This restaurant is a disappointment. I actually like the eight piece in Lake Zürich, but this one falls far short. The roles are OK but overpriced. They have an odd menu item called rice bowls that you would think is bibimbap but it isn’t. Service is Meh. Restaurant was dirty and employees didn’t really seem to care. Disappointing.

Meh. This is the McDonaldization of sushi. Unfortunately, sushi is more than slapped a few key ingredients together to make a meal. I did not care for the salient lackadaisy in the staff. The salads were overpriced. Surprisingly, the ginger dressing was broken. So they topped raw fish with broken mixture of cream/water. Disgusting.

This is terrible! Rice is not cooked right and one skinny and small role cost almost $ 9! With this price, you can get much better and bigger potion of real sushi at any other Japanese restaurant. I will never come back again!

Alright, I have had sushi only a few times and it was always disappointing to me. But this place has tasty sushi at a reasonable price. I had the rock n roll sushi and I was amazed at how flavorful each but was. The down side is I couldn’t get enough. Lol!

Disappointing. Sparse portions, with the rolls primarily consisting of rice. Very cheap, but not much better than the sushi you can buy at the grocery store.

It’s a solid sushi roll for a decent price. Don’t expect it to the best sushi you ever had or have it be on par with a nice sit down. Their rolls are big and tasty. Yes there is a lot of rice and the pieces of fish are on the small side, but overall it’s filling. I’ve only been here once but I plan on going back next time I want some sushi during lunch

Oh, boy. Where to start. For context, I just came back from Vancouver, where they do economy sushi right. We’re talking $ 2 rolls at decent level of quality — better, at least, than anything I’ve had here at four or five times the price, and I’ve been to Eight Piece multiple times over the past few years so I think I’ve given it a fair shake. I see Eight Piece as an attempt to do «Chipotle for sushi,» but I don’t think they pulled it off successfully. Unlike Chipotle, it’s not cheap or even particularly fast. Unlike most sushi places, it uses disappointingly low quality ingredients. My favorite part of the spicy daikon bowl that I got was the raw spinach. Everything else made me feel somewhat ill, a privilege I earned by handing them $ 12. In short, it’s bad and confusingly expensive food. I just returned from my latest and most likely final attempt to eat there and the food is still sitting in a clump in my stomach. I can feel it resisting my best attempts at digestion. I’m going to try to drown it in some sort of tea, which for some reason Eight Piece doesn’t serve. At this point, is it even a sushi restaurant? I have found everything about the restaurant awkward, inauthentic, and poorly done over the course of the last half decade or so. And the worst part is that they haven’t improved! But, judging by the other reviews, they have found their niche. I just know I won’t be coming back again. PS, I’ve lost my faith in Unilocal reviews for sushi in the midwest. Y’all need to eat some real sushi. PPS, Uh oh. The Eight Piece food in my stomach is rebelling. I’m going to go drown it with some green tea. Wish me luck.

I don’t expect much authenticity from the suburbs of Vernon Hills, but this place really has to take the cake. I know they’re working with some limitations, but it would have been nice if ¾ of their menu wasn’t some sort of variation centered on the California roll. In a nod to their creative effort, however, they do serve something I’ve never seen before: sushi roll bowls. Now that’s a new one. I think the idea is like Chipotle, where they throw in the rice as a base and all the other ingredients that come with the sushi roll and it comes out as a nice mixed bowl, but sushi rice is way too thick to be mixed, so it ends up being a very messy and deconstructed version of the roll… It’s filling enough, that’s for sure, but it’s not particularly great to eat.

I rushed over here before a movie to grab a quick bite on the run. I skimmed the menu even though I already knew what I wanted. I got two spicy tuna hand rolls and a Philly roll with a topping(the spicy tuna one, can’t remember the name for it). The woman taking the order was very pleasant and friendly, even humoring me when my friend called me a few times while trying to order.(I hate being on the phone when ordering or paying for something, I think it’s rude so I try hard not to do it!) The handroll are 4 dollars each which is nice compared to other regular dine in places can sell handrolls for more. I was waiting for my order and I can’t be SURE but I saw something that kind of urked me. After the nice woman took my payment she started helping the Sushi chef with a previous take out order, I really don’t remember seeing her wash her hands before helping. She started using her hands(ungloved) to press wasabi onto the sides of the to go containers and handling the chop sticks(these chopsticks looked like semipermanent utensils that they would use for the day then throw out, not ones they would throw out after one use!) to place the ginger in them as well. That’s kind of a big deal. After my food was ready I left and began eating on the run. The spicy tuna handrolls were just okay, I prefer the ones with more mayo base, smelt a bit fishy and I tasted a lot of heat which is nice but the fish had little flavor. The philly was okay, even though the topping of the spicy tuna on it was overpowering the taste of the whole roll, I’ll know that for next time. I would probably go back to try something new if I’m in a hurry and need a quick sushi fix!

Not good, period. It should be more like 2.5 stars. Mercy points because the owner is so cute. Free soup on Tuesdays and Free Edamame on Thursdays. Cheapest rolls are $ 8, then it goes up to around $ 13. If you want to turn it into a bowl, it is $ 10.50. This is where I don’t like it, this place is pretty much a chipotle for sushi, however, at any other place, if you ask to have your food in a different presentation with the same ingredients, they wouldn’t charge more, but not the case here. And it’s significantly more. The free soup is no good. I ordered the rock and roll, it is the soggiest piece of spicy tuna roll I’ve ever had. Why is it drenched in soy sauce? I think if you but this and try to eat it later it would just be completely ruined. I bought it and ate it immediately and it was still very bad. No flavor, poorly executed. You can go to Mariano’s to get sushi for $ 7.50 for 6 pieces, the pieces are not as big but I prefer quality over this place. Heck, my company’s cafeteria served by Aramark even has better sushi than this place, and that’s pretty sad. Please just go to a legit Japanese restaurant if you want good sushi, not a place that looks more like a froyo place. Plenty of 4 star sushi places in the area rated on Unilocal, try Osaka in Mundelein on S. Butterfield.

The people there are always friendly and sweet — It’s also fun to watch the person make your sushi in front of you. It’s very clean inside and it’s a great place to go when you’re craving sushi(not sashimi but more rolls). You have many options to make it however you want. The flower mix topping is delicious and very flavorful. However it’s actually quite expensive if you think about it. We ordered two sets of rolls. Mine barely had any salmon in it. It was more packed with a large piece of avocado to make up for the space in the roll. The total came out to be $ 20. If you want real sushi is recommend going to sushi kushi or Koya for good authentic sushi and the price is pretty much the same for better. This place is still good though so 4 stars.

Please read the full review to better understand why im rating this restaurant a 4 star, because its NOT the best sushi but it does deserve 4 stars(maybe even 5)! Most reviews compare it to amazing sit down sushi places, but its more of «fast food» sushi than a nice fine dining. Location & Ambiance: Eight Piece is located in a little strip of food places near Adlai. E Stevenson High School so it attracts students due to its connivance, modern ambiance, and lower prices. The ambiance is very modern, and upon going there for the first time I thought it was similar to a sushi version of Chipotle. Food: Heres where you need to remember this isn’t your 153 Akari, Kona Grill, or any other fine dining sushi place. Their are only 4 tables in the entire shop! Its meant to be quick and easy sushi. With this in mind for about 8 dollars you can get nearly any roll, and their vast menu of options allows for you to build your own roll or order from their selection of already picked rolls. Just remember that not all combinations taste good, so you may be better off sticking to their recommended rolls. I usually get a specialty roll, and a miso soup. The total with tax comes out to $ 10.27 every time, so its relatively cheap for what you get, and its definitely quick! Drinks & Desserts: Their are no desserts offered at Eight Piece, but there is a good froyo shop down the street within walking distance. Also note their drinks are a little lacking and thats the reason for my 4 of 5 star rating. I would like to see come imported drinks instead of just your regular American Coke, Diet Coke, and Pepsi. Especially because its such a modern feeling restaurant. Add some new drinks and I would change my review to 5 of 5 stars, because it really needs something unique! Service & Staff: Always quick, and always very nice! Not as great as a sit down restaurant’s service, but the staff is always very nice(Thank you as you leave, and hello as you come in. Simple things like that add to this section of the review). Overall, Eight Piece is a great place to go get sushi on the go! Just know going in its not as good of sushi as a sushi bar or a sit down sushi restaurant. Its a quality roll, but nothing near the best I have ever had!

I picked up a couple of rolls to go yesterday and carried them over to the Beer Market. I had no idea this place was even here. I walked in, and I felt like I was walking into some futuristic restaurant from a movie. The place is entirely white. On the wall behind the counter are 4 tv screens that have the menu on them. When you walk in you get the faint scent of fresh fish which is just enough to know that it is fresh fish without being overpowering. This was my 1st trip, and I just ordered a plain california roll and spicy tuna roll. Little did I know that they offer a variety of toppings and sauces for your rolls. I was totally unprepared to decide what toppings I wanted. It didn’t help that I couldn’t understand a single word the lady working the register was saying. The two sushi chefs were quickly and artfully spreading rice over seaweed paper and adding the delicious fillings. They don’t mess around either they fill up the rolls to the size of a half dollar. They ask you if you want wasabi and ginger which I did, and each roll comes with a small container of soy sauce which was enough for me. My friend ordered their crab and shrimp crunch roll which included shrimp and avocado spread across the top of the roll then topped with spicy mayo. It looked pretty delicious as well. I can’t wait to go back with a little more preparation for all of the options. The sushi was delicious, and I imagine the extra toppings and sauces sound like they would add to the experience. While $ 8 a roll is a bit steep, the sushi was tasty.

I’m a horrible human being because I’m not on board with Eight Piece as everyone else seems to be — eek! I picked up some rolls this evening for dinner as I was intrigued with the place. Honestly, it’s a great concept. I love the idea of getting to pick your own ingredients and the rolls are quite large indeed, but let me break down my experience for you. The shop is in a strip mall and it’s a super cute quick service sushi joint. It’s sparkling clean, well organized, the process of ordering is well laid out, the workers are friendly beyond words and helpful. Extra bonus points for having some tables outside for dining. Now here’s my painful part… I was not blown away by the food. I ordered the pre-selected ingredients that come in the Philly Crunch Roll — It’s a Philly Roll with masago, tempura flakes and teriyaki sauce for $ 8. I love the ingredients in this but sadly it was mostly rice. Seriously just slivers of avocado, fish and cream cheese… there was a boatload of tempura crumbs on the outside though and quite a bit of masago. I was quite disappointed in the rice roll as I didn’t taste much of any avocado, fish or cream cheese. I also got tuna & avocado hand roll which was a-ok. This had much more fish & was half the price so I may just stick to the hand rolls next time. I say next time loosely because I probably won’t be going back. You do get 10% off through Unilocal when you check-in though! I would say give Eight Piece a try and judge for yourself.

I came here for the first time a few days ago! I was greeted but a friendly faces. The customer service was fantastic from start to finish. I ordered the Philly Crunch Roll(philadelphia roll with masago, tempura flakes and teriyaki sauce) and Crab ‘n’ Shrimp Crunch Roll(crunchy crab roll with shrimp, avocado and spicy mayonnaise sauce). I thought the Philly Crunch Roll was delicious and the Crab ‘n’ Shrimp Roll I was not a fan off. There was a little too much spicy mayo sauce on there for my liking(maybe I’m a wimp). I can’t wait to come back and try other rolls! P. S. If you you’re coming here for the first time make sure you check in! You get 10% off your first order! SOLD!

I was not sure what to expect from this place. It is a fast food sushi place, so it cannot possible be good right… WRONG! I was really curious about this place because I liked the premise that you can create your own specialty roll. Pick the inside, toppings and sauce. For a large 8 piece roll, you pay only $ 8. Please keep in mind that the 5 star rating is for a fast food sushi place, so don’t expect anything too classy. The service here was friendly and they were quick to explain how everything worked for us newbies. We saw that there was a special meal deal where you can add on a miso soup and a drink for only two dollars more. We went for it. I really like the soup… it was a big portion just like the sushi rolls. I was impressed by the quality of the sushi as well. The interior of this place is empty looking and not too comfortable, so I think I will stick to carry out in the future… or have them bring it over to Beer Market. They also have a 10% off Unilocal check in deal on your first visit!
