I loved this place so much, I’m writing a review after it has closed. I regret not writing sooner. This was my favorite burger and fry shop in Saint Louis up until it closed. I loved the owner, and the food. It will be sorely missed

I’m really bummed to see this place closed! It was my favorite back in STL!

Last two times I have driven out of my way to eat here(both during normal business hours) the place has been closed. Phone not working. Are they out of business and haven’t bothered to put s sign up or do they just keep random hours when they feel like being open? Either way it’s rude and I won’t be trying again

The owner and the Chubbie sauce both keep me coming back. Recently, however, the place has been having some pretty odd business hours. I’ve gone there at different times on different days of the week, and the place has always been closed. I don’t know why.

Fairly priced, friendly employees, and delicious food all make Chubbies an establishment I enjoy visiting whenever the hunger for a chicken sandwich strikes me and I’m in the Loop. Chubbies is of course mainly known for its burgers, but as I can’t eat beef I enjoy the chicken options, and boy are they tasty – especially with some fries! My only complaint would be that if the place is a bit busy it can take awhile to get your food, but as it is so yummy I doubt you’ll mind as long as you aren’t in a rush. Should you happen to be in the Loop in the future, have a bit of time to spare, and are hungry, I would wholeheartedly recommend checking out Chubbies!

Been here once and will never come back. Burgers are alright, chicken tenders were not good, and service was terrible.

While Chubbies burgers are tasty, their service is NOT! Every time I go here I end up waiting 30 minutes for my cheeseburger and fries. I’m not sure why I gave this place a second and third chance, but the last visit I had will be the absolute last. Either the owner(or a manager) was taking my order and insulting me regarding my age. I’m a petite 30 year-old taking my friend’s 15 year-old-daughter out for lunch and he was insisting we were the«same age» and NOT in a «wow, you look good for your age» sort of way. I will never go back!

Watched a customer take his dog inside, and not get sent right back out. It was not tagged as a service animal, and is therefore a health code violation. If they don’t care about health code, I won’t eat there.

4 stars for putting out a flavory burger, deliciously greasy and messy, along with some Carnival-worthy cheese fries The owner seemed passionate, customer service was great I would recommend getting it to go, the storefront is way too small to accommodate more than 12 or so people

Good fresh fast food when you just want to sit down instead of eating in the car on the run. Im glad my husband and I visited today for dinner. The owner made us feel welcome cause we told him it’s our first time trying a new place.

Favorite burger place that’s to go – I live near it, and it’s honestly a better burger than all the other places on the Loop(BlueHill is so overrated). There are a few reasons why you should go to Chubbies more than any other burger place. First, it’s a local family owned and ran business. The only people you see behind the counter are Wally, the owner, and his sons. Second, it’s all local. The bread is from a local StL bakery and the meat is fresh daily from Kendrick’s. To the others complaining about the meat — it’s cut fresh every day, and they’re ¼lbs burgers… you should probably order a double. Third, it’s delicious. Note that the patties are pretty thin, so if you’re used to 6+ oz burgers, you will need to get a double at Chubbies. The Chubbie Loco(aka cheeseburger w/jalapenos) is hands down the best. If you come in just for a regular burger(as many of the other reviewers has put it) you are going to get a bland burger. Get the loco, the Memphis, whatever, just not a plain cheeseburger. Finally: Wally is the man. Super friendly, will talk with anyone, and more importantly, will take care of you. He’s very nice to his regulars.

Meh is about right. Not a bad place just nothing special at all. Decent burger, not yucky but certainly not great. I ordered a cheddar burger with grilled onions and was not at all impressed. Not as bad as MCD but not as good as any of a thousand burger places I’ve visited over the years. Fries were crispy but the cheese sauce was the canned garbage. The teenager thought the chicken strips sucked. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this place is that you can grab a seat by the window and people-watch to your heart’s content. Street-facing on the Delmar Loop and just a couple of doors down from Mission Taco, who unfortunately quoted a 75-minute wait. With their location they have a lot of unrealized potential…

Chubbies has the kind of cheese fries that you can find yourself craving. Since it’s so close to where I work, I find myself coming here for a quick lunch often, and the portions are huge – I often cannot finish their smallest burger! I’d recommend maybe ordering a bit less than you think you’ll eat. Unfortunately, the custard machine is down for the colder months so I am unable to comment on that, which was a bit disappointing to me as it sounded absolutely delicious. While perhaps it is true that there isn’t anything particularly distinguishing about Chubbies, the man who I assume is the owner is extremely welcoming and nice, and was even flexible when I changed my order as they were already preparing my food. The staff is very gracious and I would definitely, and do, come back here.

Chubbies is fine. That’s about it. If you want a burger fast and cheap then you can go there. Emphasis on the word can. because its an option that doesn”t stand out that much. With a name like Chubbies, I was expecting a thick juicy slider-esc burger. Nothing that will dwarf your hand but something that when you bite down you will definitely get a mouth full of meat…(hehehe i have the maturity level of a 6th grader). The crinkle cut fries were too thick and heavy. It feels like you are trying to eat blocks of potatoes and it wasn’t a great compliment to the burger. The burger was fine. It makes you feel like crap, but isnt that what a cheap burger is suppose to do? In essence the Chubbies burger is a McDonald’s burger that was heat up on a grill. The patty was too thin. it was not the focal point of the

There has been a lot of press recently about this place and for as many times as I have eaten next door at Mission Taco, I has not been here. The place is not very fancy, its like a basic take out place with a few tables inside, the sidewalk seating is the best bet for people watching on Delmar. I thought the food was only ok, and the burgers the reviewer in the Post have been all excited about, well, honestly, if your in the Loop, I think the burgers at Blueberry Hill are as good or better. the cheese fries were a major disappointment, they are fries with cheese perhaps better suited to nachos, like a tasteless Velveta Cheese like product, but not actually real cheese. The same cheese by the way seems to be on the cheese burgers. My eating partner had the Chicago hot dog and it was also ok, but just. Be warned, the buns on both came apart after a few bites, so have plenty of handi wipes nearby. All in all, not a terrible place, but also nothing special(perhaps two stars is being too harsh), better dining options abound on the Delmar Loop these days.

This place was empty on a Tuesday night. I think a lot of it has to do with it being right next door to the ever so popular Mission Taco. Nonetheless we still wanted to try Chubbies for dinner. The owner was very nice and friendly. We both wanted Hot Dogs and swayed the SO to get their hamburger and crinkle chili fries. I stuck with the Chicago dog. The Chicago dog was really good. It had all the works of a classic Chicago dog plus the mess. I enjoyed it but i could have easily eaten another one but only because I was really hungry. Not quite sure if it is on par with the Hot Dogs from Dirty Dogz but it was still delicious. I tried the hamburger and I thought it was just okay. My fiancé thought it was really good but again not great. The chili fries were good. I liked the chili but I was not a fan of the cheese. It could have easily been cheese sauce from a tub just heated up and the crinkle fries were just okay. Overall I enjoyed my hot dog and the rest of the food was good. The restaurant itself is cool. I might frequent this place just for the hot dogs and maybe try a custard next time as well.

If you’re wanting a burger fast and on the cheap then this is the place for you! It’s a notch higher than a fast food burger for practically the same price, who can complain about that?! Now to be honest, I didn’t find anything spectacular about the burger and the place but that would be in comparison to a high end burger joint. This is pretty much a hole in wall with a really nice and friendly owner who cares about his customers. Don’t get your hopes up too high especially in the advertising of the angus beef, the patty itself is pretty thin and small but it was very tasty and cooked well. I got a single patty Chubbie Loco with a side of fries for about $ 7.00. It was really good but needed more spice for my spiceproof taste buds. My order came out pretty quick which was great because I went there on a lunch break. Overall, this place is really great for a quick burger, and for the price I will definitely be back.

High five, Chubbies! You are a winner. In an area where an inexpensive burger to go is nowhere to be found, in comes Chubbies. On tonight, my first visit, I ordered the Memphis Slaw burger and an M&M custard. Yum. This burger is solid. It is no flimsly Steak ‘n Shake steak burger(although I like those sometimes). I barely finished my single patty burger. As there are double burgers available for the heavy hitters, I think the single is plentiful and pushing big. Great price. The patty was generously peppered… I like that. If you aren’t a fan, you might want to ask if they can pull it back. The Memphis toppings were perfect. I think this was the first burger I’ve had that I didn’t wish for a pickle in addition. The custard is tasty and refreshing… and a nice change of pace from the Loop’s FroYo and Baskin Robbins, which are not my cup of tea. As a local from the DeBaliviere neighborhood, Chubbies’ presence is a most welcome addition to the block of Delmar just west of Skinker. Thanks for joining us! I love the future of this strip and glad you are here to help launch it off. PS: Word is that a 50-spot parking lot is opening up in the rear. Delmar, can I get an «Amen?»
