Love this place. My chauffeur turned me on to this gem. Super Michelada and Super Quesadilla are my go to meals. Salsa bar is excellent and you get a free bag of chips with every order. They have a nice selection of agua frescas as well. Love me some jamaica! Beat the crowds at Chavez and head here instead, it’s not the same but you will be pleasantly surprised how tasty Tres Potrillos can be.

Food is Good but horrible customer service. Cashier stand in front of you and don’t even greet you and just keep doing whatever they are doing. Very rude!

Speedy service! I called ahead to place a pick up order for myself and the girls in the office. The girl who took my order made sure to repeat everything back to me to make sure it was correct. She told me it would be ready within 5 – 10 minutes and she was right! I got there within 5 minutes and she even labeled my bags to make it easier for us to know who’s order was who’s. When I walked in it was packed with people so I appreciate their quick service. It’s in a small plaza next to Chavez Super Market. I tried the grilled chicken taco salad and it was delicious. The chicken was well marinated and had a little spice to it. Very flavorful overall and I’d definitely come back!

Unpretentious spot in Sunnyvale. I was getting my smog check and decided to walk over and get a burrito for lunch. It was still a bit early(11:15am on a weekday) and there were only about two people inside. What I swallowed: REGULARCARNITASBURRITO with NOBEANS, DOUBLERICE and GUACAMOLE. The burrito was pretty small in comparison to other regular size burritos in the area. The meat was tasty but considering I got double rice, it was a pretty thin burrito. HORCHATA: This was pretty good, not too sweet and not too gritty. Very refreshing. I’m glad I tried this place but with all the other varieties of burrito places in the vicinity, I think I’ll keep burrito taste testing.

Tres Potrillos is your typical hole-in-the-wall Mexican food. It serves the typical fare like burriitos, tacos, quesdillas and more. What I appreciated was that it had a special section for vegetarian options. I ended up ordering the cheese enchilada dinner plate. I mean it was nothing out of the ordinary but it did the job. They did give a decent quantity of food, which nice because other places would skimp out to make your food feel as cheap as possible. The biggest driving factor for Tres Potrillos is the fact that its open late. On a weekday, it’s one of the only places open past 10PM. You can tell that people appreciate this because there were a decent number of people on a random Wednesday night. Truth be told though, the immediate view of the place is dingy. It didn’t help that the sign had a different name than Tres Potrillos. If you can get past that, its a decent place. This place definitely doesn’t top my list for late night places but it is one I can appreciate to visit every now and then. Their large menu and their timings make it decent option when push comes to shove. TL;DR Pros — Decent food — Well Priced — Large Menu — Open Late Cons — Dingy surroundings — Sign says different name

I swung by with my amiga during our lunch break and we were craving California burritos. Thus, we got California burritos. It wasn’t as good as other California burritos but there were some good points from it. I enjoyed the toastiness/crispiness of the tortilla and the meat was delish. I got the chile verde, but looking back at it I should’ve gotten a less moist meat cause my French fries were pretty soaked!(Soaked with flavor though…). I’ll probably be back again because I enjoyed the quick service and they have a bigash menu.

I’ve eaten here a few times. This place is on my observation list. It hasn’t made it to my short list… yet. But it is quickly getting there. I judge my Taqueria’s on their carnita products. So far, I’ve been impressed. I like the fact that they have a salsa bar and chips. I’m going to try it a few more times and let you know. When I can say, this place is good. Give it a try for yourself and see. They also opened a location in Willow Glen. I will probably go check that place out since it’s closer to my house. So far so good…

I absolutely love this place! My family’s been going here for over twelve years after we visit Our Lady of Peace nearby. The staff is friendly, the layout is spacious, and there always seems to be a good amount of people dining. As a kid, I used to get the plates to assemble my own burritos, but now I just prefer ordering 3 tacos(only tripas, they’re so good). I don’t know if menudo is only served on weekends anymore, but we get that too. My brother likes the flautas. I want to try the shrimp cup dish, not sure what it’s called. For drinks, I love their fresh orange juice or squeezed carrot juice. Plus they have free nacho bar which is cool. The radishes go well with the tacos. The red sauce with peppers and onions is my favorite. We have a lot of memories at Tres Potrillos and will continue to make more. Definitely recommend! :)

Total hole in the wall place. We were visiting friends who live in the area and we picked up dinner for the four of us. Two entrees(the carne asada plate and the molcajete) were plenty for all of us. We also made rice to eat with the molcahete, which was like a seafood and meat stew. I loved it — has some spice and the broth is pretty clean and light. The carne asada plate was a miss — the meat was dry and tasteless and the guacamole portion was small. But for the price and the quantity, I’d definitely go back(although I was bothered by the fact that they charge for salsa and chips!).

I ordered food through a delivery service tonight. This review is ONLY based on the restaurant. I really really wanted a chile relleno. So I ordered the chile relleno, enchilada, and taco combo. When I get my food, no chile relleno. So I contact the delivery service, they contact the restaurant, and ask for the missing items. When I get the second delivery, it wasn’t even close to what I ordered, and still no chile relleno. This is not the first time I’ve had problems with this place. But this was the last. If you can’t make the correct food, why offer them on the menu??? Oh and BTW, some people don’t like their tacos doused in super spicy salsa. That should be an option. I couldn’t even eat it. Thanks for the huge disappointment.

DON’T get the Super burrito. Save your money and buy the regular one. It came with too much greasy cheese, barely any sour cream, and a Smear… Yes a Smear… Of guacamole. I asked for PICO de gallo in mine, and they completely forgot that as well. My friend ordered 3 crispy tacos– they all came soft. Not crispy. PROS: open late CONS: quality of food

Hands-down, the best Mexican food in Sunnyvale… which isn’t that hard to do, considering there aren’t that many other options! In all seriousness, Tres Potrillos’ burritos(when they are consistent) are the best. They have mostly everything that you could want in a taqueria, and then some. Their offerings range from tacos, camarones, tortas, mojarra, to the big boy grill platter– molcajete. One major highlight is the carnitas, which is delicioius. It’s usually on special and they’ll give you huge chunks of it. Some traditionalists like their carnitas to be fried and crispy, but I prefer my carnitas to be juicy and fatty, which is what we have here. Their salsa is pretty good, especially the«pico,» and their Micheladas are not bad either! Also, they recently introduced a punch-card, where you will get ~$ 6 off your 10th meal. However, I wish the prices were a little more reasonable. It’s $ 9 for a super burrito, whereas most other places are in the sub-$ 8 range. Plates here are usually $ 12−13+. I literally come here at least twice a week, and I have yet to order something I didn’t like.

I can’t vouch much for the authenticity of this place as I wouldn’t really know, but the burritos are quite good and there are plenty of options to choose from. I usually get the carnitas, and the meat is well-cooked, not too oily like some other places, and flavorful. Each meal comes with a bag of chips as a nice bonus, and you can grab all of the salsa that you’d like at the bar. I’ve seen no issues with cleanliness, and the tables are wiped clean regularly by the employees. The burritos generally come with rice, meat, beans, and sour cream and could benefit from some more guacamole if there’s any in there. At $ 9 with a bag of chips and salsa though, it’s not a bad deal but not super-cheap either. There aren’t a lot of decent mexican options in Sunnyvale, and Tres Potrillos is worth checking out.

I am catching up on all reviews of places that I’ve been to years ago but haven’t written reviews for them yet. Next up is Tres Potrillos, I go here anytime I have a craving for authentic Mexican food. It’s a small hole in the wall off of Fair Oaks in a plaza next to a Chavez Supermarket. It is walking distance from me so I can walk there anytime and get some exercise in the process. As for parking, it is not a problem, just park on the side of the restaurant so you can keep an eye on your car.
The menu is complete for a Taqueria, they have a lot of choices and pretty much anything you want. I typically get the crispy tacos which have a light crispy shell filled with any meat of your choice and piled with lettuce, salsa, cheese, etc. Their burritos are decent, quite big for the price. Their chicken quesadillas are nice, fills me up with one order. They provide free chips and salsa, just grab a bag and fill’er up. Take as much salsa as you want too, they have lots to choose from. They ALWAYS have the soccer channel on the tv so don’t expect Monday Night Football or any American football for that matter. It’s not as cheap as nearby taco trucks in the area, but the price is expected to be a little higher since they are an actual restaurant. Recommended!

Been here a few times over the years and its a decent spot to come to for some mexican food. Its usually pretty busy around lunch time but you can typically find a table if you want to eat it there. I usually get a regular wet carne asada burrito with the red sauce. The meat is cooked well and the burrito has a good flavor. While this place is good, I don’t crave their burritos enough to come back often. Overall, If you’re in the area and are looking for some mexican food, give this place a try.

For a 10 pm on a weeknight, this place was bumpin’ when my boyfriend and I stopped by. He had a hankering for a burrito, Tres Potrillos was open late and I needed a meal stat. We settled on burritos, I got ordered mine w/carne asada and he ordered the carnitas based on all the rave reviews. $ 22 later we’re digging into these things but notice that A. it’s not very hot and B. my tortilla is all greasy and his isn’t? The flavors of the Carne Asada were really good, the meat was both flavorful and tender– I’d definitely recommend getting that meat choice again, but I’d consider skipping a burrito order and going for tacos or a fajita plate. It was tasty, but a personal pet peeve of mine is when they are inconsistently heated(Beans were HOT, meat was lukewarm, cheese wasn’t melted, rice was lukewarm, tortilla was cold). Also I really feel like I should have ordered the Carne Asada Fries, and in fact will, next time I am in the area because those looked too legit to quit.

My favorite taqueria in Sunnyvale! Yes, the place looks«interesting» but don’t let it scare you! The food is delicious and the staff is friendly! I love the pollo asado burrito. I usually come here in off hours so it’s never been super busy and I’ve never had a wait. I came here with a larger group once(about 6 of us) and they forgot my burrito [sad face]. I asked them about it and they were super nice about it and brought it out very quickly! Also, I love the chips and salsa bar. So good.

If you are looking for cheap and authentic Mexican cuisine, look no further… The place looks no better than yet another shady and shabby restaurant, but the phrase, don’t judge a book by its cover, totally suits the place… Taking off the one star only for the ambience, which I think can be improved quite a lot… I have come here multiple times and so have come across more than one favorites from the place… Carne Asada Fries, Veggie Burrito, Veggie and Chicken Tacos and the Molcajete… The Molcajete is an amazing dish with loads of flavor and taste and a blend of all the meats out there… It has chicken, steak, sausage and shrimp loaded with vegetables and peppers… When going for this dish, I would suggest to go with another person as this dish can easily serve two people… Their Chicken/Veggie Tacos would be the next in line of my favorites at this place… There is free parking available… You can get one bag of chips with each order… Their salsa bar is just amazing…

At first, I wasn’t sure about coming here due to that«bugs!!» review posted by another Unilocaler but I AMGLAD I RECONSIDERED! I saw many local Mexican people come into this place and y’know the saying goes: if it’s good enough for locals, then the food is damn good. So, I came in, ordered an enchilada plate and a side of marinated pork soft taco. The whole thing was damn good. I wanted more. I ordered a plate of marinated pork hard tacos. Gosh! I was stuffed after polishing off everything along with two bags of chips. Yes! I was that hungry and the food IS that good! I will come back whenever I’m in the area and hankering for some –good–(and I mean G O O D) Mexican food!
