Chicken piccata is not chicken piccata, really more like a creamy basil sauce, no discernable lemon flavor. My husband got the rib eye sandwich with fries and slaw. No slaw though. He thought the steak was good and the roll, but not together. The flavors didn’t complement each other. Overall not horrible but not good either.

Just had a couple of cocktails this time, usually have steak but just met up waiting to go somewhere else with a friend for dinner. I do like coming to this place, it is a fixture in Texas City. The steaks are what I normally get but can’t review them at this time since I didn’t eat one.

Excellent service and excellent food. We had… The ribeye steak w/baked potato and a salad. Superb! The Ponchetrain. Grilled fish topped with crab meat, shrimp, mushrooms and a white creamy sauce… To die for!

I was hemming and hawing between the Crawfish Etoufee or the Chicken Piccata… I was really leaning toward the Etoufee, but still wasn’t positive… so, I asked my waitress her thoughts, then she offered me a sample! Who does that? :) The Etoufee was awesome, by the way, and I got enough food for lunch AND dinner! Definitely worth it, and I’ll definitely be going back.

Really hard to beat, prices are decent and the food is almost always consistently good! Super good hamburger, steak trimming sandwich is awesome and my husband loves the chicken piccata!

This is based off the burgers. Dry, tasteless. The fresh bread was good. The fries tasted like old oil.

We found this place on Unilocal and it was great! We each had the two meat bbq dinner. Huge portion sizes were nice and the smoky bbq was really good. Our waitress was double seated, but by how quickly we were served you wouldn’t have known. By the time we left there was a 20 min wait to be seated. I recommend hitting this place up. Next time we’re in town I’m gonna try their burgers!

Great meat place. I’ve had, steaks, pork chops and my favorite is the steak trimmings as an entre. Wait staff always on point, never a bad experience. Not sure about weekend dining. I’ve only eaten here during the week.

Food and drinks was great, waitress was awesome, quick service! Even my picky eater enjoyed his grilled chicken. Big portions too! The Mayor and family was there when we went so I guess it’s the happening place in TC on the weekends because I saw the Moody Bank bigwigs in there as well.

My husband and I(and everyone we know) have been going to Gus’ since before we were married. The Chicken Picata is amazing and what I get. However, my parents love the steaks and my sister loves the fish. We have had birthday parties, girls night out, and just«let’s go to Gus’». Anyone that would say the food is bland or has no taste didn’t go to Gus’ or just doesn’t know good food. I did love the old place, but on busy nights there was always a wait. This is also one of the last known places that still take reservations and your table is ready when you get there. Also, for a good drink try the Amaretto Freeze… just awesome!

Easily one of my favorite burgers in the Houston galveston area. Ive been coming here since they were at the 9th st location. Although this location is more modern and not nearly as divey, it will do and is more convenient within the city if you’re coming from up north or just passing through. The price is a little on the higher side for this area, but its well worth it. The burger is ¾lb afterall!

I have been going to Gus’s since 1977. My girlfriends and I went every Thursday night for many years. We ate drank, talked and ate some more. I moved away in 1993. When my husband and I came back to visit, it was the meeting place for grown kids, Grandkids, friends, and coworkers. One of my granddaughters was breast feed in the booth at the old location. Then when she graduated high school, she had her graduation party there. To me that means quality and consistency. Sometimes there are little issues with the service or food. Over all it is the best place to eat in Galveston County. The steaks are very good, the chicken piccata is awesome, the Fish is very good. Did I mention the bar? The drinks are great and consistently mixed. I have never had a problem with the wait staff. Some of those girls have been there for years! I would like to give it 5 stars, but the floor looks like they ripped the tile off and didn’t do anything else with it. It just looks a fright! I love me some Gus’s!

I had the jumbo fried shrimp dinner. The shrimp were HUGE, however, had no taste at all. Was disappointed. The brought loaves of bread to the table, sourdough and pumpernickel(I think). The bread tasted bland as well. Others in my party had steak. They said the steak was very tender but neither of them cared for the seasoning/marinade on their steaks.

Excellent service, good atmosphere, decent food. That said, my steak was over cooked and the food was bland.

I wish Unilocal would allow ½ stars sometimes, because this place is better than 3 stars, but just not quite a «4 star» place in my book. It’s a firm 3 ½ star establishment. This restaurant is located right smack dab in the middle of all the businesses on Palmer Highway. My husband ordered a Chicken Fried Steak and I went w/grilled shrimp. We both had salads to start and they were dressed just right– I hate that when your salad is swimming in salad dressing. For his meal, hubby got fries w/his CFS and I think that was a mistake– it seems like a sin to not order mashed potatoes and gravy w/it, but it wasn’t my meal. The fries were standard frozen fries, and were pretty flavorless. The CFS on the other hand, was cooked perfectly, had a wonderful crust on it, and was really delicious. My grilled shrimp looked like they were cooked on a skewer since they were lined up so pretty and perfectly. They were seasoned really well and cooked perfect. My dish came w/a rice pilaf, and honestly I wasn’t much of a fan– it had a slight sweet flavor to it that turned me off, so I just didn’t eat any of it. All in all, I really enjoyed the meal and I like how convenient the place is located.

I got the chicken finger dinner. It wasn’t bad but it was bland. It’s like they put no spices at all on it. Also, it was almost 20 bucks for just me. I doubt I will go back.

I have eaten here a few times. Their new location is nice and doesn’t smell like the old one. Great food and nice staff. When my clients come in from out of town and need a place for lunch, this is where I send them.
