I was there Oct 3 and it was closed, signage gone. Hope they are relocating cause the food was awesome.

Did this place close down? Every time I try to go there they’re closed. The schedule says they should be opened but the lights are off and the place looks abandoned. I’ve been going there for 20 years now and the food is great. But if they sold a bunch of groupons and then went out of business that’s not cool at all.

I saw Richard’s Ribs pop up on Groupon and was excited to give it a try, especially after reading some of the reviews here on Unilocal. When I ordered a full slab of ribs and presented my Groupon, the cashier matter of factly stated«Groupons can’t be used for Ribs». Appreciating the irony, I stated«but the name of your restaurant is Richard’s Ribs». Needless to say, they wouldn’t budge. Seems like an unethical business practice to me. If I had a restaurant named«Robert’s Pizza Den», I wouldn’t sell Groupons and then tell new customers«sorry, you can’t buy my pizza with your Groupon, but you’re more than welcome to try our pizza bread — it’s really good». I didn’t want to waster my Groupon, so I did order the Rib Tips and Pulled Pork for my family. The family consensus was that the meat was mediocre and the BBQ sauce was hardly distiguishable from the KC Masterpiece we buy at the grocery store. Obviously, I didn’t get a chance to buy the ribs, but I expect that they can’t be much better. My review summary: mediocre BBQ from a business owner with questionable buisness ethics.

I used my Groupon last Saturday on my first visit and everything I ate taste extremely good. I had the catfish dinner and my son had the half bbq chicken dinner. The macaroni and cheese and candied yams were some of the best I’ve had. They give you generous portions of food that should keep your tummy full for the rest of the day. I had peach cobbler for dessert and it was sooooo good. I will definitely be back for more.

Ok their ribs are amazing… but I decided to try something different. I ordered the wings and fries and they were nice and split the order up for me with ½ Southern Fried and ½ Jerk wings! They were incredible! Also, I very rarely have ever gotten excited about French fries but these were perfect with a light dusting of seasoning on them. If you take that much care for these simple comfort foods then you’re doing it right and you deserve to succeed!

Happy to have this as our«local» BBQ joint! My wife’s family has lived 5mins from this place as long as they can remember, yet never had tried it. Whilst on our way back from the South I decided I would try it for lunch. I was pleasantly impressed! The ½ baby back ribs were good(albeit slightly tough for my liking but still acceptable). We were warned that it would not be enough to feed 2 people, but I struggled to finish the entire serving! The sides were tasty too, especially the potato salad! The sauce was not as sweet has I’d become accustomed, but not in a bad way. The prices were reasonable too, definitely worth a shot!

I was craving BBQ like mad a few weeks ago. I work in Fenton, so a trip to Pappy’s or Bogart’s for my lunch break was pretty much out of the question. Unilocal to the rescue! I did a little searching, and realized that Richard’s Ribs was pretty close to my office. Off we go. I walked in to this no-frills shack and my mouth immediately started watering. Oh boy… I KNEW this was going to be good! I saw some hot trays with mac & cheese, collard greens, and green beans, and the smell of BBQ in the air was intoxicating. While I stared at the menu, customers who had called in their orders were filing in, picking up their food, and leaving. The owner(who I’m assuming is named Richard?) came out and greeted each customer personally, and sometimes even chatted them up. Lots of regulars. That’s a good sign. Anyway, I finally settled on that day’s lunch special: BBQ brisket sandwich with baked beans and cole slaw. I believe it was $ 8.99, but I could be wrong. My memory sucks and this was a few weeks ago. I ordered some peach cobbler for dessert, because I’m a sucker for peach cobbler. Most people take their orders to go, but I decided to eat in. There are about 6 little tables in the restaurant for me to choose from. About 10 minutes later, Richard himself brings out my food, smiles, and tells me to enjoy. It kind of made my heart melt. I think it’s because Richard totally looks like my grandpa. I felt like I was at home. It was really kinda neat. So…the food? The food was fucking AMAZING. I’m not a huge brisket fan, but this brisket has made me a believer. It was tender, juicy, and incredibly flavorful. The BBQ sauce used was smoky and sweet. I practically inhaled the thing. It was glorious. The sides were amazing, too. The baked beans were damn near perfect, and the cole slaw was mayo based and knocked my socks off. Oh, and the peach cobbler? It was so good I didn’t even CARE that it probably had more calories than the average person should eat in one day. So good. So so so good. If I had to compare this BBQ to another place in St. Louis, I wouldn’t compare it to Pappy’s or Bogart’s. No… this is in another league entirely. Not to say that it’s better or worse, it’s just different. I would compare it to Smoki O’s in North City. Yeah. This is something special. I would almost call it Soul Food BBQ. Yeah. Let’s go with that. As I gobbled my food down, I closed my eyes and felt like I was at a family picnic on the fourth of july. It just reminded me of home. I will most definitely be back.

im extra picky when it comes to bbq so take this review in stride… its extra handy bc its literally a hop, skip and jump away from work. better calling in and picking up. the chicken wings are awesome. super cheap food. the bbq is cool… just not GREAT. there are way better bbq/soul food places in STL. so it’ll do… but its def not bad…2 stars are for the carrot cake!!! and eww but the bf loves the snoot that they have all the time, i just cant get down with eating the pig like that. definitely get the fried seasoned and ask for seasoning on the green beans, extra bland

THISPLACEIS A STANDOUT. Hidden BBQ/Soul food gem in Kirkwood. Been coming here since my VHS days. Great specials, strange hours, difficult parking, limited dining area, Awesome food! Richard is gentleman and he knows what he is doing on the grill and smoker. Support local biz and check the soul at this joint. When I come through STL next week, it’s Imo’s, Lion’s Choice, and Richard’s Ribs!

I loved the ribs here. They were so tender and the sauce is great. Richard actually served us and he was sweet as pie. He was very humble and appreciative when we told him how much we loved his ribs. Skip the lines at Pappy’s and go to Richards.

Solid ribs. The sides leave a little to be desired, but the ribs are awesome. I really like the sauce aswell. They kind of remind me of ribs in Kansas City. The place is a dive too, which I love.

I love BBQ and eat it wherever I can. I had Richard’s 2-pound pork steak this weekend and it was awesome. The meat was tender and smoked all the way through. The macaroni was the best I’ve had in a long time. If you’re in Kirkwood, check it out.(Don’t forget the peach cobbler.)

When: March 1 Why: Craving Ribs and our 1st choice was closed. Drove to Kirkwood from The Hill to satisfy our craving for Ribs and Brisket. It’s a short drive straight down 44 to Big Bend and across Kirkwood Road. Their Ribs were good, not great, but definitely between above average and great. We called ahead since our first choice was already closed, and it was a good thing. They were almost sold out too. We ordered ours with sauce on the side and I’m glad we did. I enjoyed the dry rub seasoning, the sauce for my palate was on the sweet side. As stated in a previous review, the meat does fall off the bone. They come clean with very little effort. The Brisket was another story, we were disappointed. I give them some leeway as it was the end of the day(6:00 p m), but know when not to sell what’s left. To me, it was obvious it was the last of the best. It had good flavor, but it was the butt end and dried out. Our sides were seasoned fries and Cole Slaw. Fries were crisp, but not what I expected with BBQ. The Cole Slaw was very similar to what you get at KFC. They were out of Baked Beans, which always go with Ribs and we didn’t want green beans or apple sauce. If you live in or near Kirkwood, these are good Ribs at a fair price. However, I’d recommend you do your own sides.

I love Richard’s Ribs! This is always where we get our ribs when we have out of town guests. The meat just falls right off the bone and the sauce is great :) I always get the applesauce(I’m sure it’s just right out of the jar-but still yummy!) or the potato salad.
