This place is the bomb! i had the chicken eggrolls and they were sooo delicious! Crispy hot and came out super quickly. Had the fried ice cream too and that was really good as well. i definitely recommend this place. It has been in the neighborhood for a long time and I always stop by when I’m around. Oh and the margaritas give me life :)

Wow! This place is so nice and the food!!! Wow! If you love spicy food this is the best place to get good spicy Mexican food! The non-spicy chicken chimi we had was also very good. A must try are the spicy chicken egg-rolls and chicken stuffed jalapeños. In terms of the dessert, the homemade sopapias were amazing and a nice end to the perfect meal. The music playlist was upbeat and just the right volume. The servers were very friendly and accommodated us before we even had to ask. The owners were very sweet and came out to wish us a happy new year. In short, I would highly recommend Rivera’s for anyone who loves good Mexican food, or anyone interested in trying something new and delicious.

The only reason I’m giving a 3 star review is because the food made up for horrible service. The service would get negative stars if there was such a thing. I don’t even know where to begin to explain, but avoid the server Jennifer, and hope you get a better experience than I did.

How many years has this place been hiding in Severna Park? More than ten, as it turns out, which is nothing short of embarrassing considering how often I’m in the area. We had a great dinner there a few nights ago and I know we’ll be back soon. We started with fresh salsa and homemade queso with warm tortilla chips, and we inhaled them. Then I ordered the pork tamales. Both came with two sides: I liked that there were a bunch of options and that they came in separate dishes instead of in a huge puddle on the plate. The rice and beans were tender but very well-seasoned with rich Tex-Mex flavor. The tamales were fantastic — obviously homemade because they were not perfectly shaped! The corn was dark yellow and held together beautifully, and the chunks of pork were perfectly cooked. They were served with tomatillo sauce, and I added hot sauce from the table(there were several varieties) for a perfect plate. My husband’s beef enchiladas were good, too, but the tamales were clearly the winning entrée. There’s a fairly large outdoor dining area, but the inside is quite intimate, with only a dozen or so booths. The benches are very high and the lighting pleasantly low, allowing for extra privacy in the small space. Conveniently, we arrived during happy hour, during which margaritas were a cool $ 3 for a large glass — they tasted like they were made from a mix, but for that price we drank them happily. Our server was attentive and polite all evening. She actually cautioned me not to eat the cornhusk wrappers on the tamales, which made me roll my eyes a little until she said it had happened before — yikes, Maryland! — but I appreciated her consideration. As I said, we will definitely return soon.

This restaurant is small, so you should expect to wait during popular times. As a party of 6 arriving around 7:30PM on a Friday night, we were prepared to wait. We only waited for about 10 – 15 minutes before a table was ready. Unfortunately, that was the shortest wait of the night at Rivera’s. We ordered drinks and queso and quickly ran out of chips. It took our waitress at least 20 – 25 minutes(with multiple reminders) to bring more chips, giving our queso plenty of time to congeal into a big blob. She pretty much lost my business at that point. I was so hungry by the time the food finally came out(we probably waited for an hour for our dinner between the time we sat down and were served dinner) that I was ready to leave. We were there for a good two hours, and not by choice. I probably won’t be back anytime soon.

The southwest salad was so good. My husband had the angus steak burrito and he said it was super tasty. The waitress was great and the salsa had a kick to it. Overall 2 thumbs up…

Decided to try a new local place but it wasn’t very good. I ordered the tacos with mexican corn. I got frozen corn. The tacos were less then a taco bell. Service was ok.

I have consistently been impressed with the food and friendliness in this restaurant! Last visit, we had $ 2 beer, and salsa(fantastic), guacamole(fresh and to die for) and queso(creamy and hard to resist). We ordered a second round of crispy tortilla chips to enjoy our appetizers. Next, we shared sizzling chicken fajitas and a vegetarian Jody’s burrito which is stuffed with black beans and avocado. Both entrees were generous and very delicious! We were served sides of black beans, pinto beans, and Mexican Rice because we chose these amongst others available. We enjoyed the sides, and my husband kept track of his basketball game while I enjoyed island music. We splurged on Sopillas, even though we were full and needed a «doggie bag». The dessert was fresh and light pastry with whipped cream inside, and honey and powdered sugar outside. It was devoured. Service was excellent!

My family has been going to Riveras for 15 years. This place consistently delivers amazing Mexican food with quality unsurpassed by some of the best Mexican restaurants around. I love the enchiladas and the chicken stuffed jalapeños. They aren’t your cream cheese filled jalapeños like a lot of places serve. They have good margaritas too with just the right balance of sweet vs sour. If you are looking for a good deal, they consistently offer happy hour specials with $ 2 beers and margaritas. Try to find a place that can beat that. If you are looking for good Mexican food search no further. If you haven’t tried this place, give it a chance. You won’t be disappointed

Second worst Mexican restaurant that I have ever been to. The food was so bland and gross.

Fast, friendly service and delicious food. I had Jody’s burrito, one of the many vegetarian selections. My friend enjoyed the chipotle chicken fajitas. The fajitas came on a sizzle iron plate along with guacamole, sour cream and pico to top the fajitas. The chipotle sauce was amazing but not for the tender taste buds, it has a kick! We also took full advantage of the happy hour, $ 2 margaritas, seriously? What a great deal.

Pretty sure they used Velveeta as a cheese sauce on the food. We were the only ones there and the food still came out almost cold. I will not be back.

I came here when I moved to SP13 years ago and had found no reason for a return visit. Meh food and uninspired service. Returned two weeks ago I returned figuring that maybe it had gotten better since it was still here. Do they buy frozen entrees from the nearby Safeway and microwave them for us diners? That’s what I felt, there was no hint of freshness in our meals. With Chris’ restaurant and Mi Pueblo II nearby why come here. I think Chipotle is even fresher.

Great tasting authentic food. They made our night very enjoyable by making a special dish for our picky daughter. The salsa is amazing I pick it up for any get together with friends. My favorites are the Mexican pizza, southwest egg rolls and the southwest burrito. Amazing fresh food. Check out their happy hour 2 dollar margaritas.

Used to come here very often, but lately the quality has gone down and the price up. The last time i was there, i ordered some tacos with no meat or veggies and my mother ordered fajitas. Bill comes out(see quote in tips) $ 40 for a couple of tacos? WTF??? Not gonna be back until some changes happen

Food was way overpriced for quality /quantity. Save your money and your taste buds and go to taco bell(that’s saying a lot).

Ummm… I went for a margarita, and the waitress sets it down with, «I know it’s watery, but…» and walks away! She had to get back to her boyfriend who was apparently there to visit her. No thanks!

My family and I have given this place 3 attempts. None of which where at least decent. The food is pricey. Honestly it isn’t very good. It is a shame because we love Mexican food and it is very close to our house.

As 20 year residnts of Severna Park, we have longed for good mexican food, and ocassionally, once pops up on Rt 2 near the donut shack, but not often. Riveras has been in that location for almost the entir time we’ve Iived here. It appears this restaurant is owned by one of the partners from Mexican Café down in Bayridge. Whenthey first came to town, they were really good, and have always had great margaritas(order the«Perfect if you go). Anyway, they started their downhill slide when they replaced their very good queso dip with #10 can cheese, then went on to cold food, then finally to non-sizzling fajitas. We still end up there occasionally for ritas, but the food is not good, and overpriced.
