Wow, so many cheap Chinese food snobs rating this place. Folks, this is on St. John’s. This is where very fat people get a little fatter. This isn’t flown in from Beijing from TRB for god sake. People want a meal for $ 7.50, prepared by gourmet chefs and served by hot American college girls who speak Chinese and dance while spinning plates on ten foot polls. Wake up folks, this is cheap American Chinese food, deep fried three times over and piled on until the plate can’t hold one more peanut. I came here months ago and was disappointed. I happened to be in the area and spicy chicken with vegetables were dancing in my head. I pulled up Unilocal and House of Beijing comes up. I forgot the name of this place, so I headed over and realized what I ended up coming to. None the less, I went in and ordered Chicken and String Beans. I asked for it spicy which they happily agreed. My greatest fear is the pool of grease generally at the bottom of the dish, but low and behold, this dish was not greasy at all. The rice was dry, the string beans were a bit over cooked, but the meat and spicy flavor was great. The hot and sour soup was brown dish water, but eatable. The egg roll and crispy things that look like elephant ears are never my thing and these were deep fried to the max. In the end, I came for spicy chicken and vegetables and I fully enjoyed the dish and yes it was a lot to eat. Everyone there was taking boxes home. Imagine, $ 7.50 and carry home boxes of food and people still talk crap. As for service, maybe you should realize that people from China and Asia in general work their ass off for long long hours and handing out as many plates as possible at the lowest possible cost is their business model. They generally barely speak English, but you want a witty conversation about the merits of Bernie Sanders. If you want really good Chinese food, don’t expect to find it in the Couve. House of Beijing is the #2 rated Chinese food joint in the Couve, so they are serving exactly what their customers want. Deep fried mountains of food that require doggy bags for low prices. Chow Down! P. S. The bathroom was very clean and this is hard to find in a Chinese restaurant.

Really good Chinese American food for reasonable prices. Portions sizes are ridiculous, 1 combo meal will easily feed 2 people and you’ll still have left overs.

I love reading the reviews of House of Beijing. You are absolutely correct this is not authentic Chinese food BUT for the price you pay you get what you pay for and I think the food was pretty good. I would recommend this place for lunch 100%!!! Portions are huge and the food is tasty and you get the whole experience. I recommend the General Tso’s chicken and their fried rice. Might be nice to hear some Traditional chinese mood music in the background. But overall the experience was positive. This will be a regular lunch destination.

House of Beijing is the Chinese food I grew up with. This is not«authentic» Chinese food this is Chinese-American food. This is not gourmet Chinese food. This is huge portions of chopped vegetables and small pieces of meat. This is deep fried shrimp, chicken, and pork. This is sweet and sour sauce with imitation flavor. This is fried egg rolls. This is hot and sour and egg flower soup. This is pork fried rice. I have never been disappointed here and we eat here at least once every six weeks simply because I don’t expect more than I should from this kind of restaurant. I just got take out last night and found the phone number to order via Unilocal and decided I should leave a review. The food is always fresh, fresh, fresh. They use no MSG. To those who claim to have gotten sick eating here I fear you are mistaken it was the food cart earlier in the day that made you sick. My five star review is based on what I expect here. You don’t order a 99 cent burger and expect ground chuck on a specialty roll. You get what you pay for at House of Beijing and possibly more because the portions are HUGE. My take out last night was dinner and lunch today, all for under $ 12.00!!! The service here is not fantastic. It’s the service you expect for a sub $ 10 per person Chinese restaurant. I still rate it five stars because it is the service I expect at this kind of place. If you want«authentic» chinese food, a view of the river, matching china and silver, a place without any tears in the upholstery and a perfectly decorated designer dining room go somewhere else. If you want the corner Chinese restaurant that most of America calls Chinese food and always has bottle of soy sauce on the table with marginally clean restrooms go here and you will get your money’s worth. ~~~~~On a side note to management: It’s time to dump some money into the men’s restroom.(I’m not sure about the women’s) It’s only gotten worse since The Castle and all the drunks that used to throw up in the toilet went away.~~~~~

Food wasn’t great. Wasn’t bad either. Portions were huge, but when food is eh, you don’t really want to take home a ton of left overs.

Sooooo… My story: I wanted some good Chinese food and I wanted to try something new and this place had good reviews, so my girlfriend and I went here. We got the Crab puffs & pork chow mein for an appetizer. The crab puffs were decent enough, but the chow mein tasted awful and old and the… meat? It looked like white brain, it smelt atrocious, looked atrocious and tasted atrocious. For entrees she got the orange chicken and I got the general tsos chicken. In the most comical way possible, we both took a bite and slowly tilted our heads up towards each other and I muttered, «Does this taste… fake to you?» She immediately agreed adding that she thought it tasted«old». We were both starving and thought we would at least eat a little. The rice was okay at best, the orange chicken sauce was way too sweet and the general chicken sauce didn’t even taste as it should. No spice, no flavoring, just sugar sauce that was red. Sure, the portions are large but we stopped eating and simply paid and walked out. We boxed up the food thinking maybe later we would try it again, but as we were going home our stomachs were starting to ache more and more so we immediately threw the food away when we got home anyways, not wanting to touch it again. Service was poor, as it is with pretty much every Chinese restaurant(sorry, just a fact.) I am now writing this review because I’ve been up all morning and can’t seem to leave the toilet for more than 5 minutes at a time before coming back. We went to this place because of the 4⁄5 star rating on here, but I don’t think I’ve been this disappointed in a very long time. Save your money(and your Pepto-Bismol) and look elsewhere for a good Chinese restaurant.

We gave this place a try. It was just okay. We ordered the family-style combination meal for ~$ 13.50(I can’t remember the exact price) which is for 2+ people. Each person gets to choose a soup and entrée, and it also comes with pork fried rice and a large plate of fried appetizers. We picked Kung Pao chicken and Mongolian Beef. The Mongolian Beef wasn’t very good at all, the beef itself was mushy and the dish had too much sauce. The Kung Pao Chicken was better. The portion sizes were out of control. For ~$ 35 we had enough food for 6 plates.

If i had the option for negative stars, this place would be –5. Place is dirty. Our fried rice came and the rotten oil smell overwhelmed both of us. We were only able to eat a few bites. Short staffed. Rude staff. No concern for our satisfaction. Gross! Don’t waste your money or time.

This place is Awesome! The food is great and you get plenty of it. The Building they are in is kind of run down but is clean and well kept on the inside. We will be back every time. Keep up the good Work…

Decided to try this place via Unilocal.Just moved to the area, and wanted to try a Chinese Restaurant close by. Service: Decent service, attentive, but wouldn’t do a single tweak to accommodate our order. Food: We ordered the War Wonton Noodle Soup. Very disappointed. The noodles were soft and mushy, and the soup lacked any flavor. Our entrees, were HUGE. The HUGEST plate of food I’ve ever seen. We did combo plates with pork fried rice(wouldn’t allow me to switch for regular or chicken) chicken broccoli and sweet and sour pork which was included on all plates. They might as well could have deep fried the plate along with the meal, because it was diabetes on fine China. A MOUNTAIN high of fried foods. The meal came with fried shrimp which I enjoyed; but couldn’t stomach much else. The meats tastes fatty and questionable, and there was a thick clear fluid on the broccoli. We both barely touched our entrees and paid. Won’t be returning.

I had lunch here. The special is $ 5.50 for lunch. You get your choice of two items, soup and tea. I had subgum chicken chow mein with sweet and sour pork. Very yummy. Quick service. The food was fresh as it could be. Plenty of actual parking. I will most certainly return again.

I was disappointed that the«Harlequin Room» was closed(they need to update their signage). The food was OK, they tried to hide the quality under the quantity, It was a lot of OK Chinese food. Staff was frendly and the dining room was clean.

A hidden gem! I drove past this place over the years and would never go in. Looks can be deceiving. My friend told me she was taking to out to lunch at the best chinese place in town(I’ve never found a place in vancouver that I ever thought was very good). To my suprise she brought me here. I was blown away! This place is fantastic! The best chinese you can get, all made to order, fresh ingredients, no msg, HUGE portions, great prices and the FRIENDLIEST staff. This place is family owned and the people who work there are very, very nice and kind. My family and I quickly became regulars and they now know us by name lol. I cannot say enough good things. It’s an old building and a very dated atmosphere but we don’t care because the food is wonderful and the staff is great. I we want more ambiance we order it to-go. We order take-out alot here too, good food, no cooking and always left overs!

We have been looking for a new chinese food place and we have been going to Golden China for some time and loved them. I then went on Unilocal and found House of Beijing and i read all the reviews and everyone and mentioned the portions sizes were huge! Were right down the street from them and like everyone else said the building isnt the nicest curb appeal. But inside had plenty of seating, the employees were very understanding and answered all our questions about the menu. We waited about 15 mins and out came our food in a huge box with about 9 cartons offood. The food was completely fresh. The sweet and sour pork was amazing and my husband and i fought over the broccoli and beef. and on top of itt they gave us egg roles for free. We fed 5 ppl dinner, plus we had enough for everyone had left overs for lunch the next day. So we bought 2 meals ment for only 2 ppl and it fed 5 ppl twice. So their portions are awesome! HIGHLYRECOMMEND

If you are looking for cheap, hot, delicious American Chinese food, this is the place. They have huge portions and the food is yummy. The atmosphere isn’t great, but I don’t expect that from a small Chinese restaurant such as this one. Also, they are insanely busy during popular take-out evenings(Fridays and Saturdays in my experience) so if you’re looking for take out in the evenings, prepare yourself to wait or plan ahead and call early. They are not very busy at lunch as far as I’ve seen so I consider that to be the best time to come and get my Chinese food cravings satisfied.

Definitely don’t judge this restaurant by its appearance, inside or out. It appears a bit shabby with a worn interior including rock walls that blast you back into the 70’s. House of Beijing is another Chinese restaurant that skips MSG completely in their cooking. Although this may require you to add a tad of salt to your food that is exactly how it should be and how I like to have it. House of Beijing is a gem of the community and the people know it. It is always busy with dining in and carry out orders. You get huge servings of delicious and fresh chinese food and hot tea. The Crab Puffs and Kung Pao Chicken are a couple of our favorites to get here.

I can confidently say this is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Vancouver. I’m a big guy with an even bigger appetite, and House of Beijing does everything they can to exceed all of my expectations. The portion sizes are godly and delectable. I oftentimes find myself needing a nap afterwards! 5⁄5 stars no question.

On my pursuit to find the best beef & broccoli in the world, I stumbled across this new place based of Unilocal ratings. I came here for valentine’s day takeout and it was *extremely* busy. I called ahead and was told 20 – 30 minutes, but made sure to burn at least an hour. When I arrived, my food still wasn’t ready. However, I don’t chalk this up to a regular thing… I chalk it up to valentine’s day on a Sat night. Customer service was excellent, though. The aura of the restaurant is meh, but a little worse than most Chinese restaurants I’ve been to. Hubby got«spicy» orange chicken, and it wasn’t spicy at all, even after my requesting it to be as spicy as it could get. The orange chicken was still good. The beef & broccoli was great, had excellent flavor, tender, and had chunks of garlic which was awesome. Egg rolls that I’m assuming are included in the meal were absolutely disgusting… the best way I could describe them would be a seaweed paste, possibly? Despite the food being delicious, I can’t say it’s anything to write home about. I’ve certainly had better Chinese food. If I were in the neighborhood and craving Chinese, I’d probably stop by — otherwise I don’t know that I’d go out of my way to eat here again.

A real gem in the heart of Vancouver. Nothing fancy, inside or outside, but don’t let that be a deterrent… it is all uphill from here!!! I am not an expert with any foods, but I know what I like. So I started with a cup of their hot & sour soup… excellent flavors!!! I followed this with their chop suey… they have chicken, beef, pork, vegetable… I choose the pork. It arrived steaming hot and quite tasty. Then came the salt & pepper shrimp. Not many chinese restaurants serve this but when they do, it is all over the board in presentation and taste… tonight it was superb. This is a small family business. I think these are perhaps the siblings running the business. You can gain a greater insight into the dynamics just by sitting back and opening your eyes & ears. I picked up immediately on the interaction and manners of this family. Very impressed!!! These are your friends & neighbors… give them your support… you will be quite impressed!!!

My second time here. This experience was even better than the first. The service was spot on. Prices are excellent and portions are out of control. I can eat with the best of them and I still had enough for dinner the next day. $ 6.75 divided by two equals $ 3.37 per meal. Try to do that at a fast food joint. We had the Teriyaki Chicken and Szechuan Chicken. Both were very good. Not the best I have ever had but very good. All in all, one of the best in Vancouver.
