Ok so this place has been closed forever. Hell they tore up the whole area and the construction has been going on for years. But this was one of the very few a la carte Filipino places I knew of and they made solid fare. Short ribs, crispt pata, and of course adobo. I remember they had this kicking setup for parties, though I only came for lunch. Anyone know if these owners ever setup shop somewhere else? RIP

i use to live in sunnyvale and sometimes you just crave flip food at 11pm. but if you come during that time of the night, expect filipino swing dancers and drunken karaōke goers that mix up their p’s with their f’s. i’ve been here during restaurant hours. always get the crispy pata!(fried ham hocks). sinigang(tamarind soup), and lumpia is to die for. just like they do in the philippines. the only thing is this place is sometimes closed at random business hours. also, it can be a little inconsistent, you never know when they are doing a buffet rather than serving. i hear the buffet is not that great. but when i go, i always walk out satisfied.

First things first: I haven’t actually eaten here. But this is the reasoning behind my rating. I’ve tried to come here to eat multiple times, and each time I was turned away for some inexplicable reason. A couple times, Boracay has been closed during their posted business hours. It was not a holiday, and there was no indication as to why it wouldn’t be open, it was just closed — no one there, lights off, doors locked. Upon another attempt, I was turned away by employees that were sitting around and playing cards. They explained that the cook wasn’t there and wouldn’t be back until 10PM or so. Why keep your restaurant open if you can’t even serve food? I really did want to try Boracay, as their menu seemed interesting and I had never tried Filipino cuisine before. But how can I, when they’re never open or can’t serve anything? Without even trying their food, I’m already turned off and will take my business elsewhere.

I get excited when I learn of a Filipino restaurant in the area(since there are few), and I can’t wait to try it out. It is such a disappointment when it’s not as good as I expect it to be. If I could give this place no stars, I would, but they earned one for the authentic dcor. I felt like I was back in the Philippines. Just don’t be fooled with the ambience. The kitchen lacked efficiency. We waited 45 minutes before the first entre arrived at our table. It took another 15 minutes for the other entre to come. The pancit was okay, but the broiled fish was bland and dry. Our server receives 0 stars for her lack of service. Dessert was served without clearing our table of used dishes. Afterwards, upon our request, she took what was left of the pancit to wrap it up for us, only to set it down on the table next to us, and left. To add to her lack of attentiveness, we waited for our check well after we requested for it. Then we waited for her to take our payment. 0 stars also goes to the owner, who, throughout this whole experience, was gossiping with the server when the server should’ve been taking care of the customers. By this time, I just about had it, gave them my money, and left.

Two stars just for making me feel like I was at a beach resort in the Philippines. They even have karaōke and a dance floor. Unfortunately I went for the food. I added a star because they serve hot pan de sal, but the rest of the food was fatty, smothered in sauce(and still tasteless), and overcooked. I think I’ll be sticking to my favorites from now on… Kuya’s, Toppings, Sinugba, etc.

I’ve been here several times now, but each time for catered events so it was a buffet-style dinner. It’s not a huge restaurant, but the décor is authentically Filipino. The food is very homestyle here, which is why I like it! The cool part was they continued to cook so that any food that was refreshed was straight from the grill! So we were never out of hot/warm lumpia shanghai! The selection was just ok, but then again, both occasions were for a catered party, so the food was most likely hand-picked by the event planner. I have yet to order from the menu, and will update this when I do. The karaōke system is pretty nice too and with their wireless mic system, you can walk around the restaurant and sing to/with the other patrons!

Eating at Filipino restaurants can be hit or miss. However, Boracay Tropical Grill is pretty darn good. The décor is beautiful compared to other Filipino restaurants. The prices are reasonable and the service was great. I think they do the whole karaōke thing on friday and saturday nights.
