Pretty good barbecue. I have had better; but for the location and the price. Meaning I am a local. I give it 4 stars and I do recommend this establishment. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff is Texas friendly. My favorite is the loaded baked potato. I also know some of that sides are pretty awesome as well ie twice baked potato.

Great food! May be best brisket this side of Austin area! We get the moist, ribs good, sausage good, the twice baked potatoes are great! Regular sauce is ok — get on the side. We will be back!

Dry, flavorless brisket and ribs. Couldn’t taste much in the way of smoke or seasoning. Asked for moist brisket, and they pulled out a piece of the flat from beneath the point(which was nowhere to be seen), sliced it less than 1/16″ thick and served it in a pile. No bark, gray and chewy. Ribs were old-tasting and chewy as well. It’s too bad, they have a nice restaurant space. Can’t say much more.

Was taken here by a co-worker and had lunch. The food is very good. Love the sausage very much. Also had the chopped beef and it too was nice. I did not care much for the beans, as I do not like onions and there were too many onions in it. The staff was great and friendly.

My family and i tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago. Can’t belive it took me this long to try it out since it’s not far from where I stay. Food was delicious and portion was perfect! I’ll definitely be back!

Delicious bbq. Brisket, ribs and chicken tender and seasoned well. No need for sauce however a great addition. Sweet and heat pickles were delish. Variety of sides to choose from. Too many that it was hard to decide. Staff were great. Multiple awards over the years for great bbq. They know what they are doing. Sausage tastes homemade. We will be back for more from Houston

The Pit Stop is the best BBQ that I’ve had in the Texas City/LaMarque area hands down! You can tell your going to be in for a treat when you walk in the door and there are BBQ Cookoff trophy’s lining a dividing wall in the restaurant! This was my 2nd time to visit this establishment. I ordered the three meat BBQ plate with sliced brisket, sausage, and pork ribs to try a variety. The sides I ordered with my plate were Cajun potato salad, and twice baked potatoes. They also have a choice of mild or spicy BBQ sauce. I chose the spicy. The brisket was really good, but sliced a little on the thin side but that’s alright they give you plenty. Their sausage is really good here too! The pork ribs, they have me three smallish ribs were good but, I was expecting them to be just a little bigger. The sides were really good, the Cajun potato salad is really good, and the twice baked potatoes were exceptional!!! The first time I came in her a while back was to get a couple of sandwiches for taking to work. I got a sliced beef and a sliced sausage sandwich. The do pile the meat on the sandwiches and you can get your onions and pickles on with your choice of sauce. Both were really good and they turned a few heads when I broke them out at lunch time!!! You can get fountain or bottle drinks. They also have appetizers such as fried Boudain balls, and stuffed jalapeños. They serve cold beer to go along with your Q if that’s what your in the mood for, and they also have a full service bar!!! I’ve heard their margaritas are pretty good! They are right on the north bound feeder of I-45 at the FM519 exit in LaMarque. So if your in the area give them a try! Also handy to stop on your way to, or from your trip to Galveston!!!

It took me a while to come here, even with living so close to the place. After living in Austin for years my standards for BBQ are pretty high now. The place looks like it used to be a garage or storage of some sorts, but it looks pretty neat and ‘Texafied’ inside. The first thing you notice is the huge display of trophies staring right across the place. They are a plenty. I came here around 5: ish in the afternoon and the place was pretty bare, but it picked up an hour later. When my friend and I got there we had the intention of grabbing to go(we had groceries in the car). I was then surprised to learn they had a full bar… needless to say we stopped by the house to unpack groceries and came right back to dine in. The servers there were pretty friendly and sociable. I was in a loaded potato mood so I got that with chopped beef and a side of green beans while my friend ordered the brisket plate. We both ordered margaritas. My chopped beef potato was good. I would say they gave me a good amount of meat. And I love that it’s not swimming in bbq sauce so I have the option to add that on should I choose. I would say I prefer their loaded potato to the one at Pappa’s BBQ. And it’s cheaper. Speaking of sauce, I personally love their bbq sauce. Tangy, not too sweet or vinegary, just right. But what they call«spicy» isn’t really. The greens beans I looooooved. Flavorful and well seasoned. Those were the first to disappear. AND they have a pretty decent margarita to boot. I would come here again just to have margaritas with a few friends. I was surprised to see they had boudin balls on the menu. I want to come back and try that. I wasn’t able to try my friend’s brisket so i can’t comment on that, but the chopped beef is solid, and they’re hand cut fries are good too. Oh yes. They have bread pudding with rum sauce my friend loved. I was digging the rum sauce. Overall I would say this place exceeded my expectations, which is why I will give them 4 out of 5 stars. They are doing everything right: friendly service, reasonably priced, decent bbq, good margaritas, and good sides. It’s not a place I would go out of my way for if I lived far away, But if it’s close by for you, you’ll be very glad it’s there.

I thought my food was so bad I won’t go back to try anything else. They might have some good items but the chopped beef sandwich I had was flat out terrible. All I could taste was smoke. I had to put onions and pickles on it just to tone down the smoke flavor, but it was so strong I couldn’t even taste those. I don’t know if I got a piece of meat the stayed in the smoker for too long but if you run a business that has been open for a long period of time then you would have the cooking of the food down to a science, so I doubt that is the case. Also I ordered fries and didn’t get them until I had like ¼ of my sandwich left. I didn’t sit down and start scarfing my food down neither. I sat and watched the TV for a minute, went to the bathroom, took my time washing my hands, and ate my food slowly. I’d like to add that it was pretty dead in there, no need for the wait.

My husband and I love Pit Stop! Their customer service is great and all food is delicious. We took our friends there for the first time and they didn’t know what to get, the guy chopping the meat gave them each a rib to try out. My favorite is the brisket and the loaded baked potato and we always get fried pickles. If you sign up for the emails you get coupons once a month, it’s really worth it if you go to Pit Stop often. Pit Stop is awesome!

I really want to give 1 star because the staff is so incredibly Unprofessional. The little Hispanic girl and guy that work at night make me never want to return here. It took 45 minutes for a simple brisket to go order! They forgot onions, pickles and sauce. Furthermore they charge for bread. It’s crazy if you spend 10.00 on a plate you can get bread but if you spend 50.00 for brisket to go, then no bread. The brisket is actually delicious if you can deal with the staff. I didn’t care for the ribs nor any of the sides(don’t waste your money) but the brisket is very good. I would have given 3 stars for the brisket but the staff is so rude and careless that I’m debating ever coming back.

Aww man! I love this place! I always get baked potato with chopped smoked turkey, and bread pudding with rum sauce. They complete your order fast and right in front of you. It feels like Texas when you hit the door! Very open and family friendly.

BBQ was tangy delicious. Brisket and ribs were falling apart, soft. Pulled pork was«pretty awesome» according to my teenager. Chicken and sausage were good according to hubby. Sides were very good compliment to our meal. Oh yeah and I think the owner /manager told us «thank you and welcome to Texas». — written by a visiting Northern California family

Fantastic place. Real nice people and great food. I’ve had barbecue in Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, Hawaii, and Texas. This place was one of the best among them. The bar has some great mix drinks too. Highly recommended! Great selection and good prices!!!

Let me start by saying this place has some of the BEST brisket I’ve ever tasted and I don’t say it lightly. That alone doesn’t warrant 5 stars and I’ll tell you why. 1. The short Hispanic wanna be «pretty boy» was one of the rudest people I’ve ever met. He didn’t want to be there and his attitude reflected it. 2. The sides were watery(almost all) and they lacked flavor and tasted mushy. What I’m specifically agitated with is the macaroni and cheese was all water with over cooked noodles. Granted it’s a BBQ place but sides should compliment the food… not piss you off. 3. The sausage was awful. I hated the over peppered taste, the texture and lack of juice, it just wasn’t for me. Now the ribs had a great outer shellac and flavor but they were tough like jerky not like ribs I’d make. There was no give or bend it really was hard to chew and it was a fresh slab, so to me they just didn’t get them tender enough. The BBQ sauce was meh and honestly the brisket tasted better without it. The brisket flavor was killer, I mean I was impressed but if it wasn’t for the brisket it’d be a 2 star place. I come from a long line of championship bbq’ers and it doesn’t matter what trophies you have on your wall(the owner displays his trophies in the dining area). What matters is what your customers put in their mouth… after all we are the judges that pay your bills not give you ribbons.

I ordered a loaded potato. What I got was a dry baked potato with some chopped beef on top. The fixings came in tiny plastic containers. Artificial bacon, dried chives a teaspoon of butter and a teaspoon of sour cream. I tried this place before and was disappointed then too. I hoped it was just what I ordered, nope. Its too bad cause the area could use a good bbq joint. Oh well

I had to try the burger on at least one of my visits here since burgers are sometimes great at BBQ restaurants. In this case, it was not so great. It was a pre-formed about ½ lb angus patty, that you can find at many restaurants these days that do not focus on perfecting and marketing their burger. If you are a true burger connoisseur, I would not waste your time ordering once since the BBQ is what really stands our here.

8÷23÷131:42pm — What a find! On my way to Galveston for a fishing tournament, I wanted to try out this joint. Previously this summer I nearly broke my neck driving up the Gulf Freeway tyring to look backwards when I spotted the stacks of wood in the back. I did a little research. The roots of the joint stems from competition. The owner Arnold Garza was head cook for the Los Vaqueros cook team. Judging by all the trophies on display, Los Vaqueros did very well. They opened in 2011. I scored Texas Pit Stop BBQ a 92 out of 100. This is Grand Champion Texas BBQ. Viva Los Vaqueros! Smoke: Hickory, stacks and stacks of hickory. Two big black wood fired Olyers located behind the restaurant. Houston, we have wood fired bbq. Brisket: Super Excellent! Words come up short to describe the brisket, but I will do my best. A great big bright red 5/16in smoke ring underneath a rich thick black bark. Perfect pull apart tenderness. A fork pushed through it like butter. Bark had rub and full smoke flavor. Fat and meat were silky and smokey. No sauce needed at all, don’t do it! Folks, people stand in line for hours(yours truely) to eat brisket like this. Ribs: Good. Tender but not tough of tender thin St Louis ribs. First thing you notice is the red glaze. It looks as sweet as it tastes. A glaze done with perfection; you will lick your fingers. Decent smoke but but the glaze is the what makes these ribs stand out. No sauce needed. Sausage: Very Good. A great traditional spice beef sausage with great after taste. Big and thick slices. Casing was snappy. No sauce needed. Sauce: Good. A traditional thick dark red sweet tangy Kansas City style bbq sauce. They serve a spicy sauce but it was more tangy than spicy. This barbeque was so good I forgot to take a picture of it.
