What a great weekend popup carnival and a relative bargain for a small regional event. It was only 5 bucks a person to get in and little ones under 4 were free. The event is held annually around the 3rd weekend in September and was set up at the Simi Valley Town center this year. A big chuck of the parking lot is cordoned off and various booths, carny games, food stands, a performance stage and rides are set up in the small area. We came by on a warm Saturday afternoon and the event was sparely attended but there was plenty of shade under the awnings in front of the live performance stage. A pretty good Beatles tribute band was cranking out the best of the Fab four while we were there. They had rides for both kids and some for young teens, just the right amount really for the space and size of the event. A huge plus was the length of time of the rides for the ticket. They allowed plenty of time to enjoy the rides without rushing anyone off. You have your choice of ticket blocks for the kids and the games are all cash to play in lieu of tickets. Plenty of free parking, the town center right there and a clean and safe atmosphere. All in all the kiddos had a wonderful time for the 3 or so hours we spent in attendance. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back next year.

There’s a food booth at the Simi Valley Days festival going on right now that sell malasadas & other Hawaiian dishes. They used to also be at the Northridge Ho’olaule’a(there every year until Northridge stopped having them). The festival is happening until this Sunday, 25 Sep 2011.
