Solid staff and great dinner food

Great spot for breakfast. Food service and price are all excellent. Corned beef hash and the bamba bowl are perfect ways to start a day of wine tasting especially on a bit of a dreary day.

Great breakfast in downtown Sonoma. Comfortable Southwestern style inside. The banana waffle was AMAZING! Super friendly staff too. I’m only here for a week and I’ll be going back before I head home.

Breakaway Café is my go-​to quick bite. Perfect for a hung over breakfast or easy casual dinner. The ideal alternative to take out for the day when you want a home cooked meal without the hefty Sonoma price tag. Breakaway makes up for what it lacks in ambiance, with its consistent good food and fast service.

Nice atmosphere slightly underwhelmed with the food. Probably ok for locals. I had pulled pork, hubby had steak. Fries pretty hard. Not a large wine selection.

Food is OK, service was very slow, but this was an unusual occurrence since we have been here before. Satisfaction here varies by service.

Great Spot! We had breakfast and I would call it the Perfect breakfast place — fresh food that is well prepared, really good espresso, comfortable seating and a nice staff.

Very good molasses cookie, omelet, and bloody mary! Service was attentive and friendly, too! It was a great start to a vacation day.

One of the best burgers of my life today. I think it’s the Breakaway Burger but anyway, perfectly cooked, tomato at season peak, mozzarella fresh and not too soft, just the right seasoning and, of course, the service is always terrific. I love coming here… Still

First let me start off by saying that the first person to greet us at our table (5-​Top of us) was an amazing young woman named Heather — right off the bat we could tell this was going to be a good experience and Heather’s professionalism, bright smile, and actual engagement with our party was sincere and top-​notch. She wasn’t even our waitress but a buss-​girl/​water-​girl and yet she was the most engaging and welcoming staff-​person on the floor! Having worked in the restaurant business myself for 5 years (as a means to put myself through college in the early 2000’s), I know the constant stress, multiple tables, and the energy needed to get through a day (let alone give 200% to each and every customer), but I have to say that Heather was truly the key to what made our meal, experience, and ultimately coming back the next day to try out the burger which she raved about and said we had to come back to try! Her attitude, excitement, and genuine care for our table was the best I have seen (even at any upscale SF restaurant where I live), in a very long time. This girl deserves a raise and promotion and I do not throw that out easily — she’s a keeper for sure!
Now, on to the food. YUM, YUM, YUM. First day I had the Breakfast Quesadilla and an upside-​down pancake for the table. I was blown-​away and cannot speak enough (again, to Heather’s recommendations) but the food quality, and taste! The Breakaway hot sauce is the best restaurant hot-​sauce I’ve had in a very long time. You need to start selling it to the public!
The next day we came back for Burgers and I had the Mexican Burger but subbed the Dutch-​Crunch bun. Holy hamburgers, batman. This thing ranks in my Top 5 hamburger easily!
I really cannot wait to come back and enjoy more food and amazing service from our new favorite Heather!

Stopped for lunch at 12:30 on a Saturday and expected it to be busy but there were many available booths. Seating appears to be all booths with the exception of some high tops in the bar area as well as the bar seating.
I was greeted and seated right away. Server came to get my drink order quickly. They have a full bar so there’s breakfast cocktails and espresso drinks along with the usual café beverage offerings.
There was a regular menu and a specialty — seasonal menu. The brunch options looked good but I wanted lunch not breakfast and so I made my selection from the regular menu but took awhile to decide between the many sandwiches. I decided on a specialty burger that has a balsamic marinated heirloom tomato slice, mozzarella and pesto mayo on a local Basque Boulangerie bun. When it arrived 20 minutes later (1 * removed for the long wait) it was a mile high… thick burger, thick cheese and thick tomato slice on the bun made it impossible to eat like you would Normally eat a burger. So took knife and fork to it. The burger was tasty and of good quality, but a little undercooked for medium. The fries were good, so overall a good lunch but $ 15 seems a bit high for what it was.
This is a clean bright and nicely decorated café with plenty of friendly servers. My iced tea was never empty and the server stopped by twice in addition to another gal that was refilling beverages.
I wouldn’t mind returning to try breakfast brunch or dinner. Of note, I did not see but one offering that the vegetarians that I know could order, it seems lacking in that department.

I’ve always loved The Breakaway Café but on Sunday night they exceeded my expectations. The evening special for Sunday is prime rib. This is a new item on their menu. It was a generous portion, perfectly cooked, tender juicy and came with delicious mashed potatoes and exquisitely fresh green beans. Highly recommended!

Great local spot for breakfast, big lunch salads or juicy burgers. My Uncle loves all the Mexican Breakfast items offered up here, my hubby likes the price point! The place is always busy, which is a great sign of good diner food. Clean comfortable environment, has a full bar with TV and bar top seating. Located in a Lucky Shopping center, there is plenty of parking available. Check out the Corn Beef Hash, The Ranch Burger and Mexican Burger. Yum!

Been going here for breakfast for many years! Love the egg benedict and spicy potatoes! Service is usually spot on and prices are very reasonable for Sonoma.

Super excited with the new subtle changes to the bar & menu. If your in the mood for seafood, grass fed burgers or steak this is the place to try, you won’t be disappointed.

We really enjoyed our food, so even though the service was a bit stretched, I still give them 5 stars.
The two of us arrived at noon on a Sunday and would have had to wait 15 minutes, but we decided to eat at the bar.
I had the Machaca and she had the Special May Vegetable Skillet with Pesto. Both were very tasty. Actually, the food was better than the five star hotel we had eaten at the morning before and a much better deal. Highly Recommend!!!

I used to like this place when they lived in Boyes. Ever since moving to Maxwell Village, I’ve been here about half a dozen times, and each time left little to be desired. Our last visit convinced me I will never return.
* For starters, the service is very slow; at least that was my experience.
*The food is just ok. You can find a better meal at Community Café.
*The biggest disappointment for me is the hygiene. The last time we were there two of the dishes served to us had hair in it. My husband thought I was overreacting about the hair, maybe I am, but obviously for me it’s just wrong.
If in this neighborhood, I highly recommend heading about a mile south to Community Café. Way better food and a better overall experience.

Here for brunch! I agree with Unilocal!It’s definitely a 4 star! The corn beef and hash breakfast is so good! The meat is not canned and very tasty! My fiancé got the eggs Benedict which was another tasty surprise! The location is close to downtown Sonoma right next to a lucky supermarket! Very home style feeling and great place for breakfast!
