Burgers were dry and tough. First burger(outside of a school cafeteria) I wouldn’t eat. Husband and I both ordered one, took a bite, and left. Summary: Frozen processed hamburger patties pressed into a shape and then over cooked. We found somewhere else to eat lunch.

Not a fan of their brisket at all, it has zero flavor. The chopped beef baked potato is ok, nothing to brag about, but not terrible.

went sept 19th… had a stuffed chopped beef baked potato. $ 9 well, the meat had no taste or flavor… and, too much fat. no butter on potato — so even with the wetness of the beef & bbq sauce… it was dry and just… a big YAWN

I would consider the food average at best. I ordered the lunch special of rib and sausage. I received 3 riblets a small sausage link cut into 8 pieces, scoop of mac and cheese and pinto beans for $ 12.98(without a drink). The sauce along with the food had very little flavor. The riblets were mainly burnt and barely edible. Customer service was good and was greeted well by all I came in contact. Overall, it will be a while before I try this establishment again.

Us” boys” meet up about once every other month for a lunch and this is one of our favorite places for BBQ that’s in Galveston County. Bill has many times brought food to the station after a large fire, accident or an emergency event in Texas City. They are good people. They give discount to men and women in uniform or on duty. The lunch rush line may loo long but it moves very quickly.

I’ve been coming here for years and used to consider this to be one of the better BBQ restaurants in the area. That was before I knew what good BBQ was and certainly before Pit Stop opened. These days, I rarely come anymore. When I do, my typical order consists of the super chop combo with iced tea. The jalapeño cheese bread it comes on is pretty good, like Goode Co. up in Houston. I think the sausage tastes better than the brisket. Their BBQ sauce is part of what makes me not like the food so much here, it’s just different than others. If you don’t care for BBQ, they also offer a few other items like burgers, pork chops and chicken fried steak. Prices are reasonable for a BBQ restaurant and service is good, even though they don’t provide a whole lot since it’s cafeteria style and they don’t have table service. This is probably a good thing though.

Baked potato with chopped beef was really good. The only thing I had to complain about was that they were out of sour cream & the bathroom was disgusting :/other than that it was good.

I really hate writing bad reviews but this place gives me no choice :( From when I sat down at my table, looked up and saw the grime and grease covered no longer working Internet security camera, until I finished my meal, no Bueno. Not a good experience. First and last time at «Grand Prize» BBQ. And just have to wonder who gave it the grandest prize with food like this? The employees were nice enough and can’t complain there. However the food? Yikes?! I Can complain here. I make it a habit to ask the employees on my first visit for their best recommendations. So I was told to order the two meat plate with the sliced beef and ribs. I did. Thumbs down dude. Sliced beef pretty dry. Ribs way tough… Maybe«grissely» and opposite from being the fall off the bone goodness that actually can be had out there. Sauce? 4 out of 10, def not good. Potato salad fine. Jambalaya, dry and maybe consisted of just two ingredients. Rice and some little dark colored kinda burnt pieces of beef was it? So my dad was at first told with his senior plate he could pick any two sides listed on the pointed at wall. His choice was the main meat and spicey waffle fries. Then we were redirected to a countertop framed list of extra charges for various sides. Apparently it costs another dollar to put the«spice» on regular fries and that only regular waffle fries came with the plate? Ok. Ordered, and sat down. We were there for a while and he was almost done with his plate when I had to go back and remind the workers they were never received. Price? You be the judge pls. — three people. 1 import premium beer ordered«Shiner», 2 waters, 2 sub par plates and one stuffed potato very close to $ 40. …As the customers slowly(very slowly) trickled in during what should have been dinner rush, I wondered if they were regulars or just thought it was too far to drive to a more acceptable joint. Let’s revisit the greasy gross camera… Not horrible I know, but definitely should have been taken down months, possibly years ago. And yes makes you wonder about exactly how clean behind the scenes really is. At this time I’m going for the 2 star review, but only because again the employees were nice enough. I only have the heart to give 1 star when its a truly god awful experience. In conclusion, I’d wait for now. Wait for the banner that reads ‘Under New Management!’ Or at least until you’ve heard«the camera» has successfully been removed :)

This restaurant is a pillar of the community. Where should the list start… awesome food made from scratch, cold beer, menu variety, and overall a small business that for over 25 years has supported Texas City citizens of all walks of life.

Haven’t been in here in awhile. I’ve been coming here since right after they opened in the 80’s. I started coming here for the stuffed baked potato. They used to be packed like a small football!!! You can get it with anything you want on it. Chopped beef, sausage, and more! Comes packed with butter, chives, cheese, sour cream, and more, with it you can add onions, pickles, or jalapeños off the condiment bar. Their BBQ plates are pretty good too. They also have fried fish, steaks, and other items along with desserts. It’s not what I’d call a Texas top ten BBQ spot, but it’s a great local place for lunch and dinner. Sometimes I’ll swing by and pickup a plate or sandwich to take to work for lunch. It’s big enough that I can usually break it up into two meals!!!

I’m not a real big fan of BBQ joints. That being said, this place won me over. I got the stuffed bake potato and this sucker was loaded. At first glance I thought… This is to much food. Then I began to eat it… And I couldn’t stop to every morsel was destroyed.

This is not good bbq. The brisket tasted and had a texture more like it was steamed instead of smoked. The bbq sauce is too heavy on the tomato. My daughter said her chopped brisket sandwich tasted like a meatball poboy, and I agree. I am not that familiar with Texas City, but you can get far better in the Clear Lake Area. I don’t recommend this place.

Average BBQ, way below average customer service. From out of town and our hotel recommended this place. Uncalled for rudeness right off the bat as we were a little off on the ordering procedures. Ribs had a decent smoke look to them but tasted bland, the boudin balls were still very cold in the center, and the chicken was tiny with tasteless BBQ sauce poured all over it. Lastly, one of the members in my group ordered a ribeye, and it was worse than US military/prison grade. How I know, because that’s what the chow hall serves us while we are deployed and those tasted way better than this thin cut over cooked experiment. The place has promise possibly with new management, but as a tourist I would avoid it and use your $ elsewhere.

Went here for lunch and ordered the chop beef sandwich Not really impressed the BBQ is ok not a big deal. There was more bread than the thin layer of meat that was put on the sandwich. It was more like flavored bread than a BBQ sandwich. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant was very clean.

I like chutzpah, but please, don’t call yourself Grand Prize! Ain’t so! Located on the south side of Palmer, in industrial TX City, this is a down home, no-frills BBQ place. The menu is on the wall and is quite extensive. Now, I don’t think this place is cheap, and their portions aren’t huge, either. The man at the counter taking our order was difficult to understand. He spoke quickly, was not articulate. I’m not sure if his English was that good, or he just didn’t give a $%&*. I had the BBQ chicken salad, which was tasty but nothing special. Two quarter tomato slices, iceberg lettuce, some shredded cheese, chicken thrown on top. The plates are plastic, and for drinks, you get a Styrofoam cup. I don’t know, just nothing that shouts, «I’m Texas. I’m Grand Prize.»

This place is Texas all the way! The food, the décor. the music, and the friendly people all say«This is Texas!» Brisket, sausage, chicken are all juicy and flavorful. The sauce is a rich dark color and flavor that goes perfectly with the brisket. I really like the BBQ potato lunch special — a huge baked potato with butter, sour cream, chives, and cheese all covered with chopped brisket(I order it with no cheese & no foil). Comes with a side and a drink for under ten bucks.

Not a Grand Prize at all! Went there on a recommendation from another business up the street while I was in town. Im not from the area so I always take the locals advice when it comes to the local food spots. I was REALLY excited to eat some GOOD Texas BBQ, I had been looking forward to it. Sadly this was NOT good Texas bbq. I got a 3 item combo so I could try a little over everything. 1. Brisket. When you are in TX you expect amazing brisket. While the meat was tender it had very little flavor and way too much fat still on the slices. Not a fan 2. Ribs. Good flavor but I could tell they had been sitting out for a while. very tough and dry. The rub/sauce was decent but I wanted tender and moist ribs. 3. Sausage. Not good at all. very bland and very watery. Almost like they had been in a covered steam tray all day and I got some of the condensation along with the meat. The building itself is really old and dated, not very clean looking at all. They are getting 2 stars just because their BBQ is not bad, but everything else needs some help…

Take Out, ordered plate prepared and lady behind counter headed my plate to me side ways in bag, good thing they wrap them in plastic wrap, I was pissed, I guess her lighter customers were more important, Customer Service classed needed, BBQ dinner sausage nothing special tasted boiled with BBQ sauce and had no flavor, my ribs were all meat no fat which I like, but they were tasteless as well. The rice and potato salad were blah, so overall not satisfied, I’m not a BBQ master, but this definitely wasn’t a grand prize :-(

Love the old school feel of the place. Everyone was friendly and the food was great. Only downside was the sauce being served cold. It tasted fine but I thought it cooled off my chop sandwich. Overall, the chop sandwich tasted good. I’ll go again and hold the sauce. Very minor item.

This place smelled wonderful as soon as I walked in the door. I got the lunch special chopped beef sandwich and a side. The pinto beans were OK, a little too much jalapeño flavor for me. The brisket on the sandwich was very flavorful. After everyone ate, they brought out complimentary peach cobbler, which I though was a nice gesture.
