Pin Up’s Blow Bar

Was very happy to find Pin Up’s last Saturday when I was in from out of town and in a pinch. I called the salon around 9:30am asking for a same day appointment and they were able to fit me in. I really appreciated that the person taking my call took the time to ask about my hair length and thickness, and exactly what I was looking to have done so that the timing could be planned accordingly.
When I showed up and saw the place, it looked really cute and very clean. I wish I had known about it before! They took me promptly and started washing my hair, then went to work on blowing it out straight. The stylist used some product (including the blue label bottle Moroccan oil that smells so good!), but not so much that it felt heavy or greasy — and it actually lasted me through Wednesday (very thick hair and some good dry shampoo along the way)! The stylist and receptionist were very nice and offered me beverages when I arrived and during the styling. Also loved that tip can be added to a credit card — not terribly common here in Boston. Will definitely be back when in the area and will recommend to others looking for a blowout.

I have had my hair blown out several times and was extremely disappointed when I came here. The people were very friendly, except I have very thick hair and informed them I wanted no volume in my blow out with a slight bend at the ends. What I left with was a ton of volume that just looked extremely awkward on my thick hair and was not very flattering. The style of the blowout itself was not bad. It was just not what I asked for and did not suit my hair type.

I’ve had my hair blown out often in the last three years and in my experience any competent stylist can do a decent blow-​out; the good ones can make you look fantastic. The person I saw here was nice (which is why its two stars, not one) but she didn’t, I’m guessing couldn’t, do anything I asked for: no volume, no lift, no waves. It didn’t look terrible, but it was no better than what I could do myself. The place also does make-​up and maybe she’s good at that, she looked good. But she needs to learn basic blow-​out skills.

Good ambience and quick availability. I asked for a blow dry and set for volume and got a fully dried head without any rollers– she put them in after my hair was already bone dry. Not the time to add volume. Disappointing. My mom and sister however were happy so ²⁄₃ happy clients here.
