Chinese & Japanese. Some of the better sushi we’ve had the area. Great food, huge menu, wonderful staff. Highly recommended.

In general, it’s not too bad. We ordered scallion pancakes, Szechuan spicy string beans, Yume delight that is a combination of beef tenderloin and shrimps, and 3 sushi rolls including spicy tuna, spicy yellow tail and eel cucumber. They are all tasty but with issues. The pancakes are too oily, the Szechuan spicy string beans are not spicy at all, the shrimps are nice but the beef tenderloin are not in good quality, sushi rolls are a total disaster. Also, all dishes are quite salty. The environment is nice and quiet. The only complaint is that they place a super bright light above each small table, not sure for what purpose.

Although Yume isn’t what I would call amazing it’s the best tenant to be in this doomed location in the seven years I’ve been working in Schaumburg. The interior is much nicer than it used to be, service is much better, but… the food could still use some work. For a long time, ownership was staying the same but they kept reconcepting and/or changing the name. Well, Yume finally has brought new management & ownership to this location! I really want to try their sushi offerings but I’ve been really hesitant because I’m scurred! They have such an expansive menu with sushi just being one of a million offerings… my general thought it it can’t be that fabulous then! But, I need to stop being so judgmental(I am who I am) and wait to pass my thoughts until I’ve actually eaten some of the raw fish. I’ve tried their Chinese dishes a couple of times. The lunch specials for Chinese food are under $ 7 and a good size. It’s a great deal and always makes both lunch & dinner for me which is fabulous. I’ve had the sesame chicken and the sweet & sour chicken. Both were just fine, neither was delicious, but they got the job done. I’ll continue to go for their cheap lunch deals. They do 2 mono maki sushi rolls for $ 9.99 which is a good deal I wish to partake in in the future. Overall, I’m happy to see this location busy, they’ve cleaned up a lot and are a decent location. I wish they’d step up the food a bit so it wouldn’t be quite so bland and packed a bit more flavor.

Sought out this place for lunch and then went back for dinner within the week. The service is a good but a little rocky, I’m still giving out an A for effort. The crispy garlic shrimp was fantastic! I have only had Chinese dishes but I will definitely be back to try the sushi, the menu is huge!

3.50 stars(gave it 4 stars due to the service) I thought the calamari and especially the scallion pancakes were too greasy. The pancakes didn’t look anything like the picture on the menu. I enjoyed the New England clam chowder and the dry chili chicken dinner extra spicy. Very tasty. A little more diced scallions would of been nice. Other plates looked savory and plentiful. I heard the egg drop soup was good. Service was very accommodating and friendly. Prices were reasonable. Overall an ok experience. We didn’t order from the Japanese side of the menu but I did see delicious looking plates whizzing by me. I’ll have to try their sushi next time. I’m not yet convinced this place is better than Yu’s as was reviewed previously. Perhaps this is so if one orders from the Japanese menu. IBB(maybe)

Ok seriously, FORGET Yu’s…cuz everything about Yume is 10x better. I wandered in for dinner on a Thursday evening recently, and ponied up to their small bar setup since I was dining solo. I asked for them to change the channel to TNT to watch the playoffs pregame show, and they just handed me the remote and said, «go for it.» Something about that small gesture convinced me I was in for a real treat! I ordered the spicy salmon maki and the basil garlic chicken as my entrees. Both were absolutely PERFECT! I know there have been some reviews that talked about the price being too high, but for the quality AND quantity of the food, plus the attentive service, I consider this place to be a bargain compared to Yu’s. Huge portions, plus the staff checking in often enough take sure everything was good. Even though it wasn’t super busy when I was there, they seemed a bit short-staffed but they were ALL over it! Living nearby, I will be coming back for sure!

Good place to go if you are in area. Went on Sunday night, was pretty slow, service was spot on. Couldn’t have asked more from my server. Seaweed salad was great, very large portion, almost too much. Almost. Hot and sour soup that came with deluxe sashimi plate was very tasty. Not so much sour, as it was black peppery. But still tasted good enough devour the whole bowl! Only reasons for 4 stars… The yellow tail sashimi on deluxe plate was off tasting, minerally, little fishy, I only ate one piece. But everything else, tuna, salmon, tako… On the sashimi deluxe plate was excellent. Loved the octopus! Yum. Came here Because of the pics of oysters and clams and uni, sadly they had none of them available :(another reason for 4 stars) There is one TV, so if you are wanting to watch a sports game, hope other customers want watch same game. I wanted watch to playoff hockey, but people were watching basketball. Didn’t meet the owners, but sushi chefs are Chinese. If that matters to you. I heard no-one speaking Japanese, and I speak Japanese. Only Mandarin. I would deff come back-to-back the service rocked. But don’t expect authentic Japanese anything…

The ambience is most pleasant and clean. Service is fast, polite, and en point. Ordered wonton soup. The soup base was very well flavored, and PLENTY of wontons. It was late in the evening so I started to get full on them,… quickly… My date ordered Mongolian Beef. I had a taste. Also very good. Will attach a picture of it. For appetizer, we ordered the scallion pancakes. Can’t go wrong with that, either… Overall, a nice place. Open till 9:30pm — on a Sunday!!! That’s enough to keep us happy…

Decided to try this place this past Saturday. As other’s have said, the service was great. The restaurant was clean, We liked the variety of the menu as well. I had the General Tso’s chicken and was pleased to see it came with Broccoli. So many places have stopped serving it with Broccoli. If you like spicy, try the Dry Chili Chicken was we had that as well. Spicy, but tasty. The spice did not overpower the other flavors so that was nice. We also order pot stickers, and got 6. They were HUGE!!. They could almost be a meal themselves. The dipping sauce was great was well.

This place is lovely to dine-in. The staff is pleasant and courteous, the sushi and sashimi are delicious and fresh, and the lunch special is available even on the weekends(no substitutions, FYI). A la carte, the items are somewhat expensive. I’d stick with the two or three roll specials if you prefer maki. I recommend the spicy tuna and the hamachi! I’m dying to try the salmon don. Ordering takeout is a bit difficult, which is why I knocked this place down a star. We had a major language barrier issue which resulted in them making an extra roll and having to remove it and re-bag everything when I came to pick it up. Wish they offered online ordering!

I’ve passed this strip mall a million times but never expected to find this hidden gem. Yes, I know it is not as well known as Yu’s. However, the food and service here will make you want to return back again. The staff here is highly attentive and quick. I never had to ask for extra napkins, extra napkins, refills… well you get my point. My glass somehow magically stayed full the entire time! Now that is some service! They’ve a pretty big lunch special menu that has something for everyone. Kinda cool that the lunch specials are valid all week, not just weekdays. The fiancé ordered the Yume Beef Tenderloin on my first visit here. His entrée was delicious and full of flavor. I probably would’ve eaten the rest of his entrée if I wasn’t so full already. My $ 12 dollar sashimi lunch special blew me away. When the waiter brought out my plate of sashimi it looked like a dish you would see at a 5 star restaurant. The fish was fresh and firm. The quality of the sushi and the presentation was outstanding. Honestly, the value and service here is just phenomenal. The servings are a bit big, but the food is delicious. I would probably eat here every week if I lived in the burbs. Quit reading this review and go eat at Yume!

I live around the corner and watched this being transformed from Aloha something or other. It is in the same strip as Udupi(Indian) and Maxfields(family diner). I couldn’t wait for it to open and give it a try. I have been to many sushi places in the burbs as well as the city. This one is right up there with the best of them. The menu is color coded purple for Chinese and blue for Japanese. Very well organized and easy to follow. Service was exceptional. Refilled drinks, fresh plates between courses and checking back often to make sure everything was going well. We started with a crab rangoon off of the Chinese menu. 7 or 8 to an order and bursting with filling served with a ramekin of sweet and sour and mustard on request. My daughter and I split the 3 maki special for $ 15.95 at dinner. We chose the smoked salmon/cream cheese, spicy hamachi and shrimp tempura. There were many other to choose from. The ones we had were very fresh and tasty. My sister ordered Mongolian shrimp which came with a choice of three different soups. The dish was rich and sweet with just a little spice and was described perfectly be our server. I highly recommend this restaurant and want to keep it around! If you’re headed toward Conant high school for anything, make this a destination and grab a bite to eat!

located at the former«aloha grill»…they are newly opened… plenty of elbow space between tables… very clean and somewhat newly renovated interior… plenty of parking… best deals are the various lunch specials offered 7 days a week… sushi is good, fresh, and well presented… always order pan fried noodles extra crispy so you don’t get them soggy(i always order it this way anywhere when possible)…friendly and attentive staff… generous portion, good flavor, fresh ingredients at affordable prices… you-me eat yummy sushi at yume and you-may bring tumi to-me…now say that 10x

This was my second time trying Japanese, and I was excited to give it a second go! I had tried sushi before, and unfortunately it was not a great experience. This time, on the advice of my date, I ordered the spider roll, her thought process being that I may find the cooked sushi more agreeable. I’m happy to say she was right! If you are new to sushi or Japanese cuisine, perhaps that may be a helpful piece of advice. For an entrée, I ordered the Mongolian beef with miso soup, and my date ordered the orange chicken with sweet and sour soup. The miso soup was very good. The broth was really salty, which me and my date both enjoy. The sweet and sour soup was tasty, but a little too spicy for me(I’m kind of a baby with spicy foods). The Mongolian beef was excellent, very tender, and really tasty. The orange chicken was quite good as well(probably my favorite Asian dish so far). It was not spicy at all, but was very flavorful. At this point, my opinion on Asian eateries may not be worth much, but if I were you, I’d give Yume a shot. Especially if, like me, you’re new to Japanese. Ps, for this only being my third time eating Asian cuisine(Korean, Japanese, Japanese), I have to say I crushed it with the chopsticks. Literally didn’t drop one piece of food. Begin slow clap now…

It’s hard to be the new kid at school, especially when the popular kid’s been around for decades. Ok, maybe not the greatest analogy, but Yume has some tough obstacles to face. It’s in an odd location, it took over the spot of another restaurant(so people may not know that it’s new), and people just have a fondness for Yu’s Mandarin up the street. But Yume is definitely worth the visit and you may find you have a new favorite Chinese(and Japanese) spot in Schaumburg. We came here on a Sunday for lunch, and were pleasantly surprised to see they have lunch specials even on the weekend. I went with the Yume Beef Tenderloin. I got a soup, spring roll, rice, a ton of beef and veggies, all for under $ 10. The YBT is a must-try — crispy peppery beef full of spicy aroma. Just the right amount of sweetness and stickiness, it’s not like anything I’ve had anywhere else. The fiancé went with their sashimi lunch special. I tried some of her tuna and found it firm and fresh, and she said she really enjoyed it. We also sampled the Firecracker roll, and it was a great bite for something that could have been too gimmicky. The service was great and overall the value almost has me wishing I’d move out to the burbs(almost). Heck, we even caught my grandma sneaking a bite of her broccoli — she usually hates veggies to the extent of picking onions out of her noodles, so it’s quite the testament to this place. Excited to come back for dinner and try their surf and turf combo, which is basically the YBT but with shrimp.

I love walking into a restaurant and being greeted like they are truly glad we are there. That’s how I felt when we walked into Yume. The owner, Ken, and our favorite bartender, Jeff, made us feel so welcomed from the moment we stepped inside. Ken was formerly at TL’s in Bartlett, so we’ve known him as a top notch server for quite a while. And we live in Bartlett, so the fact that we happily drove to Schaumburg and plan to do so again will tell you something about our visit. I couldn’t help it. I compared everything to TL’s mainly because the similarities were striking. The service… we had excellent service at Yume. My glass was never more than half empty. Plates were cleared quickly when it was obvious we were ready for them to do so. Food was served promptly and did not sit waiting to die again before we ate it. The menu… the options were plentiful and yes there were some very similar dishes. So I ordered them to compare. The szechuan dumplings were tastier here as was the Mongolian beef and the philly roll. Let’s talk about that philly roll for a second. The ratios in this roll were spot on! So much so that my husband mentioned it at least twice. It’s nice to order a roll that isn’t overwhelmingly cream cheesy. The space… I found it to be clean which is high on the list for me. We chuckled at the crystal chandeliers as they are overkill, but the bar and the sushi bar look great and it is obvious a lot of care went into doing things right. The only thing that I didn’t flip head over heels for would be the lobster mango roll. Honestly, I think it’s me. I don’t order lobster basically ever and when Ken suggested I try the roll and it looked so beautiful, I was all in. I liked the sauce and the mangoes, but the lobster wasn’t my favorite. I think it was a little too salty for my palate. Take a trip over to Yume. It’s easy to find with plenty of parking in the lot. We didn’t have to wait which was a major plus for us and the service was just as it should be — excellent! Can’t wait to try more things on the menu!

This Newly opened restaurant has delicious Sushi & Entrée dishes. Stop in for lunch, or dinner to experience Japanese and Chinese Cuisine. Owner, Ken will insure the freshest quality of food. You’ll give it 5 stars also.

Exactly at 3 stars for me. The décor is definitely nicer than the previous tenants and the service is very friendly but the higher prices(although portion size is pretty good) and the uninspired cooking prevent it from scoring any higher for me. Food overall is pretty bland, devoid of texture and seasoning for the most part(not often you can order a szechuan style dish and eat the whole thing without sweating even a drop). The food itself is not actually bad, presented nicely and with good colors — nothing is really overcooked or unpleasant. But, I’m confused since it’s not very Americanized(fried, tons of sauce, very flavorful) but the flavors aren’t very traditional either. It doesn’t even sit in the fusion category of restaurants like Sun Shui or Pei Wei — just food that doesn’t excel at either and becomes very unmemorable. Here were my thoughts on specific items: Egg drop soup — Pretty watery, not a super strong egg flavor and consistency needs to be thicker. Hot and sour soup — Lacks depth of flavor, was a bit spicy and had a good kick of pepper. Spring roll — Filled with tons of cabbage, crispy skin but almost tasteless filling. Vegetable fried rice — Had a decent amount of wok-hay for rice only stirred with vegetables, didn’t have excessive amounts of soy sauce. Crispy garlic shrimp — Not really super tasty for shrimp surrounded with tons of chilis, pepper, and onion, but enjoyable overall. Probably the best dish I tried. Steamed halibut — Good sized filet, a bit soft on the meat texture and almost no flavor from the ginger and scallions. Depended too much on the soy sauce for flavor but a great deal for the low 7.75 lunch price. Cumin lamb — Meat was tender, but could’ve rendered out a bit more fat. Despite being surrounded by tons of peppers, scallions, and onions — the dish wasn’t that flavorful and the cumin and chili oil weren’t that noticeable. Overall, this restaurant was alright — food wasn’t very exciting but it wasn’t bad either.

One, this review is only for the sushi. Two, I’m wavering between a 3 and a 4 here and I just can’t decide so they’re getting a 4 because for some reason I’m feeling generous today. Don’t get too excited. It won’t last. Anyway, we stopped in on a Saturday right as they opened(11:30ish) and we were one of 4 or 5 tables sat. That’s got to be a good sign, yes? I must say, the hostess and waitstaff were really nice and accommodating of our tiny human which isn’t typical at a sushi joint. And speaking of waitstaff? There was also at least 4 people helping tables, bartending, seating, etc. which is also not typical for a sushi place either… I swear there’s always one lone server in the weeds the entire visit at most Japanese places. As for the food, it was pretty decent and it was suuuuuuuuuper cheap. We got a three roll lunch special each, an order of gyoza, and soup(which I’m pretty sure came with the lunch special) for $ 38. Granted, it wasn’t fancy rolls but rather had regular old maki, but still. I got three spicy rolls: tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. The rolls are kind of small and the rice is hard(ish) BUT they were fresh, weren’t complete mush and mayo(they at least had a little bit of chunks), and tasted spicy(ish). Since I’m a complete sushi snob I wish that they were chunkier and spicier but they were certainly good. I would say that for the Schaumburg area they are on par with Minami and Sake, WAY better than Sushi Yama, and slightly less delicious than Daruma.

Recently I have been frequenting Tensuke & Mitsuwa for Japanese cuisine, but, they are a bit further away. Zume is just a couple blocks from my home and offers a great selection of food. I was reluctant at first to go here because I remember the last 2 restaurants that were in this spot weren’t that great(Chinese Garden & Aloha — both had same owners). This place has a new owner and is much nicer! The interior has been redone and has a quaint relaxed feel. I had tempura appetizer(2 shrimp &5 veggies), egg rolls, & miso soup on my first visit; all were very good! The staff was very kind and fast to refill drinks and check if I needed anything else. All in all, great first visit! On my 2nd visit here I had miso soup & tempura appetizer again(they were great the first time, so I had to get them again! They were again great!), and orange chicken. The orange chicken was a huge serving and was very tasty! I admit I haven’t really had orange chicken at a good restaurant, more just from the ‘fast food’ type Chinese places. So compared to those, this orange chicken was simply amazing! One nice thing about this restaurant is it basically has 2 menus: one for Japanese and one for Chinese. The menu is split down the middle; half for Japanese & half for Chinese. It’s very easy to navigate the menu and the choices are extensive. On my 3rd visit I decided to try some sushi. I started with an appetizer of tempura calamari(First time having tempura calamari and I think I like it more than the standard fried calamari at non Asian restaurants), then had a toro tuna nigiri, & salmon maki. The sushi tasted great and super fresh! Prices are reasonable as well. I would recommend anyone who lives in the area to give it a try! ***Update. I have now been here many more times. The food and service are always great! I have tried a variety of their sushi & cooked dishes and have always been pleased with how fresh and tasty their food is!
