I have come here at least 25 times over the years. The buffet isn’t very good, but the menu items have always been good. We generally do take out, so the drab, run down interior doesn’t bother me. We don’t have many Chinese options in this part of town. They will make special dishes for you and reduce the oil upon request. The Hot and Sour Soup is pretty good. I generally order chicken with garlic sauce and either garlic string beans or garlic broccoli. I don’t eat the deep fried stuff or rice. I used to enjoy their pork lomein, but I gave up the carbs.

Years ago we stopped going to the dragonking after visiting the the place across the street from them(I won’t say the name of the joint!). A few months ago we decided to give it another go because to be honest we couldn’t remember why we stopped going. We had the buffet and all was good, everything was fresh. So we decided to try take out and did so twice and all was good. Then we called in our order on Tuesday evening and we remembered why we stopped goig there. In my order I had pork chow mein and they didn’t put any of the crunchy noodles that go under the chow mein into the bag. But none of that mattered because not only was their food bland, when I looked at it I realized the pork was a gray-ish green color. The sweet and sour spareribs were tastless and the sauce was watered down. Now we remembered.

Eh. And that is seriously the best thing I can think of. The staff was friendly, but all they really have at lunch is a buffet, and as we all know a standard buffet at a Chinese restaurant is not very good. The food was bland, and somewhat dried out… like it maybe wasnt the first day on the table, if you know what I mean? The soup was good, though. The place wasnt very busy at all… and when I used the bathroom I kind of seen why. This place is fueled by the bar… 1pm on a Monday afternoon and while the dining room was scarcely populated the bar was hopping! Probably wont go out of our way to try this one out, again…

We’ve been going to the Dragon King restaurant for years; it is a neighborhood kind of a place. But today was the last time we’ll go there. The inside is getting shabby and could use some care. Normally they offer a pretty good buffet with a good variety. But today some of the dishes were actually so cold, I got up to tell the woman refilling the trays. The trays had small amounts and some were empty. Nothing looked very colorful or appetizing. We grazed enough to feel we had a meal and then left. When we were paying, the cashier asked if everything was okay and I told her the dishes were not fresh and some were cold. She went on to explain that during the time we were having our late l lunch, they were changing the trays from lunch to dinner. She said that we didn’t come at the right time to have things fresh from the buffet line. I told her that it was not feasible for her customers to second guess when to come in at a time when the food was fresh. If you are open for business, the customers expects good, fresh food. She said if we wanted our items fresh, we should order from the menu. She continued to argue and repeat herself over and over. We left and will never go back… neither should you!

Really disappointed. I didn’t do the Buffet. Chose a combination dinner from the menu. Service was good, but food was bland and almost tasteless. The roast pork was cold. I won’t be going back.

I have 99% of the time ordered their Daily Special, substituting whatever suits me for the subgum chicken. Amazingly large portions, enough for two or three meals. Never have been disappointed in this item on their menu. Have not ordered anything else. The buffet is closer to one star though. The food, I think, sits too long and dries out. Always recommend this place to people, just not the buffet.

Super cheap and awesome! I could’t find such a nice buffet anywhere in bay area for 2 years, but in Portland without much effort found an amazing buffet!

Good happy hour and good priced drinks. Good food but a lil spendy. I’ve only been in the bar side and it’s dark, quiet with color lights.

On a friend’s recommendation went here for the lunch buffet instead of Canton for the first time about half a year ago. Since then have been back 6 more times to zero for Canton. The reason is the things I really like(prob eat close to my money’s worth in bbq pork alone) I prefer at Dragon. The Hot N Sour soup is by far better, the bbq pork is much better; the egg rolls, and shrimp for dipping into the sweet n sour sauce, and quality of the ice cream are a little better at Dragon. I think Canton’s entrée dishes are a little better than Dragon with it seems a little more variety; so depending on what you prefer in my opinion you can’t go wrong either way.

Came here at 10pm so naturally the buffet was closed, which is fine, just letting you know we ordered from the menu. We ordered garlic vegetables that came with rice. Pros: *Nice staff *Generous amount of food *Open late *Has full bar and also an actual bar in the back Cons: *Practically tasteless food *Suspicious tea with a dirty tea pot(don’t look inside) *The waitress didn’t know much about the menu *Staff didn’t know what’s in their food, so if you’re allergic to anything, be careful… It’s not certain *Not worth the money in my opinion *Cluttered looking front of the house We were looking for something that’s open late and has vegetarian/vegan options. Won’t be back, sorry.

For the life of me I cannot understand why the Canton Buffet has more cars parked there most of the time. This place is right across the street and is far better! The people were nice and the inside is nice and clean. There is a bar down a hall and in the back that was busy with Monday night football. I really like their General tso’s chicken and the salt and pepper calamari. Sure, you could tell that some of the food had been sitting out for a bit, but it was still good and not hard or mushy. I can only imagine how amazing it would be with the food turnover they would have if people came here like they should. They even have egg foo young with gravy and sushi in their buffet. You are also given a nice hot pot of tea. I was also really surprised with their dessert selection… rice crispy treats, brownies, slivers of cheesecake and pumpkin pie along with your standard jello and soft serve ice cream. I found that I nearly finished everything on my plate which is rare for me at a buffet. We also drank our whole pot of tea.

My first time here and I was impressed. The portions were huge, the food was decent, our waitress was nice, and the atmosphere pleasant. Next time I would like to try the buffet as I ordered off the menu this time.

I ate at the buffet and it tasted pretty bad. Food was really dry and bland. Was a real disappointment.

I would give it a 4 for food and a 5 for service. I would give it a 2 for atmosphere and a 1 for cleanliness of the restrooms.

I ordered carry out and was very disappointed in the food. The chicken was not fresh in my experience and the fried rise was mushy. The pork was riddled with gristle. The egg roll was greasy. Don’t waste your time with this restaurant.

We drop in this restaurant about 6 times a year. The buffet strikes us as overpriced, so we stick to the menu items, knowing they will be made fresh to order. The cashew chicken is quite good, as is the curry shrimp. The veggies are always crisp and tasty. As many have noted, the décor is a bit of a throwback, but the food is what keeps us coming back. Service was attentive tonight, the young man waiting on us was polite and helpful. We always order too many dishes, so have leftovers for several days to come.

We go in the bar all the time. They pour the best shot in town… guaranteed. One shot and a beer fixes me fine, and two is all I’ve ever needed! They also have excellent(and cheap) bar appetizers and hard working bartenders. It’s such a good value that you’ll feel ripped off when you go anywhere else.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. I’m 28 now. The owners changed over sometime in the past but can’t remember when. Think was a fire at one point. Anyways I stop in here once a week. Service is great. Staff remembers me. Very welcoming and the food is always great, hot, and fresh. They even customize my order to my liking. Finally tried the buffet instead of doing take away today. Was great. Got there right after opening to a packed house. Loved being able to try a little bit of everything. Price is reasonable as well. It’s close to home and is better then any other Chinese restaurant that is in my area in my opinion. Yeah I eat at Panda Express sometimes as well and other places, but I stick to Dragon King for the most part for Chinese. Family favorite for years. I can agree with others the place is dated by a couple decades but don’t let that discourage you from trying. Take away is always great and I would agree with the others. Come when its prime time for the freshest best selection on the buffet. I’m going to be trying dinner out next week for the extra sea food compliments. Also had a lounge area that is nice. Some people come simply for that. Drinks are well priced and stiff! Open till Midnight I believe with good deals on appetizers. Crowd is usually generation or two older then me so I don’t hang out there much unless I bring friends. ;)

A great place for the family. Our 4 boys love it! The staff is always friendly and courteous. The food is pretty consistent and fresh, and always tasty. Never too salty or greasy. Sure, the building is a bit dated and in need of an overhaul, but I have never had an issue with food quality. Give it a try and let me know how you like it!

I have been coming here sporadically for over 5 years. I don’t think I’ve ever been in before 9 so I have never had a chance to try the buffet which ends then. However, they are open ’til midnight, so for someone who tends to work later in the evening this is a great place to stop by on the way home from work. As I usually enjoy a beer while I’m waiting for my meal, I think they could improve by adding a draft selection to the bar. Other than that, the food is good for the price. On a very opinionated side-note, I totally dig the crab puffs.
