The owners have decided to close permanently and relocate to Louisiana. There was a article about them in the most recent edition of the local paper called the Acorn. Another great local store has left this community. Thousand Oaks is a shallow community that values tire stores, auto dealerships, massage places and garages on its main street and does not encourage stores like this to stay. I will miss their friendly welcome and all of their great books. The owners will be opening a store in Louisiana when they have settled down. Best of luck the Bookaneer will be missed. I am a champion of locally owned businesses, I am saddened by this closure.

Great to see her open this place again. Great remodeling job. Nice and open, but still full of books. The Mr. Scot is also running the place with her. They have a beautiful sitting area and free coffee in the front. Cushy chairs almost big enough to curl up in. The book selections are heavy on Romance then SciFi/Fantasy, and Mystery. Just what I like. Didn’t leave with any Dean Koontz I was looking for, but did find a few romance I was looking for. I will always be back when I’m in the area. Great to have her back!

Walked in today after picking up a coffee at Just Coffee across the street. After browsing through my favorite Shakespeare and oldie but goodie novels I laid eyes on the recipe books! I found trio of French lessons in dinner preparation and snagged them for $ 3 each. Lovey way to spend a leisurely hour. Loads of options sorted by genre!

I was sooo disappointed after going over to TO after Christmas to find my favorite used book store closed. I’ve been visiting it and the one they used to have in the valley for over 20 years! They have the best selection of romance anywhere. Driving by the other day, I was estatic to see that Bookaneer has re-opened. I had to stop and check it out. The remodel is lovely and it is much more bright and airy. I have to say I loved the treasure hunt feel of the overstuffed shelves of yore, but it may come to that again. If you love books, this is a great place to visit!

I saw a sign outside today saying Grand Re-Opening”. I didn’t get close enough to see the details. Based on my previous visits– good selection of old Sci-fi, but not the most organized though. The lady that works there is helpful and attentive, but gives you space to browse.

It was almost like I was back in Santa Cruz, stumbling into The Bookaneer. The owner informed me that she has owned the store for 21 years! That’s Thousand Oaks history for you. The shelves were packed with scattered paperbacks for cheap and the crisp smell of paper filled the air. The place is divided into sections based on Sci-Fi(great selection), Fiction, Children, Romantic, Religion, Nonfiction etc. I just love the coziness I felt from the owner and the the store. There were so many nooks that you could just hide away in to peruse a few books and waste your day away. A lovely breeze blew in through the stores open back door which felt great. I ended up picking a book that only cost me $ 3.00 that Barnes & Noble was charging $ 10.99. Negatives — Cramped, relatively unorganized. Awkwardly quiet? I will give this place my business from now on. I believe that T.O. Blvd has some amazing gems of shops that have yet to be discovered. Lets keep this a community people! All in all, a great used bookstore alternative to B&N. Also, a great Italian deli lies next door with outdoor seating to read your new book on a warm day. Don’t pass this one up. Children section is a must see. The owner does carry manga. Support your local retailers.

First of all, what a great name for a book store. It’s been 9 years since I lived in the area and I’ve never forgotten The Bookaneer. This little place packs quite a punch. For someone as interested in science fiction as I am, it’s a gold mine. I had a good time adding to my Star Wars and Star Trek collection here. The massive selection creates the need for the shelves to be very close together. I find this departure from spacious big box book stores to be a pleasant quirk about The Bookaneer. The mostly paperback selection is sold at half or less than half of the original cover price. It’s located in a little strip mall, so keep your eyes peeled because you might drive by it even if you’re looking for it.

It’s a mixed used bookstore. There’s actually a great deal of high quality selection in the children’s section, along with the usual peppering of Hardy Boys and Babysitters Club. The shelves are even closer together than in an ordinary used book store, but they’re(for the most part) surprisingly well-organized. The prices aren’t phenomenal, but they aren’t terrible, either – a number of $ 2 and $ 3 books. It’s overwhelmingly paperbacks, which is a little disappointing to me – and overwhelmingly pulp fiction/sci fi/romance, which I understand is usually what people are trying to get rid of. In short, not a bad little local bookstore with some good selection.

The owner here has mostly paperbacks, which she will take in trade from you, but the exchange rate is pretty steep. She has a large selection of science fiction, and a few old hard bound books, including children’s books. The stacks are really close together, to get the maximum number of books in the small store, but what that does is give it a pretty claustrophobic feel. I lke the fact that it is local for me, but not cozy like Bart’s in Ojai for sure.
