(Half #18, 2015) I ran Arroyo Creek last year and ran it again this year. Last year’s highlights: «Simi Valley, California: home to Elite Sports’ „Arroyo Creek Half Marathon.“ Tree-lined, shady, and completely serene, this very flat course begins at Rancho Simi Park and continues its out-and-back wind along the Arroyo Creek bike path. Ducks and herons alike share the creek as you make your way along the patchwork path upon its banks. Commencing at an early 7am, this refreshing run is enhanced further by the vigor and energy of the morning.» Updates: If you are interested in gearing up for and running Elite Sports’ 7-race Challenge, check my first review for info; however, since then, a couple new races have been added, so check the website. Anyway, I ran Arroyo Creek this year to accomplish just that, running seven of Elite Sports’ nine half marathons.(Only two more to go!) Nevertheless, Arroyo Creek is easy and flat. Maintaining pace and PR-ing is completely doable and within reach. But what I also appreciated this year, something different from other Elite Sports races, was that the Half medals were separate from the 5k and 10k medals. Not to disparage any of the other runners – it’s great to see so many people lacing up and getting out there – but receiving medals that reflect the courses you’ve run is special. I dig that.

A nice and relatively small race. I completed the ½ marathon and the course was fairly flat and on the river bed. Everything about the race from the registration, parking, packet pick up, and race was pleasurable. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get a PR.
