R.I.P. Seek this place out. Food is great. Prices can’t even deter. Best jambalaya that I have paid for from a restaurant in years. Spicy, savory, and loaded with seafood.

Can’t really give you 5 stars! Drove by today and you were gone, I’m crying on the inside! Where are you? I’m hurt to my core! Come back please. Was it something I did? I came over and you are closed down! Why? Why? Why? Ooo, an your number is disconnected. !!! Update: I called the Sacramento location(916) 399‑8800 and asked what was up. She said that they are looking for a new location for us Stockton folks, which is good and bad at the same time. Good because it was way out east and I’m out north, bad because I really need my «fix» today.

I never had any issues with the place the several times I’ve been. The service is professional and prompt, and the food is fresh. They cook as you order. The dessert is abundant and condiments are on counter. If there’s any problem it’s with the patrons in and around the restaurant and city, not use to good food.

Reading these reviews I was afraid to try the food, but I went anyway being an Oakland native familiar with JJ’S. After eating catfish and oysters, I’m wondering what’s the problem? The food was fried fresh, I wasn’t in there forever. There isn’t a «mountain» of fries to disguise the fact that there are small portions, because the portions are fine. The lemonade tasted like what happens when a shaved ice starts to melt and you drink it with a straw… in other words, it’s delicious. The only thing that happened was… I didn’t order oysters, I ordered prawns. and I didn’t get hot sauce but neither are deal breakers. The location doesn’t bother me I’ve been to worse neighborhoods but it is kinda hood in that area, not necessarily right where JJ’S is located.

The oysters are always cooked the way I like them, can’t get enough of these hugh sea serpents. The jumbo shrimp are really jumbo and with the tartar sauce and hot sauce you have a royal feast. Wanted dessert, but were tooooo full, maybe next time. This was my oldest sons first time and he loved it, he is a loyal seafood lover – especially oysters. My son’s wife was impressed with the amount of catfish, fries & fried okra she recieved. All three of our orders was less than $ 50.00 with sodas and lemonades. We will return. On our way out, we ran into relatives. See, my family knows where to go for some good eating!

A couple months ago my daughter came home with JJ’s chicken and the one piece I had was really good. Decided to try today and was a bit disappointed … Ordered the Wing shrimp combo… Chicken reminded me of a verse from the Sugarhill Gang«and the chicken taste like wood». Dry tasteless, wood like wings. Shrimp was no better… Dry, shriveled up shrimp!!! The flour they used must have been old as the color of the chicken wasn’t golden brown, it was drab brown. For dessert I tried the coconut cake… Taste like it was an old frozen cake that was thawed out and sliced. Small container of coleslaw was watery and unappealing to say the least… the worst store brought I. Have ever tasted. Will not be returning… smh

Who: My Husband and I. When: lunch on a random Wednesday. What: 2 Fish Combos(comes with fries and bread) 1. Catfish and Red Snapper 2. Orange Roughy($ 2.00 extra) and Shrimps(tail off) Not fond of the location but from what I was told by my Husband all JJ locations are in the ghetto. The combination plates are pricey(almost 11 bucks) for a 2 item combo, so don’t go here if you low on ends and lookin’ for a deal. This is a sit down restaurant and everything is made fresh to order. It took about almost 15 min before we got our food. If your’re in a hurry, just call ahead. Our food was pretty good… We haven’t had fried food in a while so we were kinda into it. Generous portions(I had leftovers) The employees were friendly and took pride in their work cause the inside was pretty clean. I see myself coming here to satisfy my fried fish cravings(only in the day time though!)

I was very excited to see a new restaurant in the area, lucky for us it’s a good place too. The food is good and fresh, staff is friendly, only wish the seating and outdoor lighting was better

Unfortunately, as with many places, routine has set in and it’s becoming just average. Too bad, so sad.

I first tried this place out in Oakland about 7 years ago and I thought JJ’s was the best restaurant living in the(South Va.) all of my life. JJ’s has ventured out to Stockton and it is just ok.(Maybe my taste buds has changed a little). *(Fried catfish was not bad with tiger prawns shrimp) *(Many homemade desserts to choose from) *(Fried chicken wasn’t bad either) Services was great along with price for what you get.

Not too impressive. I can’t speak for the chicken, just the snapper, catfish, jumbo shrimp & fries. Maybe it’s because I don’t usually eat entire meals that are deep fried, but I didn’t feel very well after we stopped in for a quick dinner bite. I had the red snapper, but sampled the other entrées at our table. Everything just tasted the same to me I guess. The catfish was horrible– No one ate any of it. Fries were okay. The meal was a little overpriced for what we received, or maybe it just felt lack luster because deep frying can do that. I did like the coleslaw though! You really have to make sure to eat your veggies among all those proteins, fats, and carbs. I might come back to try dessert, but I don’t usually venture into the neighborhood after dark.

This place is entirely way too expensive for what you get. Don’t be fooled by the overwhelming presence of french fries with each platter disguising the lack of fried seafood or chicken. If you’ve already had dinner, this is a great place for dessert like banana pudding and red velvet cake.

We don’t have anything like this in East CoCo County and it was worth the drive. We ordered shrimp, catfish nuggets, crab cakes, and chicken. All were good except the crab cakes; they were made with imitation crab. The fresh lemonades are excellent. We’ve been to the Vallejo location and the food is just the same, great!

A wonderful place to treat yourself to a bounty of deep fried goodness… I’ve been to JJ’s twice and have tried the deep fried prawns, fried catfish, red snapper, and hush puppies. Everything that I have ordered has been exceptionally good, despite them being a bit stingy with their cole slaw serving sizes… The restaurant itself is fairly clean and doesn’t reek of old grease… I really like that they kept the former occupant’s door handles(Weiner Snitchell)… Kind of gives it a familiar but slightly ghetto fabulous feel… The lingering hookers also add to this vibe, but hey it is Wilson Way… and a girl has got to work!!! The staff is pleasant and seem to actually like working there(must get free food, even though they all appear to be skinny)… On my visit today the manager came by my table and gave me and my dining partner a dollar-off coupon for our next visit. Nice gesture since the prices are a little above average, but the portions are HUGE and make up for that… I will definitely be back to try more items. The menu selection is humongous!!! I hear the desserts, especially the Red Velvet cake are good… I will definitely have to save room on my soon to be next visit…

I cannot comment on the fish, but the chicken here is «make you want to slap your Mama good»(and I love my Mama). I had the chicken thigh dinner, which comes with 4 huge thighs, tons of fries, and 2 pieces of bread. It is a ton of food for the $ 6 – 7 price tag. I could only eat ½ the meal before placing it in the fridge for later. The chicken has a good crust to it that doesn’t peel away like KFC, Popeye’s, Church’s, etc. The fries are kind of just there as an afterthought, as they are usually caked in crust residue from the fryer. I could careless as the chicken is the star for me. Try the Sweet Potato Pie or Peach Cobbler as good dessert after wards. You already ate like a glutton, so might as well put the cherry on top. Pro-Tip: Marvel watching the guy who sells bootleg designer purses in the parking lot and realize your dining in a former Weinerschnitzel.

I’m not crazy about the location, but the food is excellent if you are into soul food. I enjoy the catfish nuggets and shrimp baskets. Portions are more than enough(the side orders could be larger), even for a small and price is reasonable. Inside the ambiance is descent… flat screen cable t.v., clean and spacious! You can call ahead of time for pick-up because it can get busy, but food is best when it just came off the stove! They do catering too!

Was very excited on the first trip. Thoroughly enjoyed myself some Catfish nuggets & fell in love with their fried zucchini. Their house tartar sauce really set off the fish and everything was a treat. The price is approaching high, but you get a good sized serving for the price. Now that was the first trip I knocked off 2 stars due to the results of the second trip. It was still tasty still liked the fries the catfish wasn’t quite as good as the first time, but the meal itself ended up repeating one me. Could have simply been the fact all things fried may have just been too much. Still I did enjoy it. CATFISH is what I feel makes the place worth the visit. The chicken is just OK, but the SIZE of the servings make up for the lack of taste. All the sides are a bit disappointing unless its a fried item sad to say.

Not good value for the money! French Fries — good Cat Fish — good Gizzards — bad Chicken Wings — meh Lemonade — good Red Snapper — meh Seafood Gumbo — meh Two of us for lunch. Total: $ 40.81 !!! yikes! Lunch buddy said«Not good value for the money!» We both had two item combos…$ 10.89 each He had chicken wings and catfish. Said the catfish was good. Didn’t care for the chicken wings. I had gizzards and red snapper. Gizzards were really tough. I don’t like wasting food but I did not eat half of them. For God’s sakes, par boil them or steam them so they are edible and THEN batter them and deep fry them. The red snapper was not fresh. The batter they use on the fish is not conducive to setting under a warmer. The hand-squeezed lemonade is pretty good. It’s mixed with a slushy ice almost like a Slurpee. The seafood gumbo is served with white rice.
For $ 6 bucks you would think that you would actually get some soup to eat. Nope. this serving was filled with chicken bones and small parts of crab legs still in the shell. think cioppino style. Problem is there is not much room for the liquid. And who wants to sit there cracking small pieces of crab while you are supposed to be eating gumbo. Not a good idea. IF I ever go again(doubt it), I would probably try the cat fish and/or shrimp.
