Love this place! Whenever craving Indonesian fried chicken, this is the place that I’ll go to. I’d say it’s pretty authentic, and the people are super nice. Favorite items on the menu: — ayam kremes, which is fried chicken with these magical crunchy crumbs on top of them. — Tumis Kangkung: Ong Choy dish– super good and yummy veggies! — Ampela goreng– fried gizzards. What can I say, sometimes I need those unhealthy fix :) Oh and try the desserts too! Indonesian desserts are typically very sweet and refreshing, I would recommend the Es Cendol!

Updated Review This great Indonesian restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. So far impressed with different varieties of nasi goreng(fried rice), ayam goreng(chicken), soto(soup), nasi bungkus and sate. For sure, I will keep coming back to try other dishes. :)

May 21, 2016 Came here after my visit to the doctors. Not sure of what I wanted to eat, we ended up here. Thinking that this is probably a good place for some chicken, we sat down and ordered. I got their #1, which everyone on Unilocal suggested. to my very honest opinion, the chicken was immensely salty. Their drinks are mostly made from packaged powder and it’s honestly not to my taste. If you ordered the chicken breast, it wasn’t so salty. However, if it’s not the breast portion, it’s extremely salty. I drank so much water, it was ridiculous. The only part of my meal that I enjoyed was the fried thing on top of my chicken. I am NOT a fan of super fried foods, but I enjoyed that layer of crunch because it went well with my side of rice. It seasoned my rice. I literally just wanted to eat the fried part with my rice only. Overall, meh.

First time trying Indonesian food here with hubby. We ordered fried stink bean, nasi bungkus, fried chicken and rose soda. This was my first time trying stink bean, it was unique and tasted like a nutty stinky tofu. I liked it but hubby could not stand it. The nasi bungkus was ok because the beef was too chewy and not tender. Hubby liked the fried chicken, but I am not a fan. Rose soda… tasted like bubble gum flavor. Overall the food was not that good or flavorful. We will still come back for their chicken and to try something else.

Omg their chicken. There have many times we have gone and the owner/manager said they ran out. What were we to do!!! Walk out and try anything day. That’s right, their crack chicken is the real deal. Crispy, sweet, slight tang(more tang with lime if you want), savory. Meat is juicy and comes right off moist like someone lathered lotion into those things over night. I’m salivating thinking about it. Maybe hungry … need to go later this week. See you there.

My experience here was a big flop! Moved to this area 3 months ago, and I pass this place all the time. I see the reviews with 4 stars and I’m thinking«man I need to try this place». I finally convince my husband to try, and we literally drove on the wrong side of the street for ½ a block, cuz of the crazy construction that was going on this week. I wish I had just drove on… bye, bye! I have never eaten Indonesian food, but I’m pretty sure the meat(stewed beef) isn’t spreadable with a butter knife(such an off putting consistency) and fried chicken(their signature dish) isn’t supposed to be served this dry(right?). On top of that, he got 2 of my orders wrong… One of the orders being #33 the(Lontong Chap go meh) and he gave me #32 the(Lasi Gudeg) this particular dish came with something they called pork rind stew, OMG, WTH, that was so awful! It was like a soggy, breaky, void of any flavor, sponge. Not that I would want sponge to have flavor or that I’ve ever eaten sponge before, but this is what I would imagine it to be like, yuck! Needless to say, when he came and asked if we needed anything else, I asked him to take that plate away, it was so obvious that I didn’t, and couldn’t, eat it. He didn’t even flinch… almost like he was just glad to get some sucker to pay for that dish…(me). Also, I ordered one of each of the appetizers,(because I love fried things) and the only thing I could stomach was the fried pork fish ball. The sticky rice stuffed with whatever that was, was not good. The fried? Pastry? Had like a gummy inside with carrots and peas, NTY. They have this thing called Martabak Telor, it’s described as a crape, but is a big overcooked scrabbled egg with onion and ground beef. That’s a very ambitious discription for such a unaspiring dish. But, the Sam-bal, I must say, was very good, I bought one container to take home, but wow, it ain’t cheep. Too small for $ 7.

This small family owned Indonesian restaurant is a hidden gem! I drove into the tofu pot plaza and wanted to try new things since I have never tried Indonesian food before. I ordered 4 items: their house fried chicken, fried rice, water spinach, and the martabak telor. All delicious(on the salty side) and very flavorful.

Not too sure what Indonesian food is all about, but if it tastes like what I just ate, then I am in love. What I ate: 1) Ayam Goreng Kremesan 2) Ayam Penyet 3) Nasi Bungkus Why you should too: The chicken meat fell right off the bones with minimal effort… a sign of really good cooking techniques and quality. The skin had a very nice crispy bite to it, and the crunchy crumbs«kremesan» toppings were a nice addition to the overall flavor and crunchiness. Also need to mention the homemade spicy shrimp paste chili sauce the chicken gets served with… amazing. Why my review should hold more weight than others simply reviewing… I LOVEFOOD. Lol. I am a nut when it comes to eating amazing food. I RARELY give places five stars… if I do, then that also means not only was food AMAZING, but service was just as great. For a «family owned and operated» style of restaurant, they are super nice and really attentive. Fantastic.

Merry’s House of Chicken is aptly named, their fried chicken is so Delicious! I’m a fan of Indonesian food. Their food is so flavorful and delicious my taste buds are doing the cha cha as I indulge. It’s my first time here at Merry’s(they’re a bit too far for me), but this time around we made time to come by. It’s a small restaurant with a side condiment and snack station area by the register. Nothing special as to the décor, but I’m here to eat, not to look at the walls. Lol Here’s the rundown: Bakso Goreng — Fried Fish-Pork Ball. They’re big, almost baseball size big. It’s on the chewy side(not a bad thing) and you can really taste the fish(not so much the pork) it came with it’s own hot sauce which enhanced the taste. This dish was just okay as a starter for me. Ayam Goreng Kremesan — House Specialty(Fried Chicken, the BOMB!) wow, Wow, WOW! Crunchy skin, fall off the bone tender and super flavorful. DELICIOUS. It came with some crunchy bits as topping, but it didn’t need them. The chicken was on the small side, but half a chicken should be good enough for one person. Get this one! Nasi Goreng Ikan Asin — Salted Fish Fried Rice. It was just okay. For a salted fish dish, it wasn’t salty. Lol. They didn’t put a lot of salted fish which was a bummer. The few I tasted worked well with the fried rice. Rawon Buntut — Rawon Oxtail Soup(Dark) — Very good. I love the broth with its subtle flavoring. The oxtail was very tender and yummy. Not a lot of oxtail, but fair for the price. Nasi Bungkus«White rice with chicken curry, beef rendang, spicy egg balado and vegetables in curry sauce» this is wrapped in banana leaves, presentation wise it’s good. Once you open it, all the curry and spices hits you, yum. I talked to the owner /manager and he asked me if I’d have Nasi Bungkus before and I have. He said each restaurant has a different version depending on where they are from. He said this is the version from Java(Indonesian Island). Their version is more curry centered. Although I liked the one their competitor serves better, this was no slouch either. I love the spiciness and definitely the curry they used. I would have no problem ordering this dish again. YUM! I really liked the Sweet soy sauce condiment they had and asked if they sold it and yes they did. Yes! It’s good with the fried chicken and I’ve already used it for other items I recently cooked =) Service was fast and very friendly. The food was good here(3 Stars), but that fried chicken was the star of star(5 star plus) now I understand why this is the«House of Chicken» 2015 Review #90

The day I can properly pronounce all this delicious food will be the day I don’t have sheepishly stay quiet while my Indonesian friend orders, but for now all I have to do is eat! We ordered the mie pangsit(noodles with meat, veggies, and the soup base on the side) and ayam goreng kremesan which is the famous fried chicken with the little fried bits on top. Noodles had a nice texture and felt very homey because of the mild broth and simple veggies and meat. Fried chicken was extremely tender with a crispy, seasoned outside. The kremesan on top was really good, almost resembling clumped panko that is fried or just the little fried bits off of fried chicken. Would love to try everything else on their menu! Servers were very friendly and the restaurant is clean and spacious. Food is cheap and delicious and you can go get some boba drinks next door after too. OR you can try one of many of the delicious dessert drinks they offer!

tip: hidden gem in an otherwise unassuming plaza with other ethnic shops like boba and filipino stores. No restrooms in store and $ 10 minimum on credit cards. Nasi kuning number 28 at around $ 8 is fair price but the food is very unique. Yellow rice was very fragrant. Fried chicken was very tender and goes well with the sticky sweet soy sauce provided on the table. Curry boiled egg was good with the sweet red chili sauce. Sauce is super spicy. Beef rendang was also tender. Fried potato/taro ball was actually pretty good and not at all oily. Entire plate was good portioned. I wouldn’t say they are 100% Indonesian. Some items are mixed in with Malaysian. They are known for the grilled chicken. Small café type place. Also have noodles rice dishes and shaved ice desserts.

I’ve never had Indonesian food before so thanks to Merry’s House of Chicken for popping my cherry. They’re not as ubiquitous as Thai and Chinese restaurants in the Greater Los Angeles area but they don’t stray too far from these cuisines in terms of flavor and cooking. Malaysian cuisine, included. Nasi Goreng($ 6.99) meaning«fried rice» is probably the most popular dish they have. It’s cooked rice seasoned with sweet soy sauce and it has egg noodles, chicken, and slices of boiled egg. It may be a meal on its own but I prefer eating this with their house specialty fried chicken known to them as Ayam Goreng Kremesan(whole $ 6.99). With golden crisp skin, juicy white meat, and then topped with some sort of fried breadcrumbs, it’s a mouthful of finger-licking good chicken. I believe this is their best seller here and for good reason. It comes with a dip but I prefer pairing this with their table hot sauce. Try it, you’ll see. For veggies we went with Cah Kangkung Tauco($ 6.99) which is sauteed water spinach in garlic. It was good but could be better with more garlic. Can’t pass on noodles so KweTiauw Goreng($ 7.50) was the unanimous choice. Think, pad see ew. Flat rice noodles stir fried in soy sauce with bean sprouts, eggs, and the works. I prefer the Thai version’s boldness in flavor over this but that’s just me. Everyone else on the table enjoyed this a lot. We shared everything family style between four people but doubled up on the nasi goreng. The amount of food was sufficient(no leftovers) and we left full and satisfied without breaking the bank. I’m all for family-run businesses and theirs is exactly that. Genuine kindness was what we felt from the owner making us feel right at home. I’m a fan! P. S. Check out their corner of Indonesian goodies. We ended up buying two cans of chocolate banana wafers after having sampled some for free.

Wanted to try something different and off the beaten path. This was a small place located in a strip mall with lots of small restaurants. I decided on the oxtail in a dark broth. The Oxtail came with rice on the side. The meat was very tender and the server said it was a popular dish. The only drawback with this dish is that there were no veggies or anything else for that matter. Just the rice, dark broth and oxtail. It was good, just not all that filling. I would be back to try something else for sure.

This may be my first time eating authentic Indonesian food and I can say it was pretty delicious! This restaurant is located in a busy plaza with many other Asian cuisines to choose from. Since Mr. 626 knows what to order, we let him do the honors of choosing what to eat and it sure didn’t disappoint! The food consisted of a whole fried chicken with a side of chili sauce and lime, a rice dish wrapped in bamboo leaves, a crêpe filled with meat, onions and egg, ox tail soup and a vegetable dish. Coming here on a weekday night for dinner, it was not packed at all though parking will be a challenge since it shares the same square with other restaurants. I also ordered a Thai ice tea which was very good, I recommend getting one. Prices are also reasonable as well. The food came out fairly quick and even though there was only one person in charge in the front of the house the service was still very quick and efficient. Thank goodness the spicy sauce was served on the side instead of cooking with the chicken because it was very spicy! This coming from a person who cannot handle spicy food that well so be warned! There is also a milder version which is an orange color that I didn’t get a chance to try because I was still trying to recover from the chili sauce. Other than that everything else was yummy and I wish I had a larger stomach to fit everything! CC out!

Surprisingly Delicious Had lunch here and it was a great choice. The chicken was awesome. We also ordered the noodle wonton, veggies, and tofu. Food came out quite quickly and all the food was well made and tasty. The price is reasonable. For our party of three, we ordered a quite a few items and turned out to be $ 36 total bill. Server was friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience. Place is cozy small but it was really comfortable. Would definitely come back again.
