I’ve sent an email after business hours to Robert R. Johnson yesterday, and within about half an hour I got a call back from Constantin to schedule an appointment to meet next day. When I arrived today, Constantin first accessed my needs on the 6 qty. Morgan silver dollars I told him I was interested in purchasing. Instead of selling the more expensive Morgan silver dollars to me, Constantin based my purchase on just what I need. He even went out of his way to clean them for me because I didn’t want any black marks on them. I am very happy that not only did he not try to up sell me, but also he was pleasant in providing me with quick and excellent service that I didn’t expect. I am not an experienced coin buyer, so I had some fear going into a coin shop. Yet, Constantin educated me, and he did not try taking advantage of me. He got exactly what I need and he was very straightforward. I am very lucky and happy to have met Constantin! I will definitely go back to Constantin if I need to buy more coins.

I’ve sold gold coins and jewelry here over the years and each time I’ve gotten the best prices. Konstantin is fair, easy, and extremely knowledgeable about coins– these elements combined together create an extremely convenient transaction enviroment that is unbeatable. A+ !

Mr. Johnson was a very nice guy. Me and my buddy were disappointed we could not tour the mint, so figured, lets buy coins… We went on Unilocal and found this to be the nearest coin shop. He was kind enough to sell us a couple Silver Eagles.

Sold some gold jewelry to these folks a few years ago and have bought some gold coins from them here and there over the last two years. Good customer service – efficient and no-nonsense. Given my online research, their markups are very reasonable, and I trust them with my business. Only issue is that sometimes it’s hard to get a hold of them; their hours are not clear sometimes and sometimes I wasn’t sure if I was calling at the right time.

This gentleman is really nice and accurate on coins and stamps. Hes a very good dealer and tells you detailed history about you coins. Very Professional and Courteous. The building also is very nice. I will continue business with him. Also remember before you go to any coin shop, research your Coins.

Spoke to a gentleman on the phone about BUYING some gold coins and he was very arrogant. He had a HUGE attitude … kind of like he was doing me a favor. I called him out on it and his response was, «well, we’ve been in business for 60 years». That attitude may have worked 60 years ago … it will not work for the next 60.

I bought a roll of gold Maple Leaf coins from RR Johnson, and dealt with the current President of the company, Konstantin(Robert Johnson died in 2010). I had called around to several coin dealers before making my purchase to ensure I was getting the best price. RR Johnson was willing to sell to me at less than a 3% premium to spot(at that time approx $ 40 per 1-oz coin. This was a better asking spread than any other dealer I could find, and I had called all of the major players locally and nationally. You will want to make a bunch of calls before you deal as well. I was very pleased with the pricing although I felt the mark up was slightly higher than what they had quoted me on the phone. Since the price of precious metals fluctuates(sometimes dramatically) real time I accepted the variance as dumb luck. Be sure to take accurate notes when you call in to request pricing and then bring thee notes with you when you go to pay for and collect the coins or bullion. Nobody will lock in a price for you until you put up the dough, however, so once you find a dealer you like and trust you may want to open an account. The transaction was overall straightforward, but it did take quite a bit of time to complete — I think it was over an hour. Having dealt with several dealers over the years I can tell you that this is the norm. I think it has something to do with them parting with hard assets in exchange for fiat currency and their fear of being defrauded somehow. Overall I found RR Johnson to be honest, trustworthy, and fair, especially compared to some other dealers, and would recommend them if you are investing in bullion.

I brought in a rather large stamp collection, and Ron gave me a fair price to purchase the entire lot. He was very knowledgeable about his business, and explained in detail why the stamps were worth what they were. Overall, it was a very pleasant transaction, and I would recommend them if you’re in the market to liquidate.

Went in with an old stamp collection which I had no idea if it was of any value. I had no problem getting an appointment quickly to bring the stamps in just to see if it was even worth getting appraised. Turns out the collection, though large, was not really worth enough and I appreciated not being taken for an appraisal fee since the stamps would just bring a nominal amount. I feel I was treated extremely fair and professionally.

I don’t know where those 2 positive reviews came from, but I am suspecting that they wrote those reviews themselves. I had a gold coin I knew for a fact was worth 600. I called them up and they said ya, come on in, those are worth 600. When I got there they fed me some bullshit line that it used to be jewelery, and therefore was worth 535 dollars. I left and sold it to a place down near san mateo called el camino something or other for the base gold bullion price of 598.25. This guy is a crook.

Thanks Unilocal for turning me on to a fantastic, professional company. I was nervous on who to trust on selling an item and was very impressed with the service and fair price I got from this outfit.

Again, thank goodness for Unilocal! When faced with the task of selling some gold coins, I had no idea how to sell them and I was reluctant to send the precious little things off to some place listed on the internet, nor did I relish the thought of some sleazy pawn shop in the Mission. Enter Robert R. Johnson. Professional, courteous, and efficient from the moment I called to make an appointment and all the way through the conclusion of our transaction. Not even remotely sketchy. And as Vivien C. said, the selling prices offered matched my own research as well. They also sell and purchase collector’s stamps. Highly recommended.

Inherit some really heavy coins you can barely carry? Take them to Mr. Johnson and he’ll give you a fair price for them. The office is in a nice old building on Market, in case you’ve always wondered what was going on in the floors above CompUSA. The service is courteous and professional. With 58 years collecting coins I figure he knows what he is talking about, and the prices he gave me matched my own research. He also informed me that the removal of precious metals from our currency represents the beginning of the end of our civilization, who knew!
