I was transported in time when I pulled up to El Cerrito. Its right next to the Brass Rail. So its definitely got some Character and Notoriety to it. I parked my Whip right in front in case I needed to make a quick getaway lol. When I entered it was Dark and Dingy. It reminded me of a Dive Bar in East Oakland or some unnamed Border Town. I almost expected to see Benicio Del Toro or Antonio Banderas pop up with a 1911 or a Glock in their waist band. There was Loud Mariachi Music playing from their CD Jukebox. There were quite a few Mexican Cowboys sitting at the Bar. Drinking Cold Beer and eating Chips and Salsa or eating Tacos. There were only 2 Mexican Females in the Bar. One was the Cook and the other was a Bartender /Cook. There’s 2 Bar Pool Tables and a Foosball Table for Entertainment. 2LCD TVs playing Soccer for Entertainment. The Tacquria is located in the Rear of the Bar. I grabbed a seat at the Bar and asked the Cook for a Menu and a Coke. The Bartender brought me a plate of Chips and Salsa. I perused the Menu and ordered a Carne Asada Super Burrito from the Cook. She had a little problem understanding my order. Must be my English. I’m FOB lol so she grabbed the Bartender and she took my order. The cool thing is the Kitchen is Open Air. So you can watch them Cook and Prepare your food. I enjoyed watching them Cook and Construct my Super Burrito. They cooked everything in my Burrito Fresh. My Burrito was delivered with a Grilled Pepper and Hot Sauce. It was Piping Hot !!! That Damn Burrito was Good it tasted great it was a very Juicy One . This Mexican food is as Authentic as it can get. El Cerrito is Strictly Cash Only !!! No Credit Cards. But they do have an ATM machine in the Bar. I paid my Tab and rolled out . Definitely Baller On A Budget Approved !!!

Not the friendliest of service but the super burritos are the bomb for $ 7. Highly recommended.

People raving about their burritos being the best ever I totally disagree. Are you kidding me? I had better. In fact, it’s one of the worst burritos I ever eaten. Very greasy and terrible. If I could I would give this place zero. This place is very sketchy. I wouldn’t recommend anybody coming here, especially if you’re not from this area if you know what I mean. Lol And if you are concern about your safety. I feared for my life while I was inside I felt I was going to get mugged it’s that atrocious.

Good prices, friendly atmosphere, and tasty food! I go frequently for lunch. The only reason I’m not giving five stars is because the building could use a face lift.

Hole in the wall with excellent offerings. The camarones empanizados here are one of the best Mexican dishes I’ve had. The kitchen is open to the main room and you can watch your food be prepared to order. The staff is friendly and, while native Spanish speaking, have no trouble conversing in English.

The food here is great! A little bit pricy for some dishes, but worth trying.

The real deal. It’s like I drove to Mexico for lunch. Friggin’ awesome food, cold beer, and friendly people. No linen napkins for Biff and Muffy, and no organic wheat grass juice for the eco-set. Just a straight up tasty Mexican meal. 5-stars, all the way. Love it!

El Cerrito is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Ive been going there for decades and Ive never had a bad meal. The décor isnt what you go for. but the wonderful staff and the reasonably priced food makes it all worth while. Great selection variety. Its a secret im not sure I should be sharing.

My friend Scott took me here for my first time. And I was a little nervous when I got there because the place itself appeared kind of shady. I mean for god sakes its a neighbor to a trashy topless bar! As I got closer to the place I wasn’t even sure it was open, because it had no signs. But my friend assured me that it was open, so we went in. The place itself was very open, it had a bar, a pool room, and a all female staff. Which I find hilarious because they were all conservative Mexican mothers working next to basically a strip club. Any way, we ordered a ton of tacos. And I have got to say that the Al Pastor tacos were pretty awesome! They were definitely my favorite and the best I’ve had. I will definitely return to this place for some more Al Pastor tacos and authentic Mexican food. Always Twerkin for Jesus, E. Quachie

Talk about a real F N Mexican joint. Load music, ice cold beer and the burritos are bomb. Not to much to look at actually it’s pretty getto but if the most getto places give you the best food then F it. We need more places like this in the bay. Old freakin school. Love it!!!

Best burritos in the south bay no doubt. Coldest Corona I’ve ever had. Plus it’s next door to the Brass Rail.

Labeled the«scary taqueria» by my co-workers, we finally decided to brave the place for lunch. Really shady looking on the outside, it’s actually pretty normal inside. An old 70’s bar with a Mexican restaurant in the back, they have taqueria fare and some entrees in the mix. For such a dive the prices weren’t really all that cheap but the food was actually pretty decent. Good asada, al pastor and tripa. It’s not going to beat Latina and Ruby’s nearby but worth a trip for the novelty factor. 3.5 stars.

EDITED: Wow, I have to take my stars from 4 to 1. I ate here with a couple of girl friends the other night and we all puked a few hours later. :(When I talked to another friend about it, they said, ‘yeah, that’s why I don’t eat there anymore! Did you get the chicken?’ I DID get the chicken… ewwwww. Plus — their nachos are now 12 $! WTF?! They’ve gone from 7 $ to12 $ in a year… Mexican bandas, cheap beer and good Mexican food can all be found here at El Cerrito Mexican Restaurant. If you don’t speak Spanish though, you might have to resort to pointing at the pics on the wall, or at least speaking very slowly. I’ve never seen another person in there that wasn’t a Latino. I love this kinda place though and everytime I’ve been in, they’ve been nice and the food has been good.(Once it was a lil too salty but mostly it’s good.) I order and recommend things like the Super Nachos, Chicken Quesadillas or Carnitas Tacos. Buyer Beware though… Their green salsa is Hot! HAha. One thing I did notice on my last order, their prices have gone up. :( It’s hidden away and a little hard to find. It’s on a side street that runs along 237 so you have to curve back and around the cement highway wall to get to it. It shares a parking lot with The Brass Rail… maybe that’s why the prices can go up! Haha.
