Love this place! Pupusas on point. Open late. Good prices. If I’m looking for a place to go with friends, no one argues with this spot and everyone leaves happy. I eat here at least once a week!

Had the Obama mixed pupusas with beans, cheese, and pork. They were pretty satisfying and since then I have returned twice and tried the fried shrimp(don’t recommend this) and the salvadoran bistec which was pretty good too. I will stick to the pupusas though. The agua de horchata was good and their beer prices are super good. However, their service is not so great. We had to go to the register each time we needed something.

This is a really warm, cozy, family-owned Salvadorian restaurant located in the outer Mission. I came here with my girlfriend around a month and half ago after spending the day in the area doing different tasks. I had a grilled fish with rice and a side salad and my girlfriend had 2 pupusas and a side of pan-fried plantains. There were several pupusas in the menu and to be honest I can’t recall which ones she had but I did try them and they were pretty good. Pupusas are in some way similar to tacos, some type of food hispanics like and I can’t figure out why/how. I do not really know much about them because this meal never got my attention and I really do not think I would order it in the future, but the ones we had were good. My fish was very good as well, it was crispy and lightly salted, I added some lemon juice on top and it was prefect. It was a good lunch, I did not expect much due to the location, the way the restaurant looked and the fact that I had never heard about this place although I used to live a few blocks away from it.

Worst rice pupusas in the world I can say. There’s better places and better prices in SF. I hope they work on the pupusas no me gusta Pura masa.

Just left. & let me start off by saying I would rate this place a 3.5÷5. The food is great, but the service… Not so much. Our waitress did not provide my party with a spoon for the salsa, and did not bring us more chips when we asked for them. In addition, she did not come over to our table ONCE to ask us how everything was going. Also, don’t order the Horchata. Unless you like the peanut taste. This would have been a much more enjoyable experience if it wasn’t for the bad service. Such a shame.

We ate here today for a lunch break and it was delicious! We ordered the spinach and cheese, avocado and cheese and jalapeño and cheese pupusas as well as a chicken plate(I’m going to return for the avocado pupusas and try their pork ones). The order took a little longer than I’d like to process, but hey it’s made to order. And the wait was worth it because the food was exceptional. We got a free refill of chips and red salsa as well as the pickled veggies for the pupupas(spicy good!). Simple concept, simple restaurant set up(narrow and a little crammed), no flare with the dining utensils and tableware and this is what makes it work for a community that’s on-the-go and just need a good place to eat that’s family friendly and listen to the blaring TV(El Chapo was found today, I learned). Fun fact, Pupuseria Metapan is one of the restaurants open until dinner here in Excelsior. I’m a local and will be back!

Not too bad of a pupusas eatery in the Excelsior. They’re very attentive & the prices are cheaper than my Maternal Bernal hood. This plac sisal so spacious for a pupusas place & the cleanliness is superb. Also they get me when I say I want water with lime but not really cold. As with many eateries like this, Spanish is a plus. It’s a good place to hangout during lunch due to the calm environment.

This place is so YUM… Be forewarned– if you are ordering a lot of papusas(like me at 25!) it’s a 45 minute wait. Worth every moment because they are made to order. Revuelta is my personal favorite and their cortido is the BOMB.

My girlfriend is Salvadorian and this is our favorite restaurant. Their casamiento is the best I’ve had. Tamales, pastelitos, and pupusas are all above average. I can’t stay away!

One of the best authentic papusaeria in SF. My favorite, jalapeño and cheese papusa. The tamarindo was delicious and the service was great.

Wavering somewhere between 3 and 4 stars… decided to round up. I suppose it is best to stick with the pupusas. It is a pupuseria, after all, and they have quite a few delectable sounding options for you. I had a few bites of the avocado pupusa and it was delicious. The tortillas that accompanied our other dishes were equally good. The huevos rancheros, on the other hand, were disappointing. The flavor was okay, and the eggs cooked perfectly. However, the beans, sour cream and tomato sauce all had the same runny texture… and the yolks just blended right in… resulting in what seemed more like a huevos rancheros soup. The other good stuff? Service was great and the prices are more than reasonable.

Transformative. President: Pupusa: Made with blue corn the Obama had a mild and healthier taste compared with most pupusas. Gave me a new way of thinking about a traditional dish. Asking for and getting egg whites in my omelette might inspire a new way to think about breakfast too. Comes with excellent thick tortillas plus refried beans and rice. Unfortunately there was a noticeable lack of shrimp in the omelette and chicken in the pupusa but plenty of unexpected cheese. Wish this had been reversed. Pair was split and came to a reasonable $ 16 with tax and tip. Also split is the restroom where one side has a urinal with a men’s sign and the other a toilet with a women’s sign. Pretty sure it’s only one at a time. Staff is friendly and the casual ambiance includes prominent Latin music as well as fútbol on television. Would recommend but not reelect.

Our regular pupuseria was closed. So we decided to Unilocal, and we decided on this place. We ordered Platanos con frijoles & crema– Frijoles were amazing! Just like in El Salvador and that’s what I was looking for. Mom’s order was Yucca Frita– She loved it, just that the chicharron should be bigger pieces but she was satisfied. Pupusa’s– were not so good, I was definitely disappointed. I only ate half, maybe it was just my taste buds or it was the cook but I will definitely not come here for pupusa’s.

Stopped into this place since it’s by our new apartment. I have come back a few times since because it is just so, so good. The rice and beans alone is worth going in for. Trust me: they are phenomenally flavorful. I like to get the jalapeño pupusa obama. The avocado and chicken pupusas are also good. My husband got the carne asada the last time we were there and it was some of my favorite I have ever had — just the right amount tender with plenty of flavor from both the meat and the seasonings.

Just left, nothing was even decent, the Pupusas were reheated and I know this because the waiter touched them and took them back to reheat, the chicken soup was all Knorr salt, didn’t eat it, only thing good was the rice, yea the rice. I had also ordered an order of empanadas de leche. They were burnt, dry and tasted old, I don’t know if they changed cooks but I’m only giving them two stars becuz they used to be good, not consistent I guess. Reinas for chicken soup, Planes de Rendero around the corner for Pupusas, trust me on this. I will stick to this from now on!

HORRIBLESERVICE. I called them from Unilocal at about 2 am. They asked if I speak Spanish and I said no so they hung up. Thinking it was an accident I called again, and some woman picked up asking the same question. I said no and that I wanted to order for pick up. She said we close at 3. I asked if I can order now then but she said no were closed and hung up. While it says on Unilocal they were still open. I called one more time and a guy yelled at me and hung up. HORRIBLESERVICE. I have never in my life been treated so badly by anyone in the restaurant industry.

My boyfriend and I ordered atol de elote to start off with. I had an image of what atole was in my head because I have had Mexican variations, but when this one came out I was surprised! I was expecting something brown, warm, and in a cup(which is probably chocolate atole). This wasn’t SO different, but it was yellow, hot, and in a bowl. Let me tell you, it was exceptional. It tasted like a sweet, creamy, corn soup/drink hybrid. I think I would have preferred it for dessert, but before the pupusas was cool too. We also ordered horchata! Again, I had a pre-conceived idea of how horchata tastes because I have had plenty of the Mexican sort. This was a lot different. I don’t know how to describe the taste, but it was rich and maybe a bit more rice-tasting. I didn’t like it at first, but it grew on me as I drank more of it. They start you off with chips and salsa. I wasn’t impressed with the chips(they were just your standard round chips that you can buy at the grocery store); but the salsa was great! A watery salsa with a little kick. I would have preferred more kick, maybe a power kick, but the flavor was good. We ordered 4 pupusas, 1 bean and cheese, 1 spinach and cheese, 1 chicken, and 1 loroco. We also made two of those«Obama» style, which just means they use blue corn masa instead of the regular corn masa. All were really good and extremely filling. I thought there was a little too much cheese in my bean and cheese ones, but the flavor was great. My boyfriend said the chicharron one was his favorite — I can’t confirm this because I don’t eat pork! So I didn’t try it. The chicken one didn’t have much chicken, so that was kind of sad. Despite that, I had a good overall impression of the food. Cons: I speak Spanish so it was easy for me to navigate this place, but I don’t know if the waitress/waiter spoke English. It’s not a big deal, but I think it would be helpful for people(like my boyfriend) who don’t speak any Spanish. Also, the service was relatively slow… there were 3 tables occupied and 2 people available to wait on customers, so I don’t know what was going on. Our visit here was longer than it should have been. Minus one star. I would come back — I keep reading reviews about the chicken soup and I think it’s something I need to try.

The food is yummy but the service isn’t really friendly & staff does not speak english so you can’t ask any questions unless you speak spanish. Complimentary salsa and chips. Loved the salsa, the beans & rice were so good, I joked they had crack in em. Pollo papusas were just right and very filling(my bf and I split a 2 papusas w frojoles &arroz entre which also comes with a side marinated cabbage salad). The papusas took about 15 minutes to come out so either service was a bit slow or they were really fresh! The ambiance is so-s0, a bright long room with few decorations on the walls. As noted, the register says«cash only» but the menus have all major credit cards listed… not sure what that means since I had case. Also, the loud spanish TV kinda annoying so don’t expect to be able to go here for conversation. I think i’ll do takeout next time!
