Don’t Tell Mama, Do yourself and friends a favor and«Don’t Tell Anyone» about this place. Over priced bad food… over priced weak drinks. The table has bread and butter plates as part of the set up… my plate was crusted with I don’t know what. But they don’t offer bread or butter. If you want you can buy the garlic bread for 6 bucks and you get sick small slices. Sent my entrée back after one bite… so horrible… I did’t ask to to have it taken off the tab but they did the right thing and took it off anyway… thus the one star. The dish btw was the Pea Pasta. Staff was friendly but the sound system pretty bad. This place is need of a chef and a new menu with reasonable prices… unless the food is amazing.

Stopped in here on New Year’s Eve. How do you open a piano bar in the heart of WeHo, across from Hamburger Mary’s, and attract a completely heterosexual crowd?! AND on NYE they’re doing open-mic karaōke(yay, drunk people singing off-key), instead of having a band, or at least a featured piano player? Oy. Oh, and the place was probably 60% full yet the service was TERRIBLE… first came my friend’s drinks… then a while later their dessert… then my club soda. Huh. And the layout of the place is awful. We were sitting over in the seating area on the west side of the restaurant, behind the bar, where we had a great view… of the BACKWALL of the bar, and NONE of the stage. Couldn’t see the musicians/drunken karaōke warblers at all.(In fact, a couple of folks near us stood up, walked from their tables and stood by the back side of the bar just so they could see the stage. How uncomfortable.) Freakin’ ridiculous… how hard would it be to just swap the seating area and move the bar over by the wall, so everyone in the place would have a view of the stage? DTM, I think you need to make some changes. Otherwise I don’t think you’re going to last much longer.

I came here with some friends one night for a laugh. I’ve never been to the one in New York… but this one was a lot of fun. The pianist was awesome and the Bartenders were really sweet and helpful if you wanted to sing. In fact… I’m pretty sure we were bugging the hell out of them after a few cocktails. Nevertheless, we had an awesome night and have gone back once since. Always a good time. Wide range of singers from good to awful… but that’d the fun of an open Mic night at a piano bar. My stars are blatently for the entertainment… as I can’t say I’ve eaten a lot of there food. I did try there Red Velvet dessert and it was pretty bad. Sorry… gotta be honest. For the money, it just wasn’t doin me right and tight. However it was the first month that they were open… so hopefully it will be better. All in all I wholeheartedly recommend this place!

This seems like a pretty swell spot. I think they might have been having an off-night service wise… I’m gonna have to give it another shot though because I want desperately for them to have their shit together so I can come back all the time. The GOOD: They have OPENMIC!!! I was there on a Wednesday night and they have an amazing open mic night with a great pianist who will accompany singers and play nearly anything you ask for! And the singers are AMAZING, it’s like a fucking broadway musical up in there. For realz yo. Some chick even did opera, and she was phenomenal! Also the food looked really good. I had already eaten so I only ordered a coffee and a water but I’ll come with an appetite next time. The BAD: we waited FOREVER and no one seated us. No joke. We finally went and seated ourselves. After whoknowshowlong/eternity a guy came up with menu’s and basically everything moved at that slow as molasses pace for the entire experience. It wasn’t a big deal to me since I wasn’t hungry and I was hoping they’d call my name for open mic before my friends finished their food, but it sucked for my friends because they were really hungry and it took them over half an hour to get a soup and salad combo out to us… It was a wedge salad and a bowl of chili, how long can it possibly take to prepare? And the chili wasn’t even hot when it came out. FAIL. The UGLY: Despite the time it took to get the food and for my friends to eat, we still had to leave before I could drop some ARETHA on the establishment. Hence, I will have to return and show them how it’s done ;)

A few of my friends decided to have an after party after attending an amazing event at The Hudson, «Don’t Tell Mama» was a suggestion based on our handy-dandy Unilocal app. So after all is said and squared away, our little group trekked to Don’t tell Mama for an after party night cap. The place was not that busy, most of the people stayed close to the stage listening to a popular melody of an obviously«very happy» slightly liquored-up singer *grin* Our little group found a cool spot behind the bar, our very jolly server gave us a drink menu but most of us opted to just go to the bar and hang while waiting for the lovely Miss to take our drink order… .Okay, here’s the deal, I like the place, seems like a fun crowd and venue, however, upon waiting for our drinks, I did not like the fact that the bartender kept sticking her nose in drink mix cups from the fridge(mixers or drink concoctions maybe?), this could indicate a couple things –stale mixes/juice or just double checking what’s in the cup… anyway, it doesn’t look good at all nor sanitary… I could honestly say that this may be the first time I did not finish an alcoholic bevie I was served, doesn’t matter how appetizing the drink looked just can’t get past the fact that someone’s nose was in this mix before it was served. Might give Don’t tell Mama another try in the future, but I think I will speak my mind the next time I see a sniffing nose in the mixing cup.

We came here because I bought a coupon for $ 20 for $ 50 worth of food from Living Social. Me, my girlfriend and my friend, we came a few mins after they opened. We were like the 2nd group to come in. As we walked in, the piano player, was playing piano and also welcoming us which was pretty cool. We took our seats and after few mins, the waitress came by to take our drink order. We ordered 2 appetizers which were guacamole and mozzarella kebabs and 2 entrees which were Linguini Pesto Alfredo with Shrimp and Shrimp Scampi. The guacamole was delicious and the mozzarella kebabs were ok. The Pesto Alfredo and Shrimp Scampi were good. It was oily. The piano player takes song request and can also sing karaōke. It was awesome to hear the piano and hear the piano player sing.

Don’t tell Mama about the food. I was hoping to like this place because I miss the old fashion piano bars in New York. Unfortunately it was nothing like it. We decided to go anyway and have dinner, even though the food reviews weren’t all that great. Menu looked promising. Don’t get us wrong, Rochelle, the server was nice. I ordered their specialty burger medium rare. Burger came out and it was very well done. My partner had Chicken Marsala. It was okay, but not spectacular. Sent back the burger and watched him eat his dinner. He completely finished when the burger came out. Again, well done with cheddar cheese. The draw on this burger was suppose to have mozzarella cheese. Wrongly cooked, wrongly prepared… twice. I didn’t have dinner and they comped us one drink. $ 32 for his dinner, a diet coke and one jack and coke. Wow… wow… They did not do enough for ruining my night. It was better when it was O Bar. Sorry, this place needs to rethink it’s menu and apologize to all the people who gave them bad reviews for their food. Those bad reviews were legitimate.

Literally just got home from this spot and had to write a review! Nice, dark, chill spot to hear live music. You can karaōke here with the pianist. Drinks a bit pricey. DONOTORDERFOOD!!! !!! !!! !!! My bf and I bought the shrimp scampi and shrimp fettuccine pasta dishes for like 22 dollars each. It was HORRIBLE! We ate it because we were starving! We had a few shot’s before we came in and had a couple of drinks there. You would think that would have made the food taste some what better. Nope… Seriously, the frozen meal pastas at the super market is way better! No Joke! but if you want to have a few drinks with friends and sing. Then it’s cool. Just don’t eat their expensive crappy a** food. The waitress was like whatever… not the best service nor the worse.

Fun place in WeHo that’s equipped to host a bday party — especially if the birthday guest likes to sing! They have a very good live piano player who has a bunch of songbooks to choose from. The sound of the room was pretty good — and the room itself, is cool. A wraparound bar which spills into a long dining room area that carries up to the stage. The bartenders sing great, and find their way to sing on occasion, too. Anyone can sing.(As long as you *think* you can sing, that is, hehe) Have not tried the food. But the bar is fun and reasonable.

We hosted our friends anniversary party here and the staff was attentive, the drinks were plentiful, and we were able to have the whole patio area for our group. The music was awesome and our server Sam, although serving 30+ people, made us feel special and never wanting for more. Needless to say but the appetizers are great and go well with this extensive cocktail list. We cannot wait to come back! Highly recommend this space if you need a venue for a large or small group party. The space is excellent!

I can’t sing… but I will. DTM is fun, with enough drinks in ya. There’s two types of performers at Mama, 1) the waitstaff; and 2) the patrons. All of the waitstaff are excellent singers, like from a Broadway play. Me, on the other hand, let’s just say that karaōke is about having a good time, not about singing well. I don’t know most of the songs in the playbook. I think that there’s a lot of songs from musicals or plays. Showtunes in WeHo!!! Who woulda thunk. It’s not like karaōke where there is a video screen with the words on it. You have to either know the lyrics to the song or you can look them up on your phone. Pro Tip: turn your phone on its side so that the words are bigger. All the staff are super nice and the pianists(I hate that word) are friendly and make you feel comfortable getting up there and belting out a tune.

I was at Mama’s on Tuesday night and had a blast! They are doing this series called Tempo Tuesdays, where they have new artist playing and is hosted by a duo called Josh and Dug. They were very entertaining and sang some great original tunes! The wine was pretty good and the staff was fantastic!

Let start with the Five star for the amazing talents this place had though out the night. minus 1 star for the mediocre Calamari and less flavorful wings. minus another star for the Shrimp Scampi that was really hard to swallow, literally. minus another star for our server that disappear after we order dinner(we had a party of 6) minus another star for having to look around 30 minutes to get our check(the Cabaret show was over at 10 and we sat at 7:30) Minus another star for waiting another 30 minuted to pay and eventually have to get up and chase her down from another part of the restaurant so we can leave. that doesn’t leave any star left but 1 is the lowest allowed on here The total was $ 357.52 + charged tip? $$ 65.60 = $ 423.12 night of MEH!

This review is not on the food or restaurant, but on the piano bar experience that lured us here. Ambiance is half the restaurant/bar battle and I think they lost this one. It’s unfortunate that this promising restaurant/lounge took over the space of the former O-Bar, which was a classy and romantic place for dinner with some live music, then a trendy WeHo bar later at night. Unfortunate because my first impression of this place at 11PM on a Saturday night is that it had no charm, no appeal, no class and no style. All of that was stripped away when they created Don’t Tell Mama. The crowd was very mixed, to the point that we didn’t think we were in West Hollywood. Not an issue, just an observation. There were about 50 or so people, which sounds like a lot, but it still seemed like a slow night for such a large space. The music was pretty good. The pianist was talented and the wait staff doubled as singers who got up on stage to perform or served drinks while harmonizing with a wireless mic throughout the bar. They were exceptionally good. Patrons can make requests and may also sing songs on stage. Drinks were well-mixed and moderately priced, with a Jack and Coke at $ 8 and a Side Car at $ 9. They have a menu of specialty drinks for $ 12 to $ 13. The late-night food options were abysmal. We didn’t try anything because the items didn’t sound appetizing and the descriptions were lacking. Also, everything was overpriced for bar food. I doubt I would ever come back here. I didn’t get the cozy, old school piano bar experience I was hoping for and it didn’t look like a restaurant I would enjoy. It’s too bad. Maybe the next restaurant that takes over this space will do better.

What a huge disappointment! The food was Just not good, the staff was more casual than a mom n pop fast food joint, and as far as entertainment… well just because you know the words and melody that doesn’t make you a singer. From the rubbery odd shrimp to it’s replacement pizza we could hard call that a restaurant. One good quality was there wine selection. So sad that this concept can not be carried off better in a city with such great talent and amazing chefs. Sorry… please Do not tell mama to go.

Don’t Tell Mama, a cabaret-style restaurant/lounge/Piano bar originally from NYC had a lot to prove after opening the doors to it’s new west coast location. Any restaurant opening up in West Hollywood is bound to fall under the scrutiny of the town’s bitchy denziens. We’re a picky bunch, as Unilocal can attest to. I think a good hard and fast rule is never judge a restaurant too harshly during it’s first month(or three). There are always some bugs to work out, so just cut these places some slack. If you’re going to be that particular, just wait til the place has got it’s shit together before going and slandering them online. I came here last Friday night with a small group of friends. We came early for dinner, sat at a really nice booth up front by the piano with a super attentive and friendly waitress and had the best time. We stayed for about 3 hours, I would say. I rarely stay anywhere that long. DTM is a really fun, neighborhood spot where the food is good and the piano keys never grow cold. In between a mixture of Broadway and classic Elton John, the waitress would come up and sing a fun Disney tune or one of the patrons(such as ourselves) would request something off the wall, such as A-Ha’s «Take on Me» from the enormous songbook being passed around. FOODHIGHLIGHTS: the Lobster Mac and Cheese, the DTM Pizza and the Filet Mignon. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Chicken Piccata(a bit oily). The specialty cocktails were very straightforward yet nicely presented however, a little mixology(oy, that word) would have been fun too. Something spicy, something herby, something bitter perhaps. Too many vodka drinks which Hamburger Mary’s across the street has covered. But it’s a new joint, folks. Give it some time to warm up. Let’s see what they have coming up in the second act.

I came here recently with some friends to have a drink and ended up ordering a few dishes to share. Lobster lasagna was rich and amazing. I will def be coming back for this. The place overall had nice vibe and live music is a huge plus! I am considering having a birthday party here as the place is great for large groups. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because parking on Santa Monica is a pain in the a**. Aside from the parking situation, there needs to be more places in LA/Weho like this. Def a must try!

I really didn’t want to believe the Unilocal reviews, and so I had my birthday party there anyway, hoping that the negative reviews were just from spiteful people, but unfortunately, it was just a very disappointing evening. Also, I should note that I sent a long email to the manager, Keith, over a week ago and never heard back from him, so now I’m going public. Firstly, I completely understand the mix-up that occurred that night. It was certainly a major coincidence that two different Rebecca’s scheduled birthday parties for that night. The manager did, however, have my full name, my e-mail address, and my phone number, and might have noticed when any of those three things didn’t match up to the other party’s request. Also, having an employee named Rebecca might have been confusing as well, but it was certainly odd and uncomfortable to receive a phone call on the day of my party asking me if I could WORK the next night. Unfortunately, the mix-up wasn’t handled well — the booths they had told me weeks prior would be reserved for my party went to the other party, and when they told me they would reserve 30 seats in the bar area for me, that ended up not happening either as nearly half of the bar area had been seated with other patrons. It was only rectified one hour into my party, when we were moved to the back area behind the piano. Other than that, I will say that the food was really disappointing. When I visited the facility a month ago, I was introduced to the chef and told he was a former Four Seasons chef, so I expected the food to be very good. Instead, my short ribs were flavorless, and the lobster mac n’ cheese, which several of my friends ordered(one at dinner, one at the bar) was fishy(in a bad way) and oddly sweet. My sister’s Carbonara pasta was WAY too salty. My friends were so disappointed with the bar food, that they left my party to go get food at another nearby establishment. Finally, while the music was enjoyable for the most part, the sound system is very amateur for a piano bar. The music was very loud near the piano and almost impossible to hear in the restaurant area, as the voices were so muffled. Also, the policy of allowing patrons to come up and sing feels very karaōke and since they are un-vetted, there’s no way to know if they will be great or terrible, as some of them were. We liked that the cocktail waitresses and bartenders sang while they worked — that was cute, and much more enjoyable than listening to patrons sing songs they don’t know very well. However, when I spoke to the management in March, they mentioned the staff sang mostly Broadway showtunes, and instead nearly 2⁄3 of the songs were pop or jazz. All in all, we did end up having a good time, but I was really hoping that the Unilocal reviews weren’t true. Nearly all of the 1-star reviews have been filtered out, but after reading them, I had reservations about going forward with my party. It turns out that nearly every one of the things complained about in those reviews came true(issues with seating, bad/bland food, bad/loud singing, rudeness of the hostess, etc.), which was so disappointing. I hope that DTM can listen to this feedback with an open mind so that the experience might be better for others down the line. My friends and I are hoping to return, but we’ll likely wait a few months until they can rectify some of these issues.
