My first Paddle Board Race was during the 7th year of this annual event. Thankful this race was my first. The Cape Story Race is top-notch! Bill House and friends have taken the time to make something really special for nearly every type of man powered water sport craft. If you’re an athlete you’re going to enjoy this event because the heats range from the hard core to the beginner. For those of you who are normally lake paddlers you’ll find paddling on the ocean adds a layer of difficulty, and increases the workout. Most important is the level of safety and coordination that goes into this. Plenty of safety boats, radio comms and such keep it a fun event. Races: Serous competitors you’ll enjoy the longer racers(i.e 8mi or more). Other races run from 2mi, 4mi, etc. so there’s something for everyone. If you’re not a contestant there’s still plenty of enjoyment to be had… especially from the outer bar-restaurant area of Pier Café(they rock too). It’s not at the level of the Marine Corps Marathon or Iron Man(yet) so I’ll reserve the final star for the years to come.
