i cant believe how highly rated this place is!!! I got the Italian sub with prosciutto and salami and it is super dry! I dont mind that There are no veggies just meat cheese and mayo mustard and bread but it was so dry and old tasting I couldn’t even finish half of it. The salami felt like more cheap bologna then dry salami from an Italian deli. The prosciutto however was delicious and tasty. Even though it’s in my neighborhood I would rather go to Molinari in north beach for better quality. Plus they give u a card if u buy ten sandwiches, you get one free.

Good enough for the neighborhood and saves me a trip to north beach to pick up some molinari’s salami and imported prosciutto.

Pretty good for the area! Not great, but not bad! Came here one day when I was wanting a sammie(you can see in my reviews, I’ve been on a sammie kick lately…). I used to work in Northbeach, so I was intrigued at this concept of an Italian Deli in Excelsior. Run by Chinese people. Ha. Gotta love it. Ordered the Italian Veggie one. I had a ton of meat the night before and felt I needed to cleanse myself. It really wasn’t bad. They had the marinated mushrooms in there, in lieu of meat, and gave me the meaty texture. Marinated Artichokes and bell peppers rounded the sandwich out. It was overall pretty good, but also because of all the marinated stuff, kinda sour. Or vinegar-y. But they prepped everything before. The mushrooms, they sliced in half and none of it fell out of my sandwich while I was eating! Someone has some good sandwich packing skills… The place is surprising to find — it doesn’t really stand out on Mission, and we passed it before we realized where it was. Huh. Overall, decent experience. I wish they made it hot though… a hot sandwich is much yummier.

Nice place. They don’t skimp on the meat, and nothing was presliced… You need to ask for lettuce and tomatoes, though…

I had been excited to visit this place since moving into the neighborhood two years ago, but each time I walked by, it was closed. The first thing about Sorrento that sucks is the fact that they close at 5pm on weeknights, and are completely closed on Sundays. That makes it difficult for a working-class person like myself who has a M-F nine-to-five sort of job to patronize the place. So, that is why it took so long to finally check it out. Upon doing so last month, I discovered a few other things that make this place suck. I ordered a sandwich and asked that no mushrooms be put on it. Well, I got mushrooms, and I’m no authority on mushrooms, but they sure looked like they’d been just plucked right out of a can and thrown on. It was a very soggy and sloppily put together sandwich. Overall, not very appetizing, nor particularly tasty. I was made to feel as though the staff was in a big hurry to get me out of there. The person who made my sandwich began to ring up my order while another employee was in the middle of helping a different customer, and started to put that other customer’s items on my bill. Confusion ensued for the employees, but between the two of us customers, we were able to tell them which items were ours. I think I ended up getting charged correctly, but I wasn’t very sure of that when I walked out of the place. They do have what appeared to be some nice grocery selections of imported items, and I was extremely thrilled to find that they carried dried lupini beans, which I have found to be rather difficult to find in retail locations. So I bought some, excited to prepare them at home. When I opened the bag and sorted the beans, however, they had an odd and very strong smell of … dirt. And more than a few of the beans were shriveled and molded looking. I had to throw several of them out, but I continued the long process of brining them. In the end, no amount of garlic could mask the taste of wet potting soil that the beans had. Not that I’ve ever eaten wet potting soil, but if I did, I imagine it would taste just like the poor-quality lupini beans that I was unfortunate enough to have purchased at Sorrento Delicatessen.

The best Italian sandwiches around! The meat and cheese are sliceed one sandwich at a time. They have four to five different breads. The price is really not bad at all. If you’re in the neighborhood you should stop in. There is no seating so it has to be to go! I don’t think anyone can top this place.

Kinda sucks theres new owners, I’d go there time to time growing up. But the good news is, the new owners are nice and provide good service. Although they’ve eliminated some of the good ‘ol Italian stuff that if you been going for years you’d notice, if not, don’t really matter. But great sandwiches though, good variety of meats and cheeses, I’m a personal fan of the fresh roast beef, prosciutto, and ooooh the fresh mozzarella! Check it out though, the least you’ll get is a sandwich right?

I’m giving five stars for the service I received from the new owners/employees. First of all I arrived with a gift certificate that I won in a raffle from a non profit organization. This means that the old owners were civic minded enough to donate, and also that the new owners were charitable enough to accept the cert. My order was a big one, consisting of eight different sandwiches. They were very patient with me since I wasn’t ordering their«standard» sandwiches off the menu. All the sandwiches were made to order perfectly. While I was there I could see how popular this place was. I think your best bet is to order a sandwich from their menu board. I ordered the«Tuscan» and it was made with a generous amount of prosciuto. Also has tasty pesto sauce, so I really liked it and people could smell how good it was from a distance. I will return for more, and it’s a good value too.

New managment. No imported provolone makes Johnny sad. Gave me American cheese instead of sharp cheddar as well. I hope they improve soon, ‘cuase I love having a real deli nearby. The service was good, but no one was speaking Italian anymore, which also makes me a little sad.

Classic Italian deli. Great sandwiches and a great place to buy olive oil, salami, cheeses, and other Italian staples. Don’t make the mistake of asking for lettuce, tomato, or onions on your sandwich or they will look at you like you are nuts.

Sorrento is no more. New owners took over last week and it’s just not the same. The neighborhood has changed and all the old Italian customers have moved on. I’ll really miss them. I guess I took them for granted. They’ve been there for many years.

«Friendly Change of Ownership» There is a change of ownership and the people are friendly, but a little rough around the edges which comes with any new ownership. I ordered some sliced meat and the plastic wrapping was cut in with the meats(I think the wrapping on the hock of ham wasn’t pulled back enough), so I had to pick it out carefully. All in all, still a great place.

Oh, Sorrento’s! You remind me of the Pennsylvania Macaroni Company and those Strip District days of getting fresh meat and cheese and eating it on rolls at La Prima. Cue massive waves of nostalgia. Delicious sandwiches. Reasonable prices. I like the pesto. If I lived closer, I’d get my everyday lunch fixins here. Alas, I guess I will just have to settle for sandwiches before/after MBCC events. Not complaining.

Just a minute I need a moment to myself. Okay. I have heard about it, but this was my first time. I walked into this great atmosphere, nice set-up and friendly folks and my eyes immediately were drawn to the chalk written menu and the«Raging Bull» sandwich. What is a «Raging Bull» you ask? Oh only a delectable pile of roast beef, blue cheese, peppers, mustard and mayo. Like a fine automobile or no-hitter in baseball, brilliant simplicity. No. .. I dare say art for the taste buds. And then I sat down to test out this new culinary relationship. Bite #1 — OMG, I am in serious«like» here. Bite #2 — Okay, don’t move too fast here, but I think«love» is in the air. Bite #3 — I’m moving to Sorrento’s to start my secret second family. Good golly it was good and I suppose I can share ;-)

Oh how Sorrento’s holds a sweet spot in my childhood. For as long as I can remember my family has always gotten its cold cuts and cheeses from Sorrento’s. I still water at the mouth thinking of that salty prosciutto wrapped around melon. And if you want a simple sandwich that makes you blush, get yourself a roast pork sandwich on a roll, mayo and mustard, and american cheese… You may almost pee your pants its so good!

If you’re around the neighborhood, this is the spot to go if you want a cold cut, fresh sandwich. I love them here, especially that they’re open early in the morning, well 8am. I only like chicken and turkey so I usually get the roasted chicken on dutch with mayo only. Yeah boring, but it’s the best plain, boring sandwich. I don’t even care for mayo unless I get my sandwich here. There’s all kinds of Italian products here from cheese, pastas, meats, fresh focaccia – you name it. Good luck finding parking though, and yes the meter maids are hiding in the cuts around the area so make sure you don’t get caught double parking unless you’re ready to spend $ 60 extra. p. s., 1) They take special orders for the holidays, 2)they’re not open on Mondays

If I happen to be in the City, I’ll drop by Sorrento Delicatessen. Sliced meats to order. I prefer paper thin slices of salami, roast beef and the hams — and the guys behind the counter will slice it to perfection. I prefer to create my own sandwiches, so I can’t comment on them. Try the Columbus salami extra thin.

Can’t vouch from them now but you used to be able to get a hard roll(and boy was that roll hard!) salami sandwich for something like $ 2. The thing was huge. We would share one because they were so huge. I’ve never been a sandwich lover but I rarely turned down a Sorrentos.
