The new owner is the nicest dude who’s ever served me a cup of coffee. I live closer to the coffee spot down the street but sometimes feel like I’m being a burden just by walking in their door, I’ve never gotten that vibe from Kafe Berlin. I was strugglin this morning and their chill attitude and kickass peppermint mocha is breathing life back into me

Well, Smoothie, breakfast food, hot sandwiches, coffee, and sodas! A bit pricey. However, i love their selections. Oh, Hot Dogs are here! Next to HarborView Medical Center.

Really disappointing. I really wanted to like this place. The selection of bake foods looked kinda sad. The huge muffins looked like they were from Costco. Nothing enticed my appetite from the display refrigerator. The big piles of bread in the corner looked kind of sad, as if no one wants them. Tried their Ruben sandwich and was not happy about the $ 9 I paid. It’s supposed to be a hot sandwich, and even though it was in the panini press, the bread just tasted stale. Maybe the heat wasn’t even, or maybe it was because they didn’t butter the outside of the sandwich, but the bread tasted like it’s been sitting for a while after being toasted. I don’t know if it had anything to do with the fact that it sat in a plastic box for less then 5 minutes, but the bread was just not good at all. When the bread isn’t good, it kind of ruins the whole sandwich. It is really unfortunately because I work near by. I guess I’ll be sticking to my usual, which is not this place.

I’ve been here a couple of times since I work nearby and I’ve been less than impressed each time. I’ve only ordered sandwiches here as I don’t drink coffee so I can’t attest to their beverages. I walk pass this place all the time and a a few months ago they had a sign that said something to the effect of «best BLT is here! 9 slices is bacon» and I thought to myself, damn, I want a BLT. The sign taunted me for weeks and I finally decided to splurge and go for it. I mean 9 slices of bacon?! How can you go wrong, right? Let me begin: I ate the sandwich as soon as it was ready. The lettuce was wilted like the weeks old piece of greenery it was. The slices of tomatoes were also old. They had this weird foamy look to them and they were also wilted. How can a tomato get wilted?! But alas it was. The toasted bread was hard and cold, like they had toasted it an hour before serving. The sandwich was drenched in mayo. I’m a huge fan of mayo, but I suspect they were trying to cover up the sandwich with it. It was squirting all over the place, and not in a good way. And the piece de la resistance, the supposedly shining star of the entire sandwich, the bacon, was a huge huge letdown. Small pieces that were hard and difficult to chew on. Not the crispy kind of bacon or even a thick slices, but small pieces of small, hard, cold, overcooked bacon. Again, I suspect this was old. This place has fooled me one two many times and I probably won’t ever come back. There are too many great things to eat, and this place doesn’t serve it.

This place is really near my apartment so I was dearly hoping it would be my new go-to spot for coffee and pastries in the morning. Unfortunately the mediocre coffee and dry, unappetizing baked goods and other edibles leave much to be desired. I almost broke my teeth off on one of their homemade granola bars that was super overpriced at almost $ 3 if I remember correctly. The staff is friendly(albeit super slow), though, and the place itself is cute with nice outdoor and indoor seating. It has potential if they improve their actual food/drink offerings.

Really good paninis and they even have gluten free bread. I’ve had their turkey apple salad and that too was good. Service is ok. They aren’t the warmest people but food is worth it. The gal was firm in answering my questions about gluten ingredients which isn’t the best service but it’s a minor thing. I’d still recommend this place for lunch.

What a cute place! The staff is amazing and very friendly!!! Sadly, the delicious-looking, freshly-made pastries and quiches are in an open case and flies are landing on them. If management would just get a closed case, myself(and the many customers in line ahead of me) would gladly eat the tasty looking foods! Please don’t let something so simple ruin a great treasure of a place!

It’s hit and miss with their baked goods — some days they taste nice and fresh, but I’ve had to take a muffin back in the past(dry and hard) — the guy working there dumped the entire plate of them in the trash and let me pick out anything of my choice to replace it. Then today, I got one of their scones — normally I get the raspberry, but they were out so I got the mixed berry. Got back to my desk and after 2 bites, I almost threw up — the berries tasted rancid and I still can’t get the taste out of my mouth. Tried to call and got their ‘voice’mail. There were no instructions to leave a message, but instead, it said to call back or stop by during business hours. I’ve struggled with this place since they opened — haven’t bought a sandwich since the first month they were open because I don’t have the time to wait the ungodly amount of time it takes them to make a sandwich. Time for me to move on to another place to patronize.

It may be allergy season, but is there a reason preparer #1 ran over to the side of the front corner and had an exploding, unprotected sneeze just a few feet from the sandwich grill. And why did preparer #2 wipe her NOSE on her latex gloves while she is preparing sandwiches. Really? Really? Someone needs to give these folks a lesson in restaurant hygiene. It was all out in the open and everyone just acting like nothing happened. How about a bit of phlegm with that Reuben?

Service is so slow and the portions skimpy. I order a 3 cheese panini and a salad and after 20 minutes I inquired about my order only to find out it had been sitting out and was cold. I told the owner and she seemed puzzled. I only get 30 minutes for lunch and this place wasted my time. Food is pricey and not all that.

This place is legit. Nice little café with a good variety of sandwiches. I got a red pepper panini, which was on point. Next time I’ll definitely try a Ruben — they’ve got a huge variety of sour kraut.

This place makes all their own sauerkraut and has a several different delicious kinds. They are very reasonably priced and all of their samdwichs will make your mouth water.

I’ve been here a few times for coffee, and the service is always really nice. I finally got some food, and I’m definitely happy I did. If you like dogs or sausages then you should give it a try. I had some stubby little weiner smothered in red kraut. I think it was called the Kaiser dog. So good! Snappy little dog, tons of mustard, pepperoncini, cream cheese. Damn. I can’t wait to go back and have their Reubens and other things. They have so many treats! One of the tastiest looking baked goods cases I’ve seen. They even make little energy cookies which are good if you’re gonna be walking around for a while. Get 2 for $ 5 instead of 1 for $ 3. This last time I went in there was a little lunch rush and just 2 employees. 1 of which was new. But they slammed through that line like it was no big deal. They also have beer. I’m really considering going in later in the day for dinner, enjoying some German food with a cold one, and having a piece of strudel for dessert.

Their service is ever slow. Every Time I go so I always make sure I have time to spare. Their pastries are good but not always the freshest looking. I enjoy their coffee and usually attentive staff

So strange… it’s not hard to keep people coming back but the staff here is terrible. The café itself is so incredibly charming but I wonder if the owner knows how the staff treat people. I came in positive and left negative. Same staff I always see and they both are never happy or nice. Either way, their tip jar is low because of how they answer questions/attitude.

Super perky staff that make a delicious veggie breakfast sandwich if you have 45 hours to wait. Food is good but the staff would rather talk about what they did last night and sing songs about cigarettes and coffee for breakfast

If you want a taste of Germany… make this a must visit place. Great food, reasonably priced, and a nice atmosphere. Service was quick with a sense of fun. One of my new favorite places and it is near the Frye z Museum.

Best coffee in the United States of America. Big call, especially in the city in which Starbucks was born. But it’s definitely my opinion that this is the best coffee I’ve had here — and I drink coffee everyday. Wish this was my local!

Little hole in a wall off the beaten path from Harborview and the riff raff on Madison. They make decent breakfast/lunch sandwiches and have a decent rotation of soups. It’s a small staff so things take time for them to make, but the coffee is good as is the food. Definitely like paying a visit now and then… but only if I have a lot of time to kill.

I was generally disappointed with this place. First of all… who has a German themed café without beer? That was my first red flag of inauthenicity. I asked for a coke and they went to the basement to get me one — which was warm. I asked for a glass of ice and got one but no straw. Ordered the ‘Underdog’ without the curry ketchup(the Germans do have weird ketchup, that’s true) and it was quite tasty(see my pic in the picture section) but definitely did not have enough kraut and fit the roll strangely, leaving me with a mustardy, cheesy, tangy chunk of bread at the end with no meat. Most of the sausages have cream cheese on them, which is not a german thing to do at all. The servers don’t seem really committed on the authenticity thing either, as the one who helped me said that my ‘hotdog’ would be ready in 5 minutes, and really, it took 10. The mustard was tasty.
