Great place just off 6th Ave. in Tacoma. Staff is friendly and know their stuff. Been getting my haircut by Sae for 10 years and always a consistent great cut.

Each of the stylists at this salon rent their own station, and they are in the process of updating the décor in the salon. Jen Bernd has been my go to hair professional for over 4 years, and is very thorough. I have always received compliments on my hair, and she is fabulous with both color and cuts. Even for my almost 3 year old daughter, she really took the time to make sure the cut was very even(since they tend to wiggle) and provided some great recommendations for more conditioning

I went here for a hair cut through living social. My hair stylist was Janette potter. I was very pleased with her service! She was very professional and took her time making me look and feel great. I will definitely go see her again! If you go there and see janette tell her Pepsee sent you! I highly recommend Janette Potter at Vakkar Salon! Thank you!

I’ve gone approximately every six weeks for the past four years to have Jennifer Bernd do my hair. I get a Full Foil on one visit which costs about $ 110(plus tip), and then I get a Partial Foil the next time which costs about $ 80(plus tip). The contrast of color is just enough to look stylish, but never looks outlandish. Jen does an excellent job with my hair. She knows what I like and doesn’t try to ‘surprise’ me. When it’s my suggestion for something different, we discuss the options together so I can be fully aware of what to expect with a different hairstyle/cut. Jen respects that I already use a shampoo and conditioner that I love, and she doesn’t try to ‘push’ or sell products. I have natural curly hair, but like to wear it straight most of the time. Jen takes the time to blow it straight and smooth which looks fantastic, or sometimes uses the flat iron, depending on the look I want at that time. One of the main reasons I wanted to write this review is to rave about the scalp manipulation and shoulder massage during the shampoo! Ooo-la-la! I would probably go back to Jen weekly just to get my hair washed if I lived closer!(I live about an hour away.) She starts with a good shampoo and a rinse. Then she puts on the conditioner and/or toner. At this time, all talking stops! Close your eyes and concentrate on nothing, but breathing. After she has the product distributed throughout your hair, she begins to massage your head. Let me tell you, she doesn’t hurry one bit. Make sure to rest the weight of your head in her hands. She’s got it and won’t let it drop. After several minutes of this, she gives your hair a good rinse, and it’s time to sit up. But wait! It’s not over! Now she takes just a few minutes to rub your shoulders! You’ll be putty in her hands! I keep telling Jen that she doesn’t charge enough compared to other salon stylists who never give the service that she does, but she still hasn’t raised her prices. Maybe one day… Needless to say, I tip my hairstylist nicely! Jen does stay booked up during her business hours so good luck getting an appointment! I book three to four months in advance.

I had thought I finally found a salon that fit me, but alas, no. My stylist had a very hard time keeping my appointments, and attempts to reschedule ended up getting rescheduled again. Just disappointing…

I got the haircut and highlights. The haircut was ok, but the highlights were bad! The color was orange and when asked to be fixed, the stylist recommended to color it all back to the way it was when I arrived, black. I paid for a service that I did not get. I wished the hairstylist would have work with me to fix the problem so that I could still get highlights but this time with the correct color. What a waste of money!!!

Let me start out by saying, the salon itself and the owner seemed nice enough. My warning would be, make sure you know with whom you schedule your appointment. I made an appointment for myself and my daughter. My cut and highlights turned out okay, though they were not what I had in mind when I spoke with the stylist. And really, my daughter’s hair turned out okay, but only because I had to stop the stylist and ask for someone else to come over and fix the unevenness. I still tipped the guy generously and was hoping that the owner or the stylist, because this really was a big deal, would have made some sort of compensation for the almost two hours of my patient six year old sitting mostly still in the chair as the guy hacked away. It was, quite honestly, the worst salon experience I have had. Like I said, the owner, who fixed my daughter’s hair, was quite nice, but perhaps she should hire a little better. Also, when I schedule the appointment I was quoted a price of $ 16 for my daughter’s haircut and was charged $ 25. If the cut had been great I would have gladly paid that or more, but seriously, two hours and we still did not get the cuts we were wanting.
