Decent food. Good sized portions. But beware, a bottle of Dos Equis will cost you $ 4.50. Not a great happy hour. They are good about refilling your water glass though.

Worst experience at this restaurant we have ever had! We arrived at 7:45, and were in a large group with a baby so got put in the far corner of the restaurant next to the storage of patio furniture, even though there were only 3 other people in the restaurant. We were next to a door that led outside that was letting 13 degree air blow into the restaurant. When we asked to move they moved us one seat back… Still didn’t help. We finally ordered and the food came out quickly, which would be appreciated if it came out hot, let alone warm. One dish was cold, as if it were pre made and pulled out of the refrigerator. Another dish wasn’t made correctly and another was only luke warm. All during our disappointing meals, the server never checked back in or refilled our drinks because he was too busy vacuuming around us with a very loud vacuum cleaner. At the end they took 25% off because we complained(which when we did, all we got were excuses for why everything was so bad) and then the server brought back our check without our credit card. Didn’t realize until we got home that it wasn’t in our wallet. Luckily they«found it» for us. Dirty establishment, outdoor furniture stored inside the restaurant, obvious structure problems with the air seeping in, disappointing food and service, and questionable quality of the food being served.

Nice location downtown, plenty of seating, nice atmosphere, good for groups. Service is good. I wasn’t too impressed with the food though. It really reminded me of frozen processed stuff you can buy at the grocery store, sub par for regular Mexican food. There are better options in Spokane for sure.

After a dissaponting sushi dinner I headed back to the hotel only to find myself wanting something else. Ahhh an Azteca across the street so I walked over. Walked in and had a seat at the bar. The bartender came right over and I ordered a nice teqilla driver. I just wanted a little something to eat. She recommended the shredded beef taco. Thats what i went with alacart. The taco was full of tasty beef sitting on a ton of lettuce and tomatoes. I had a couple of bites and then decided to make a taco salad out of it. The best 2 dollar taco salad i have ever had. The beef could have been hotter but overall it was excellent. Would have been 4 stars but the drinks were weak. Nothing like watching the bartender put a little tequilla on the top to make it seem stronger.

While we had very attentive service, the food was just so-so. Not terrible but really, just nothing to write home about. And the salsa was basically tomato sauce with chopped onions and black pepper. Maybe I am spoiled, we were visiting Spokane and I am used to great Mexican food, but this just wasn’t very good.

Azteca is a great place to go to when you have a large party and you want to split up the bill among friends for lots of food. The wait staff is also friendly and attentive(no complaints so far!) They offer HUGE portions of their food, every time I come here I receive a portion so giant I wonder if the chef made a mistake and made mine an order for three instead of just one. This is normal and it is one of the many reasons why coming with a group, ordering a few dishes and splitting them would be a cost effective way of getting fed on a budget. But the food is pretty mediocre for Mexican. Sure it’s hot and filling but it lacks spice in many of their dishes that could use spice, the chicken in their chicken fajitas was dry and over-cooked to the point where it had the texture of sawdust(and I actually like dry chicken!). Some of their dishes rely on the taste of cheese to flavor the entire dish, and in so the dish is drowned in dairy and grease. The décor of Azteca is fun, colorful and vibrant though and is pleasing to the eye… but some of the booths need updating as they are cracked and no one likes sitting on cracked Naugahyde. So the only thing I can say about Azteca is «meh». It’s not the worst food you will encounter by any means, but there are better places to get Mexican.

I recently attended a convention at the Convention Center across the street from Azteca, and ate there several times during the week I was there. At each visit, the servers were attentive, accurate, and friendly; the food was good and plentiful(don’t order the Arroz con Pollo unless you have a refrigerator in your hotel room!). I never had to wait more than 15 minutes, even at the height of the conference, and the restaurant seemed ready, willing, and able to handle the higher influx of traffic. I went at three different times of day, and each time, everything was good.

Not sure I’ve ever had such a bad overall dining experience. The service could best be described as ignoring. The food was bland and my wife was given a dish nowhere near what she ordered. We didn’t have time to wait another hour to ask for what she really ordered so we tried to eat some and then left in search of better food. My trip to wash my hands was marred by a restroom in disorder and with the only available roll of paper towels sitting on the counter and completely soaked through making it worthless. I would recommend going anywhere but here if you are looking to enjoy a dining experience.

I have to say, and I know from experience, that not all aztecas are created equal. In spokane, there are many different places to get Mexican food. I’ve been to all of them and of course, nothing comes close to mi Madre’s cooking who is from central Mexico. It’s the staff and the atmosphere that makes this my favorite Mexican restaurant. Having been here close to 50 times I have only ever had one problem which was quickly taken care of by the manager. The black bean soup at this particular azteca is un like no other. It’s the best. The black bean soup and the amazing people here keep me coming back.

I wasn’t going to write this review, as there are plenty of poor ratings, but I had to get this off my chest. First of all, you automatically have to add twelve dollars to the cost of your meal, as that is what you have to pay to park in the lot beside the restaurant. Apparently, when there is an event at the convention center across the street, everyone has to pay the maximum price. Azteca says they’ll deduct three dollars off the price of the meal, but … you do the math; it’s still very expensive(unless you luck out and get one of the very few nearby parking meter spots). When we entered the restaurant, we waited and waited for someone to seat us, and nobody so much as acknowledged that we were there. A line started to form behind us, yet no hostess. I finally had to to track someone down and request to be sat at a table. She was put out that she had to do it because she could not find the hostess. Now, for the meal: When the server(Pedro) finally came to the table, I requested fish in my «Chalupa» rather than chicken or beef(the same fish that they put in the burritos), and that I was willing to pay whatever additional cost to get it. Well, this was WAY too complicated for the server. He said«no.» He said that it was pre-measured for the burritos, but not for Chalupas. Really? Just put the burrito measurement in!!! I was willing to pay whatever the cost, but he would not do it. I remained friendly and did not engage. We went through the entire meal without being checked on, and left with no acknowledgement. We only saw our server twice; to take the order and to drop the check off. As far as the quality of the food, I had no complaints. However, the service was, unfortunately, deplorable. Note to the Manager: Look at the number of poor reviews, and most of them are service related … this could be fixed with a little training!

My mom and her best friend wanted take me to this place because it’s one of their favorites and they knew I like spicy Mexican food. We got there around 4ish on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn’t too busy one ½ of the place was empty maybe had 2 people and other half had a party of 30, and guess where the hostess sat us, next to the party of 30, felt squished in that room, after about 5 minutes of not hearing what anyone was saying I asked if we could move to the other side of the restaurant was told sure no problem, so off we went. Once in our new seats, I knew I wanted to order some guacamole to go with our chips and salsa, I know my mom loves that stuff and well I now love it too. Can you believe guacamole isn’t offered as an appetizer? No really it isn’t, our sever was a little perplexed by my request, but took it and came back with a plate that had some guac on it. It wasn’t too appealing to the eye, a bowl probably could’ve been better but it tasted good. Also if the hot sauce isn’t hot enough for you, ask for something hotter and they will bring it out to you. When it came time to order, I went with the Macho burrito with a side of rice, again the server was perplexed about my side order of rice. My mom ordered the cheese enchilada and chile relleno and her best friend ordered shrimp fajitas. When our order came out, I now was the perplexed one, not only did I get a massive macho burrito but I got an plate full of Spanish rice, maybe I should have just asked for a scoop of it. My mom’s best friend’s order was messed up they gave her chicken fajitas, when she pointed that out to the sever he admitted right away it was his mistake. About 10 minutes later her meal came out, my mom enjoyed her meal as well. Mine, well it was massive, it for sure is a macho burrito, I ordered a shredded chicken with chile verde sauce so it was smothered in chili verde sauce, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, creama Mexicana & cotija cheese, it was massive, went to dig into it, and well the shredded chicken totally reminded me of the can chicken you can get at Costco(love that stuff make some bitchin chicken salad sandwiches with it) but it caught me completely by surprise, isn’t the can stuff more than just buying & boiling the chicken? The chili verde had a good flavor to it, it just was too massive for me, I didn’t even get ½ way through it, let alone attack that huge plate of rice I had. Just so odd they didn’t know how to an order of guac or side of rice, oh well. Found out my mom and her best friend come here for the drinks, and then get a ride home later, drinks always make things better I guess. For me, it wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t the best either.

They provide a fine meal. Chile rellano was excellent. Big portions. Lot of leftovers. They also offered an Adventure Time sticker dispenser. 50 cents each. I nearly collected all 12. The margarita was overpriced for the lack of quality. Waitstaff was very professional. We arrived ten minutes before they closed and they did not waver in the service. That shows that they have s good attitude and work ethic in their ability to multi task.
