Joy Teriyaki

I would gladly eat here again for their tasty well prepared food. Although i have never eaten in the restaurant, but i have had take outs on acouple occasions. And also their food is inexpensive compared to other restaurants.

The spicy chicken was fantastic! I got a level 3 and it was perfect. The lovely woman who took our order and served us was wonderful. I will definitely be returning here on my next trip to Tacoma.

I love the food!!! Portions are perfect! The customer service is AMAZING! I don’t know how Jenny can remember the tiny details about my family! example: she includes fortune cookies for all my children, even when we are all sharing a pick up/​to go order! She is the best! I thank you for making every experience great!

Certainly a highlight of my week, Jenny is always cheerful when I visit! And no matter what I want to mix together on the menu it’s always able to be done :) also Jenny is so sweet, she always gives me 2 fortune cookies so I can share a fortune with my bf who is over 2,500 miles away! Will absolutely make this a staple for my comfort food.

Love this place. Jenny is so friendly and always is so happy. Knows what I want when I call in and order my teriyaki and gyosa meal with extra sauce.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Jen is amazing with her customer service & the food… the food is SO yummy! It’s fresh, hot & delicious every time. It has become a staple for our lunches here at work at least once a week! If you haven’t tried this place, you should because I kow you wouldn’t be disappointed.

Love this teriyaki place! You get a lot of good food, its relatively inexpensive and the customer service is fantastic.

This place has pretty good tasting teriyaki sauce. Almost a sweet brown sugar taste. I tend to come here when I need teriyaki, but I live 15 mins away from it and sometimes get lazy going to closer spots. However, if I was near by and wanted teriyaki… This would be it! The lady is super nice, and consistent. And she is always working there…

The (only) best teriyaki place in WA. I’m from Hawaii, so I know what I am talking about regarding a good teriyaki place. We love their garlic chicken, teriyaki chicken, spicy chicken, & my fav, veggie yakisoba Udon!!! Plus, the owner, Jenny is the sweetest Korean lady ever! If this place was in Federal Way, then I would go there every week!!!

The lady working is absolutely the sweetest person I have ever met in my life. Just walked in and was inspired to write a great review. This place will make you a happier person in this ladies presence.

Woah! I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place before! It is my favorite teriyaki place in Tacoma, hands down! The food is awesome and the lunch special prices are great but, obviously, the best part about this place is Jenny!
I have never, ever met someone with as much customer service skills. She is kind, thoughtful, and sweet and she is the reason that a lot of people keep coming back.
Other local shops should take notice of her! You can have only decent food (although, Joy’s truly is above the bar) but people will come back if the customer service is positive and personal.

Love this place. I’m terrible with names, I don’t remember the lady that works there, but she is the friendliest person I’ve ever encountered at any restaurant. We have only been living in the area for a month now and I’ve already gone here 3 times. I always order the same thing Sweet and Sour Chicken, House Fried Rice and Egg Rolls. The portion sizes are HUGE and the taste is amazing. Not to much sauce. Everything is cooked to perfection. The prices are really good too. I would totally recommend this place!

Used my Unilocal app to find another teriyaki restaurant nearby as my luck hasn’t been doing well and our usual spots are going a little downhill…
Joy Teriyaki had a ton of reviews and still held a high rating so we decided to give the place a try. Pulling up the place looked bigger than the it actual is once you enter and the parking can be a little tight. They do offer inside seating but it can fill up fast as there is NOT much. They do a ton of to-​go orders which will probably be my next route to try.
We went with a Bento Box, the larger one I believe and my daughter tried the spicy chicken teriyaki. We had some miso soup and it was good, the salad offered was standard, I just love the dressing that they used! Our food arrived and the 1^st thought was that the portions were on the small side and the cost was on the high, but I am on 6^th ave maybe it’s the whole area thing. Let me clarify this, the portions are more than enough when it’s comes to servings as we know most servings are more than we need but for the cost it doesn’t pan out. Upon first taste of my tempura, I was pleased, but as I continued on the carrot was too ripe, not cooked for my liking and also the potato. The chicken teriyaki was good, flavor was what it should taste like and the California roll was gobbled up by the kiddo. Now my daughter’s spicy chicken teriyaki was much better than what I ordered and I will have to try this and then update my review:)
Overall they were good, customer service was good, they were all really nice and attentive.

Amazing. Jenny was very welcoming and lovely. And we got super combo and Kung Po tofu = so darn good. Will be buying a bottle of the teriyaki sauce next time in because it was delicious. Looking forward to trying more from the menu

I’ve been going here for over 3 years now and it’s the only place I’ll go for teriyaki. Anywhere else I’m disappointed and wishing I came here. Everything is good, but I usually get the spicy chicken breast and substitute the salad with steamed veggies. I like how just about every chicken dish can come with breast meat instead of dark meat if you choose. Jenny is so sweet and always remembers us. The food is consistent too, which is a plus. Over the three years we have never had an issue with our food, but this past time our order got mixed up and we got a pork teriyaki instead of the pork fried rice we ordered. I called her back and she said to stop by for the fried rice, we got to keep the pork teriyaki AND she threw in an order of gyoza. If you’re looking for teriyaki, look no further.

I’m really only rating this on the BEEF SHORT RIBS since it’s the only thing I have ever ordered here.
They have ample amount of sauce which is always awesome and two scoops of rice which I can never complain about. Their short ribs are tender and always on the bone, just the way I like it. On top of that I always order to go and my salad is never watery and the dressing is always on the side. Let’s not forget Jenny who is awesome on top of more awesome (10 star customer service). I always come here if I’m looking for honest teriyaki and smiling customer service.

Nicest lady ever!!! Best service and absolutely the best food! Every time I go, it’s fast and delicious! Very much recommend this place to everyone!

I am so picky about teriyaki and Japanese food. I honestly have the hardest time finding a place that doesn’t serve everything coated in a thick layer of grease. This place is awesome though. I ordered the Tofu Lo Mein and it was delicious! Despite the tofu is fried it was not greasy at all. There were TONS of chunks of tofu and it tasted amazing. I am a total carnivore, but I get cravings for fried tofu if it is made right, and this place has the best I’ve tried. A+

Joy Teriyaki was a joy. Jenny was incredibly nice and the food was wonderful. I had the bento special with chicken teriyaki, which tasted excellent. I also had one of the best salad dressings ever, which they had newly made and yet to name. There’s not very much seating but is a favorite of the locals for take out. I highly recommend to any one who enjoys «hole in the wall» places.

Average teriyaki; the chicken is better than the beef. Price average.
For best teriyaki in Tacoma, I like Fujiya — but it is pricey, a full sit down sushi place. For best value, Happy Hana or Kings. Good atmosphere & tasty: Da Tiki Hut down the street.
Bottom line — Average food with a super personable owner.

My previous comments about Joy have generated a surprising amount of commentary both pro & con, so I thought I should drop the tongue in cheek review & just explain.
I have concerns with places that mess with their ratings — that’s why Unilocal has that flag at the top of every listing saying «your trust is our top concern…».
A year ago I was asked to change or remove a 3 star review by the marketing director of this establishment. I told them I felt my rating was fair, that their food was good, but not 5 star. The review then «disappeared». Many excellent writers have stopped contributing to places like Unilocal because of bad practices like vanishing reviews & services specializing in pumping up ratings. It’s a shame, these practices detract from the veracity of all reviews.
That said, «Itadakimasu!» and everyone get their grub on… hope your meal is good where ever you are.
