This place is CLOSED. A new restaurant has replaced it, and is opening tomorrow Wednesday, October 8th. The name of the new place is «Good Pizza», and guess what, Jennifer Cox(former chef of Citizen Cake) will be designing their menu. Wow! I can’t wait to see what they come up with. ************************************ The pizza quality at Soma Pizza matched the area where it’s located. That should be enough description. «New York-style» is a term that has been overused too much by pizzerias.

They’re still renovating this place. But they’ve come up with their new name: GoodPizza. In response to the new designation, here are some thoughts: One can only hope it will be or Oh, I’ve heard that before or Is that a promise? or Can I sue for false advertising? or Really? or Seriously? or Says who? or Good but not Great or Well, it couldn’t get any worse. In all fairness, I still might try it out when it opens. Good Deal?

I didn’t care much for the pizza here… in fact, the pizza was kinda gross and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. Wouldn’t go back to this place while visiting the city again, even if it is convenient and I am staying at one of the hotels right down the street again.

Mediocrity thy name is SoMa Pizza… I walk by this corner eatery every day. Every day, mind you. I take a glance once in a while to see if anybody is eating except the clueless European tourists staying at the Britton next door or that Best Western faux-Moroccan pink monstrosity across the street. Nope, the NATO meetings are still in session there. It doesn’t exactly feel like a paisano’s pizzeria. It feels like a downscale Disneyland version of a pizza parlor with lots of papier-mâché versions of San Francisco landmarks thrown up on the ceiling. The décor doesn’t shout homey to me… more like«The Pirates of the Caribbean ride is just past Country Bear Jamboree, ma’am» kind of feeling. And of course, you also have the screaming, shopping cart-pushing vagrants to provide window-side entertainment since Mickey Mouse isn’t available. The pizza is decent — not an atrocious pool of grease but not a culinary reinvention to tantalize the senses either. I usually throw caution to the wind and order the SoMa Daily Special for $ 3 a slice… unless it’s one of those ham & pineapple concoctions. When will people learn not to mix fruit and meat on a pizza? They offer the usual suspects when it comes to the full pies but the names have been SoMa-sized to protect the innocent. They offer a 14″ New York-style thin crust in the $ 15.50-$ 16.50 range, a 16″ costs $ 3 more and a full-fledged Sicilian is a dollar more than the 16″. Salads come pre-packed in those plastic containers that pop open when you breathe on them. So yes, I do partake of the pizza, but it isn’t the type of place that warrants a drive across town or even a walk down the block. But if you have the craving under the shadow of the foreboding new Federal building, by all means try it… all you need is an «E» ticket. PIZZA — 3 stars… comme ci, comme ca AMBIANCE — 2.5 stars… it’s a small world after all… it’s a small world after all… it’s a small world after all… it’s a small world after all SERVICE — 3 stars… does wonders with that pizza paddle board TOTAL — 3 stars… gives new meaning to the term«meh»

Three strands of curly black hair embedded in the dough of ONE Sicilian pizza slice I ordered… need I say more? If I could give the place negative stars, I would. That was my first and last slice of pizza from this place.

for some reason i really like soma pizza. maybe its the new york style thing. since cali style is kinda bland in comparison. consistent quality and nice peeps behind the counter. get the continental, yum. and look up – the ceiling is pretty cool.

I like this New York-style pizza, but recommend that you get toppings, because, for some bizarre reason, the plain cheese slices weren’t as yummy as they should have been. They use a great, sweet sauce and good ingredients in their toppings.

The location is convenient for me, and they have free Wi-Fi Internet, but the pizza is just ok, nothing great. Kind of expensive I think. For a slice of pizza and a coke you can almost get one dish at the 7 Mission Street restaurant next door.

Pretty good pizza place right on the corner of 7th and Mission, I must say the inside of the place is pretty cool looking with how they did the ceiling. I normally go with the Continental which is Tomatoes, Mozzarella, basil pesto sauce and ricotta cheese. Pizza is a bit on the greasey side, yes I know Pizza is greasey but this pizza seems an extra bit so, no where near Pizza Hut levels though. I would really prefer to give a 3.5 stars, but since that is not an option I will bump it up to 4 because I think the get the benefit of the doubt.

Decent pizza, they sell by the slice. Nothing too special, except that it’s conveniently located and seem to have late hours

Soma pizza is a thoroughly solid pizza experience. I had a slice of the sausage and mushroom pizza, which for $ 3.00, was unexceptional in size, but otherwise rather tasty. Overall, the quality was good, even in its reheated glory. The pizza was covered pretty densely with toppings and cheese, which were of pretty good quality. Not overly greasy, and the proportions were just about right. The crust was chewy but not tough. Overall, not a bad place if you happen to be in the area.
