Bottley’s BBQ

Ribs not to my liking at all. They are certainly not as the picture shows. Just pieces of meat on little bones. Tasted more like baked and not barbequed. No flavor is what I mean. The beans were good though and that’s about it.

Hello everyone. This is my second time going to Bartleys barbecue. I made the mistake of buying two Groupon’s from this restaurant. The first time I came in it took me three different times before I could even use the Groupon do to them closing a few minutes early, saying I needed to call or just a lot of other BS. On the Groupon it does say call when you coming to pick up your order but it does not say you must call before picking up your order. So here I come today like a fool to pick up some barbecue from these people… I was totally shocked once again when the person at the counter told me I beat you to call because they ran out of the food that they fix those plates with. Now that sounds like some total idiot excuse but I said what’s the difference between the regular plates of food and this good? The lady then say that if I wanted this single Groupon of barbecue food that I could call in and she would have a plate ready for me at 1:30 or 2 o’clock. I just shook my head because this place is unbelievable. So to make a long story short she would not fill my order and she made it clear that she basically did not need my business. Sold to anyone who rolls the dice and take a chance on coming to this barbecue spot good luck! The first time I tasted the food it was terrible but I thought maybe the cook had an off day so I went back and paid for food another time and it was not as bad but it was definitely close. So to anyone who tries this barbecue hole in the wall, rat joint good luck. I’d rather lose this Groupon than go back to this place where there is no such thing as customer service but there is apparently a such thing as terrible dry old food. I have come to the conclusion these people want you to call in and they will always tell you the time to pick up your food will be after lunch or after their dinner rush. They want to sell all the fresh food to the people who have cash on hand and the old food goes to those with the Groupon’s. What a crock of crap!

Used my groupon today… surprisingly the order over the phone was easy. read a few other people had problems redeeming their groupon vouchers. Called at 330PM… they said the riblets would be ready at 5. I thought to myself… YES! I get fresh ribs! (read some other people had old ribs)…
Now onto the food… The chicken was sooo dry… i mean literally hard and dry… couldn’t tell if its old or they overcooked it. Riblets… same as chicken.horrid. Baked beans seems like it was doused in ketchup. Mac and cheese tasted like just macaroni mixed with half n half n a blend of cheese. (normal I guess).
I could barely stand the value I got for the $ 9ish i paid for the groupon voucher (I had a local discount as well)…i can’t imagine paying full price for it ~ $ 20.
Only peeve I had was when I asked for some hot bbq sauce, she asked if I wanted a little container (figured those regular to go mini sauce containers), I said sure! She said…$ 2.50. I changed my mind in a quickness. lol

I called and placed my order and used a Groupon I had purchased. I was a little late to pick up my order and the lady said she gave my order to someone else. She never even called me to tell me my order was ready. She said sometimes people place orders and never pick them up. Well I’m not one of them people! She should of called me. now I’m sitting here waiting again for my order. I hope it is worth the wait… so I waited about 10– 15 min but it was not worth the wait not worth even a dime! I don’t know what animals bbq’d and served me omg that is some or nastiest meat I have ever tasted idk what kind of ribs or what the heck that was I will never ever ever go back to this place or recommend anyone coming here. Everything the mac and cheese beans and omg the cornbread taste like it’s made of the cheapest corn known to man! All nasty not worth even trying this place I don’t know how it’s still open! DON’T GO TO BOTLEYS MY WHOLE ORDER IS GOING STRAIGHT IN THE TRASH! BUNCH OF GARBAGE!

nice place. ma and pa feel. i got the groupon and it was good. gooey mac and cheese, baked beans, chicken, and ribs with corn bread. you can definetly smell the smokey aroma of the bbq. very nice.

It has that homely feel. I ordered the gumbo and it was delicious tastes just like it would be out of your grandmas kitchen. The potato salad was very good. I would definitely recommend this spot and I will be coming back :)

One thing you can count on at Bottley’s BBQ is consistency. They have been around Stockton for decades. I first tasted their food when they were on west Fremont Street. Not much has changed over the years. Decent food.
Today I used an expired Groupon. The promotional value of a Groupon has an expiration date but the money you paid for it never expires. Thank you to Bottley’s for honoring that today.
I ordered chicken, ribs and potato salad. I received chicken, ribs and baked beans. I would’ve rather had the potato salad that I ordered but the beans worked. Nothing spectacular… the beans would benefit from some bits of meat in them. When there is rib meat left over at the end of the day chop it up and throw it in the beans. The ribs were good as was the chicken. Both were properly cooked with a good smoke flavor. Both meats were tender and the rib meat separated from the bone easily.
They usually have some kind of coupon or discount going on. Now there is a discount coupon on Unilocal so watch for those.
Family-​run by friendly folks. I enjoyed my short talk with Mr. Bottley. He has been around Stockton for a long time. We both go way back and reminisced about when downtown Stockton was a thriving area!

I love coming here, the food is always great and the people are friendly. The 49ers décor is unique and a personal touch. The ribs are the best! The fish isn’t really special though. Chicken is pretty good. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time when going, even when I have called it in, I still had to wait 40 minutes (it was a very large order though).

Not the best bbq I’ve had. First off no customers were in the restaurant and the workers barley talked to us. The tables and chairs are all miss matched and I was a little skeptical while waiting for my food while hearing what sounded like food in a microwave. I absolutely love cornbread and this was the worst cornbread I’ve ever had. It was not homemade, it looked pre made and just simply heated up and dry. I got a pulled pork sandwich which came with very little meat on the inside of a typical hamburger bun. Ended up not eating the bun and just eating the meat inside with a fork. The meat was ok.

Luckily I bought a Groupon for this place.
The first time I went there, they stated that they could not honor the groupon that day. They stated that they only honor the groupon on the week days. That was not stated in the fine print.
The second time I went to order my food, they stated that they could not do it because it was too late in the day. Never heard of this.
The third time I called early in the morning! Figured this would give them enough time to bbq my food. At first they stated that they could not take anymore orders! I explained that this was my third attempt, so they finally agreed to make it.
Now for the food…
The ribs did not have any sauce and looked nothing like the pictures on Unilocal.
The beans tasted like they had a lot of ketchup in them.
The cornbread was ok, not sweet enough.
The chicken was ok but lacked bbq sauce and was not fully cooked.
I think that my food was rushed just to fulfill the order.
I hope that they improve on their management as I would like to see them make it.

Very slow service and meal didn’t taste well at all. The décor was awful, dusty and outdated. I would suggest you go to Smitty’s Wings on Yosemite on Saturday afternoon for BBQ ribs and comfort food.

Horrible customer service and rude. I purchased a Groupon and tried to use it twice both times they told me I cannot use it. The first time I tried to order on a weekday and they told me that it was too late and people usually use them on the weekends. Then I tried to use on a Sunday and they said that they are not allowed redeem them on Sunday football games. Which these were not stated on the Groupon.

Yummy food. Love the potato salad. Family restaurant with the sweetest people. Traveling through town with my family and enjoyed chatting and laughing with them before going back to LA. It was overall a lovely experience:)

5 stars, that is what our daughter rate this place, since this is the only place that she ate anything with BBQ sauce on :)
She ate BBQ pork riblets with medium spicy BBQ sauce with Mac n cheese and fries.
Hubby and me are agree about how good are their BBQ chicken, way better then brisket and riblets.
Baked bean and coleslaw are sweet.
Fries are perfect with really good seasoning, no need for ketchup or ranch.
Cheesy Mac n cheese.
Potato salad missing a little bit Dijon mustard kick.

Where to start… very disappointed sums it up.
I have eaten here twice and this is not good BBQ… not even close! I may be a bit biased as I’m from the south where it’s hard to find bad bbq.
The ribs had that «day old» taste and were really, really dry. Both times I ordered ribs/​links and they gave me ribs/​chicken instead. The food is not fresh so I don’t understand why it takes so long to fulfill an order.
Potato salad is mashed potatoes with mustard. The beans taste like VanDeCamps Pork-​n-​beans with added sugar. Seating area is outdated and dusty. At least dust off all the crap on the walls.
Just all around not good BBQ. In fact, I have not found good BBQ in Stockton at all but Botley’s will never get my money again.

Disappointed. Had high hopes after reading 5 star reviews here. I wish I could give 5 stars as well.
Requested to have mild and medium BBQ sauce on the side so we could taste the ribs by themselves first. We got the Famous Beef Ribs and Award Winning Pork Ribs. Beef ribs were really dessicated! and you can’t even scrape the shrunken meat off. Pork ribs were average, with ok flavor, and tender but not succulent or fall off the bone.
Sauces were runny and lacking in flavor.
Maybe it was because it was later in the day?
Service was good and friendly though.

best BBQ in town. Ribs so juicy & tender they fall apart in your mouth. try it with the hot BBQ sauce. potato salad better than moms! my boyfriend can’t live without the gumbo. One bite wasn’t enough. next time I’ll get my own bowl cuz he ain’t sharing! delish!

Some of the best BBQ ever.
Homemade everything. Sides and dessert are all tasty.
With that said its like having a picnic. Paper plates and plastic forks but its the food I come back for. If you don’t like eating in, pick it up.
Mr. Bottley’s BBQ sauce can get super spicy. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Interesting décor. Big 49ers fans. TVs on with some reality tv (springer etc lol).
Service with a smile. It’s family owner and operated.

3 star BBQ, 5 star people.
I had the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and finished off with a serving of peach cobbler.
We spent a good while chatting with them here while we waited for our lunch and after we finished up.
Local BBQ is always better…

I had the ribs with macaroni n cheese and yams and mmmm it was excellent
I tried the super hot sauce at first but had to tone it. Down a bit so I could taste the meat. Whew talk bout hot lol but it was really sweet too. The atmosphere was great.
