love their chocolate fortune cookies!

I agree with most of the three star ratings. It is perfectly acceptable Americanized stuff. I really liked the Crab Rangoon. My main, orange beef would have been really good if they would have not drowned it in the sauce. Their fried rice was also tasty. Service itself was slow. I had to go and refill my own glass. Empty plates stayed piled on the side of the table. I was seriously underwhelmed there. But, if you are at the movies and don’t want Chili’s, a good alternative.
