The food was okay although it was the food that was the problem. I went to lunch here with my daughter and she ordered a lunch special and I ordered regular lunch. She was almost done eating by the time they brought my food out. Then I felt awkward sitting there eating by myself– as I’m sure my daughter felt a bit awkward eating by herself. I felt like I was bothering the server the whole time. I had to seek her out for a box for my food and found her behind the counter sitting. Will not be back.

I found the food and price so good that I had to post on Unilocal for only my 3rd time. We got the family combo with chicken teriyaki, mongolian beef for $ 22.95. It fed 4 adults with some left over. It was yummy. I will definitely go back.

Only impressed with the awesome waitress! She’s bubbly and friendly and attentive to everything! Food was nothing spectacular, taste wise. Soup was cold and sweet and sour pork was tough and tasteless. Chicken teriyaki was just okay. Unfortunately nothing tasted that good that we will be craving in the near future. Portion size was huge, just not tasty enough. The teriyaki sauce on the table in the red plastic bottle had picked up the taste of the plastic, yuck!

What a difference! This place is under new management, the food is really good, with decent portions(I haven’t been able to finish my lunch in one sitting yet)… The combination fried rice actually had meat and shrimp big enough to taste, so many other places use cheep quality meat, and they don’t use much of it in their fried rice either, but this place serves a decent serving of meat in their fried rice, really good and quick. If you’ve tried them before and haven’t liked them, try it now under new management, you just might be impressed!

I was craving teriyaki, so I decided to give this place a try. Never been in before, but it was worth a chance. I was greeted as I walked through the door.(very nice in my book). She sat me allowed me to decide with out rushing me and before I was able to check my voice mail, food was there. It was a very nice portion size, and she didn’t allow me to want for water, if it got to the half full point she was on it. Very good service, good food. I will be back!

Great place to get some good food before going to a Rainiers game. Had the Spicy Chicken and it was delicious. Came with 2 scoops of rice and a salad with tasty homemade dressing. Friendly staff and nice clean dining area.

Amazing, it may look like a hole in the wall however the service was great. The salad that came with the dinner had the most amazing homemade dressing. The soup and egg rolls were fresh. The portions were generous and the flavor was wonderful. I highly recomend this place I know I will be back.

If I was able to rate on a negative 5 I definitely would. Decided to try this place out of hunger and convenience and oh my gosh it was the honest to god worst teriyaki I have ever had. The sauce on the extra small chicken portion was thick, pasty and bitter. Nothing like any teriyaki I have ever had. The lady was not friendly there and the rice soggy. Soggy rice, really? I took one bite of chicken and about gagged. I love teriyaki and trust me, I speak the truth about this place. Oh and ordered a side of egg rolls and as stated below, yeap frozen and deep fried. The shrimp was fine though… LOL Save your money… I will not return matter how hungry I may become.

Teriyaki chicken was way dry, barely any sauce. Same goes for their chow mein and fried rice. Definitely disspointed.

I have gone there for quite awhile, but after last night NOMORE!!! I called in a to go order and asked for extra Teriyaki sauce on my chicken, because in my experience the chicken is painfully dry with the small amount they put on there. The lady(who answered the phone, the one that is usually there with the long black hair in her 30’s was EXTREMLEY rude on the phone, and in her broken accent told me she didn’t understand what I wanted, and basically hung up before I could explain! Maybe she needs to learn the English language and solve her own problem! Like I said I have been there plenty times before as there is not a lot to choose from in University Place, but I will not be returning. I haven’t been wild about their attitudes in the past, for the simple fact that they think they are entitled to a tip for just placing your order in a bag, and having a nasty attitude when you don’t tip.

Hole in the wall place outside of Freddies. Friendly staff. The Mongolian Beef tasted pretty good and was reasonably priced, but the meat quality was less than stellar. I did ask for no rice and the person who took my order added a salad instead without me even asking, which I found a nice surprise.

I arrived on a Saturday. I’d noticed in passing that they advertised boba drinks in their window signage. I wanted boba. So I went in and tried to order a green tea-flavored bobba. They were out of the tapioca balls, so I allowed fruit-flavored jelly substitution. And then, they were apparently out of green tea flavoring. So I allowed a taro substitution. I also ordered an unagi roll. There was only one server/cashier and as the place filled up with more people, I felt that she was getting overwhelmed and it resulted in hasty service. When it was time for the cooks in the kitchen to take their lunch, they simply came out into the dining area, took up a four-seat table, and ate their food in front of customers.(This is not unexpected for me as somebody well used to family-owned Asian restaurants) I suppose this bothered newly arrived customers who therefore could not be seated. The resulting slushee-style drink with jelly chunks was barely acceptable; the taro flavoring was weak and I had been hoping for actual boba. The unagi roll was acceptable.(I chose it specifically because it takes especially inept cooks to screw up a cold dish, making it a very safe sort of choice). I have to say I would not go out of my way to return to this establishment.

I created a Unilocal account just to review this place because it was so terrible. Literally the worst teriyaki place I’ve been to, EVER. I walked in to place an order to go, and as I walked up the lady was frantically stapling receipts and arguing loudly in another language with someone I couldn’t see. She didn’t even look up, and continued the yelling as I stood there looking at the menu for about 2 minutes. Generally I don’t care much about customer service, I’m there for the food, but I still thought it was rude. When I finally pulled out my wallet and stared at her, she asked«yes?! What you want today?» I ordered the beef teriyaki and tempura combo, then ran over to Sally’s while waiting. Came back 10 min later and food had just come up. The first lady and another lady were again talk/arguing loudly and I had to ask for soy sauce 3x because they weren’t listening to me. Ugh. Once I got it home and opened it up, I knew it was gonna be bad. First of all, no fork and no fortune cookie! Bad signs. To go orders should ALWAYS have utensils… duh… And the portions were very small!!! Even the ball of rice was teeny. And it was $ 11.99, which is more expensive than a lot of wayyyy better places with bigger portions. There was a small pile of dry grisly beef cut in squares and cold teriyaki sauce squirted on top of it. The salad came with dressing that looked like ranch but tasted like coleslaw, but worse. The tempura batter tasted stale, it wasn’t the panko kind of breading, it was weird puffy bland breading. The tempura sauce was sour and inedible, thank god I asked for soy sauce. Really a terrible experience. Happy Teriyaki by the Lakewood Town Center is a thousand times better(and great customer service too), and its cheaper! I only went here because I needed to run in Sally’s and was craving some teriyaki. My experience has been even if a teriyaki place isn’t GOOD, they’re usually not BAD… however this is an exception. You’ve been warned!

The chicken teriyaki was dry like the Sahara desert. Can’t believe they sold me this junk. Called and complained, they offered to replace only 2 of the chicken teriyakis out of 4. I was in shock and told the gal«no thanks I won’t be coming back».

Uh oh. If this is the best Teri place in Tacoma then I’m gonna be one sad out of towner. 1. The portion size was small. 2. The Teriyaki sauce was salty and thick. 3. The salad sauce was not right. Was it coleslaw? 4. I had a bite of my guys spring roll and it was weird. Americanized as one would put it. I’d like to say frozen fakeness. Anyway, I enjoyed my meal. I’m just saying I’ve had better. WA is home to many many teriyaki joints and I will be happy to continue my search here in Tacoma. As far as this place, I will give it another shot for sure. Maybe try something else. Wait… but I only go to Teri joints for Teriyaki.

I like this Teriyaki joint. I’m in Tacoma/U.P. area and this is one of the few I know I can count on. The owner up front is a friendly addition, and a consistent one, unlike a few of the others with new ownership every 6 months… I stick with the traditional dishes(teriyaki –chicken, Pork, beef, Katsu or General Tso), so I can’t give an elaborate review, but it’s good here!

I’m a teriyaki hunter, looking for the best teriyaki joints in Tacoma. I’ve eaten at so many teriyaki places that I lost count. You could also say I’m a teriyaki expert. I’m also a tempura fanatic, anything I order at teriyaki restaurants has to come with tempura. Good tempura that is. And I love cheap. I came here two months ago after during the same week when I ate at Flying Fish( ) and Wok & Teriyaki( ). I came here hoping this place would have at least tempura, but unfortunately, this is one of the few places that didn’t have it although the restaurant does offers basic teriyaki and pan-asian(aka panda express) dishes. So for a change from eating chicken teriyaki for the third time that week, I ordered the orange chicken… …and it was like eh. Not that special. Not that the food was bad or anything, the orange chicken definitely had authentic orange flavor in it but it had these small orange peel strings that I didn’t like too much and found it to be kinda weird for me. After taking the first 3 – 4 bites, it had a bad aftertaste to it. I don’t think this is something I would order again. The meal came with the usual two scoops of rice and salad. It’s hard to judge this restaurant accurately because I only ordered only one of their dishes and haven’t tried most of their menu, so this review reflects mainly on their orange chicken dish, their price, and the fact they don’t have tempura(my favorite teriyaki dish.) The positive note was that the restaurant is pretty clean. The conclusion: The hunt for the great teriyaki in Tacoma continues.

OMG. This place is so delicious. My favorite chicken katsu in the entire universe comes from here… and trust me. I’ve had a lot of chicken katsu in my lifetime. I’ve had practically every item on the menu, and they’re all damn delicious. The kimchi in the fridge is baller too. And the whole place is just so neat and clean! You can’t go wrong when the owners are Japanese-educated Taiwanese expatriates from Korea. Complicated, I know. But it makes for one amazing teriyaki joint which also serves up authentic dishes from the other corners of East Asia. I wish I could come here more often… but I live in San Diego. That’s 1200 miles of driving. I’ve done it. It was painful. This place was my light at the end of the tunnel.
